Olo Sherry Solist is my fav Kavalan.
I have had about 3 casks so far and they have all been 9-11 years old and all insane quality.
I personally think they produce some of if not the best whisky in the world.
They’re definitely up there. Top 20.
I bought this from prestige last week .. this is exceptional stuff. A real stunner. An easy collector's piece since this quality will seldom be found in a Kavalan that isn't like $600. Gonna get 2 more bottles while I still can. Btw Rob, love the music in this vid. Is that you on guitar?

The one Kavalan Solist that I had was an Oloroso cask... This was almost five years ago. It cost me $250 at the time, and it was a miss. I have been reluctant to try more expressions, especially with those crazy prices!
Try the Rum Cask from Prestige. You’ll love it.

Nice comparison. I was eyeing that rum cask at Prestige on the weekend. Didn’t pull the trigger though. I did try the Solist PX cask recently and it stomps the regular Solist Oloroso. I really like the Solist Olososo a lot, but it’s not that close imo.
I have a 9 year sherry soloist , pretty good !
Early Dec 2023, some LBCO stores put all 3 Solist versions on sale -20-22% off, down to 250-280 $CA range . . . may get that Sherry.

Great review Rob. You're bang on wrt various wine finishes and their prices. I wonder which wine finish is their Vinho Barrique. I have had their ex-bourbon sample and that was really good.
I believe it’s similar to port. Not 100% on that. Some sort of Portuguese fortified wine cask. Cheers buddy.
@@WhiskyInThe6 a better explanation of vinho barrique; When it comes to the Solist Vinho Barrique (‘vinho’ meaning ‘wine’ in Portuguese, ‘barrique’ referring to the type of barrel), Kavalan’s single malt is aged in STR American oak casks that once held both red and white wine, before being bottled at cask strength.
what do you do with those lovely fancy boxes when you're done the whisky?

I just had the opportunity, in an Asian duty-free to buy a kavalan solist(port cask), kavalan is practically nonexistent in Australia, I bought it 1ltr 130usd 190aud$ and chirping because when I arrived in Melbourne duty-free there were no kavalans ;)

@@WhiskyInThe6 That would be great! During the past two years, a lot of legendary Sherry cask whisky reviewed on this channel either have disappeared on the shelves or have cost lot more nowadays. However, the Fino Solist remains the same price, which makes it more relevant nowadays for sherry whisky lovers.
