The players who intentionally punched other players to the head, would be sidelined for a few months. Recklessly tackling or punching above the shoulders is illegal and a penalty would ensue from the match review committee soon after. 😮

Mate... you ought to check out footage of the great game from the '70s and '80s. Those times were more brutal. They've cleaned up the AFL a lot since then.

Very similar to the NFL in the states. In the 70s and 80s guys used to get away with near-murderous hits and many played while concussed

Yes it's the ugly side of the game but fortunately it's rare and penalties can be quite severe including financially.
Footy is a fast, all intense ball skills, super athletic, complex strategic plays, at times spectacular turnovers of play and above all a real community sport.
