We're back with a team up from Ridley Scott, Sony Pictures and Apple TV to tell us life behind one of the most famous French figures in history: Napoleon Bonaparte. The story we're shown looks fairly similar to others, but I think hides in an agenda that most other films would tend to leave out. Let's dive in.
An epic that details the checkered rise and fall of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine.
    Director: Ridley Scott
    Writer: David Scarpa
Stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim

A life as intense and complicated as Napoleon's cannot be comprised in one single movie. The best movies have been about just one event in his life (like Waterloo, 1970), or have been TV miniseries (like the French production Napoléon, 2002) to *try* to tell most of his story.
If you were left with the impression that after watching this new production you don't need to watch the 4 hours version - because Napoleon was not a remarkable guy anyway - that says a lot about how bad the movie is.
For good and for evil, Napoleon was an extraordinary guy. If he had remotely been a buffoon, by no means he could have made himself Emperor of France *after the bloody French Revolution that had executed a king and a queen.* The French people by no means is easily swayed.
Don't you see anything extraordinary there?
