You know a lot of people are in the windsurfing industry now, and in the past. But I can honestly say that you have done more good for the sport than any other - in my tiny opinion. Thanks for all the great videos over the years. And more so these tutorials/skill improvement motivation type stuff. I can't wait to go and try these.
100% agree with you. I was lucky to meet and talk to Ben during PWA event in Denmark some years back. He is super cool guy. In this channel I dont have any feeling that my skills doesnt belong here. I am still probably worse than majority of riders in video. But everything I see is achievable if I will just have more windy days.
I've searched the web all spring to see if it's possible to do a really flat and low back-loop on the tiny waves I have at hand in northen Sweden. And then this video appears. Thanks! Just fresh off the meny.
Excellent explanation! Not like most mega backloop how-to vids shot at Pozo or Klitmuller that look terrifying to try. May even work on bump ‘n jump of a steep chop. It’s windy today...gonna give it a go. Thanks Ben!
Good tips Ben. This is what I've found has helped for me.... I've more or less got the technique on port tack but never had it good on starboard (which is why I started doing pushies). But something I discovered this year is that going for one handed smallish backies can actually be way easier than normal ones. For some reason using the harness gives you a way more consistent rotation. I heard freestylers saying one handed flakas are easier, so its probably a similar reason. Cheers!
Very interesting. Back in the early 90’s I landed a lot of back loops, large and small, but never like in this video. I was mostly on chop in the Gorge which might be great for these. For my low ones, I carved into the wind, at the apex the board was effectively vertical at which point I would look hard over my shoulder, twisting my shoulders to follow my head and dragging the board around with the boom. Most of the time the board would land fairly flat and just a hair past dead downwind and I would have to aggressively sheet out to get the clew past the eye of the wind. Now that I’m re-addicted to windsurfing, partially thanks to this channel, I’m going to have to try this style… when it warms up. And many thanks Ben for your part in getting my life “back on track” and for all the helpful tips as I try to get dialed back in. :-)
Thanks Ben, been trying for a few years now and second session after watching your clip I landed my first! Turns out my bad tack for forwards is actually my good tack for backies!!
Ben this is great! I remember seeing you forward-looping on a tiny wave very close to the shore made me lose that fear to try it! With this is THE SAME! Will try and revert. :-) You such a legend for learners!!!!!! Thanks!
That's awesome! Probably what my first backloops looked like even though they felt like I was 10' up! How about micro forwards? I just landed my first micro forward on my weak side which also shows that anyone can do it!
Thanks for all great video tips, Ben! Been happily trying these micro back loops - not too intimidating and lots of fun even though I’m still far from landing them. Normally, the last thing I see before taking a dive - nose of the board going straight into the water. Today seem to have gotten better rotation, but found myself above the sail and ended up with a face plant. In your video sail seems always above the sailor, so that shouldn’t have happened. Trying to figure out what I did wrong...
Owwww yaaa the windsurf its absolutely an amazing technic sport. You rock Ben, tnx for the tips 👏👏👏🙏🏻Cheers from Chile 🇨🇱 Btw: I know there are some vids about but it would be great a chapter just about footstraps wave settings with and without boots
Awesome tips. I have tried literally hundreds of back loops and have landed... one. I'm excited to put your tips into practice at 3rd Avenue in the San Francisco Bay. Not much chance of video there because the channel where the big chop is is about a mile away from the beach!
Ben or someone else turned in here. I am trying to learn backloops like many others are and will use this micro technique as well to practice, but can you let me know what you mean by " hangning"?. You you made a point of it and said " definitely dont do hangning when doing traditional backloop attempts
Thanks for a great video. Why do we move move our hand back on the boom if we're not sheeting in? Should we have our front hand next to the harness lines and back to the chest? Thanks
Great advise-can't wait to try this! BTW I have the 92 Flywave-I'm about 78-79 kilos but would like to try the 85liter Flywave. Any advise on that? Thanks Ben! Greg
Great! Had a few tries yesterday (before this video was out) and what happened to me was that when I hit a steep ramp, I looked over the shoulder and could see the water, but the board wouldn't turn, or at first it started to turn the wrong way, and then it was not time to get it around, so I fell on my side. What I did with the rig, sheet in/out, close or far away from me, that I don't know... The wind was maybe 20° onshore, I think I jumped pretty much straight into the wind. Can you make some guesses what I did not do right?
I really need some sort of video.. but could be your hand wasnt back and front hand too close to the front of the sail. But it’s not that simple need to see what you are doing with board on take off and sail angle etc
Interestingly if you look at the small back loop from the insta360 cam.. my front hand moves back on the boom at the top of the rotation. I actually didn’t realise I did it.. but it’s to get the rig forward (body weight back a bit) again just think about landing you body will do stuff you don’t realise!
Looking at the video again, especially the freeze frames and slow motion helps, I think I had the rear hand too far forward, and sheeted in, leading to that the wind could not get "under" the sail, and thus not initiating the rotation.
Great vid, best tip I think is keep that sail flying, keep the clew of the sail up whatever, even if you have to fake the landing and your feet come out, just keep the sail flying and water start out before anyone sees your feet came off the board!
Hey Ben , Have you had much response from this video? I see all the comments relate to when you originally posted it . I have been flopping through these back loops with modest success so keen to see others . Nowt on film , sorry.
Hi everybody! F..... Back Loop, I almost broke my knee yesterday on landing it. And It's not the first time :(. It can't be so difficult!!. What am I missing? Please help me... Alain from Cabezo
.. and in the next video, how to triage a compound fracture on the beach, using your downhaul tool to tie off the artery., and how to compress the deep punture wound from the fin that is lodged in your abdomen ... ..🤣🤣🤣
Hey Ben, this is really helpfull trick (tip). I love your "slow down" and "focus on landing, you will land" approach !!! So far I am exactly like you said I just send it, without even considering landing. In some "extreme-ish" conditions when I am afraid to jump and wave is big so I cant go around I rather try backloop, because even without landing it is somehow "softer" then not doing anything and just fall down + plus it looks cooler from beach hehe :D Do you think its OK to try with 107l freeride board with 6,3 wave sail on lake? (its my light wind [5m/s+] gear, so straps are at the sides of board - do you recommend to change its position to center of board?) btw I will probably send it no matter which setup I will have I dont have much days on my waveboard :( Any answer from more experience fellow surfer is much appreciated :)

Had a very happy rotation through a micro back loop today so I've renamed it a Ben-loop , B-loop, and finally "Bloop" from now on.
I never witnessed somebody who can give so precise and useful instructions. Really great Ben.
Amazing - this seems so achievable, loving the grassroots tutorials!!

We called this jump the Helicopter, back in the day. Easyer than the back loop and a lot of fun.
5:29 best moment ever
You are a master!!! I gave up backloop a few years ago but I'm going to start again this afternoon 😂. Thanks again for your work!!!

Excellent! That's one for the windy days
Used to do backloops in the 90ies in Maui. Now at age of 50+ looking forward to my new mission in Tenerife soon. Thanks for the inspiration!
This is awesome Ben - thanks for taking the time to do this
Thank you for taken your time explaining
Managed to over sheet and over rotate a few of these a few weeks back on the lake!! Perfect tips for me!!

Next stage is you sending in videos 😁

Great news mate 👌🏻🔥🔥 …interesting about the different tack. It does work like that sometimes!
Thanks!
You are a true legend mate!!! Will be out to try once the Norwegian fjord finally melts.

great thanks a lot. I tried so many with over rotation. i will try tomorrow again your micro back loop
Great vid Ben :) just the kind of tips i have been looking for to land a backie
Great stuff Ben
Thank you for the excellent explanation. I have a mate who does these and he could never explain the details. 👍
had a few goes at this today. not getting round enough but at least not letting go
Video?
@@WindsurfingTV nope... Need to sort out camera.
Keep up the good work Ben!

Excellent pointers, will go for it next time \m/
awesome tips! does make it look less scary to try :)
Excellent Ben!
All great tips! but we wanna know: who is the couple kissing in the background at around 2:40mn?

where is this beach? thx
This is Tonel beach in sagres
Nice video. Any reason you are using a kite spreader bar?
Hey Ben, would be a nice series, if ppl can send their progess on struggling moves. Maybe you and some Pro's can help them out!?
Well that’s the plan.. let’s see
Well... how did you do that little Back Loop you're doing?

I’ve got a few.. not loads and I think most that have been sent are from before the video I did. But ill do the follow up video soon.. stay tuned
Does this work for foil back loops too?

It's been very wave heavy as of late. A cannonball special once in a while would be nice.
Well It’s Wave season at the moment... the summer is coming and there won’t be a wave in sight! I try and mix it up as much as possible!
Okay.

That is bloody awesome thank you
