But when a certain result keeps happening over many years, people start getting curious and begin attributing it to omens and curses. In club football, many of such curses exist. Think of the curse of Bella Gutman on Benfica and you may find yourself believing in such omens.
The world cup is no different. Many trends have been seen and attributed to curses but we are here to highlight a few of them that have been broken at Qatar 2022. You wouldn't believe how long some of them have actually stood for.

To think Messi went from not scoring a single goal in the knockouts to not only scoring 5 in the knockouts, but to also become the only player to have scored in every single stage (Group, R16, QF, SF, FInal) in World Cup history.
Yeah, but with penalties. Technically he scored only in round of 16 and in the final. And that was in extra time final, time that shouldn´t have happened. Other than that, only penalties. It´s not so big achievement.

@@sparshrawlani7130 They might not be sure goals, but it´s more than 50% chance to score from them. Messi scored only 3 goals from play the whole tournament, everything else were only penalties. And they weren´t even his penalties, they were from his teammates. So realistically he didn´t score to Netherlands or Croatia. It´s still good to score all those penalties, but it´s not like some special goal. Even the poor English are scoring around 50% of their penalties. And they are the worst in this.
@@MihailParshin Noo it's just stupid to say "reastically" he did not score. Penalties or not, a goal is a goal and shouldn't be taken away from any player. Learn to appreciate them as much as you appreciate other goals. Even with penalties is their any other player to score in every stage of the world cup? No right, sorry end of this conversation.
@@sparshrawlani7130 No, I won´t apreciate gifted penalties. First, all those penalties are very contravercial, but that´s another thing. But, none of the penalties were made by Messi. He took them, while others made them. In that case, I won´t apreciate it, that to me is like stealing a goal from your teammate. It not only for Messi, Ronaldo and lot of others also do it. When it´s for the team, it counts anyway. But when it´s for personal record, I can´t take it serious.

They are the first reigning Copa America winners to win the World Cup since the FIFA World Cup began, which sounds absurd but it's true! When Uruguay won in 1930, Argentina was the CA champion. When they won again in 1950, Brazil was the CA champion. When Argentina won in 1978 and 1986, Peru and Uruguay were champions, respectively. And Brazil's wins came when Argentina, Uruguay, or Colombia were reigning champs.

Until France broke it this year, Maybe the World Cup Champions Curse affected only European teams: before 2022, The only team that survived the World Cup Champions Curse in the last 5 World Cups was the Brazil Squad that won in 2002: In 2006, Brazil made it out of the group stage but got knocked out in the quarterfinals
What's fascinating to me, crazily enough, Brazil's curse of losing to European teams in the knockout stage hasn't been broken. Since they won in 2002, every European team they face in the knockout rounds have eliminated them (France, Netherlands, Belgium and now Croatia)!

France hardly beat the curse. They trade one to another. Key players missing : Benzema, Pogba, Kante, L. Hernandez, Kimpembe. Other missing : Nkunku, Mike Maignan, Rabiot, Upamecano during Semis, Varane Konate during finals.
It is just a shame. When I see this WC, the french full squad could have lost like every team yes, but also could have humiliated everyone and win easily !

The “World Cup curse” was about the defending champions getting knocked out of THE GROUP STAGE, not about them losing in the knockout stages. If the curse included the knockout stages, therefore meaning “not defending your title AT ALL” we could say it has always existed, as Brazil and Italy are the only ones in history who’ve defended their title. France have broken said “World Cup Curse” fair and square !
The World Cup reigning champion curse wasn’t real in my opinion. Every time the reigning champions now had an old team for the next World Cup except from France this year

It’s like saying Germany losing their matchups against France since the 2014 World Cup is the price they have to pay for beating France to get their 1st 21st century World Cup. The curse France revived (as Brazil had their group exit in 1966) is GONE ! At least for now.

Quatar WC has most curse broken actually, for example:
- Poland finally reached to 1/8 round after 36 years later
- Morocco first African team reached to semifinal
- First time THREE Asian representations reached to 1/8 round
- First time Middle East represent beat one of favorites [Saudi Arabia 2:1 Argentina]
- First time more favorites was defeated surprisingly by "weakest" representations such like Morocco, Japan, Saudi Arabia.
- First time two favorites was out of group stages.
There´s no way that is the first WC for 2 big teams to be eliminated out of the group stages. In 2002 France and Argentina were out of the groups(also Portugal as well). Then 2014 the group of death when Costa Rica eliminated England and Italy in the same group. And who knows how many other cases. Here you are not right.
Fun Facts: Both finalists Argentina and France are, ironically, the two big favourites to win the World Cup in Korea and Japan 20 years earlier, in which they ended up being grouped. This is coincidence because France were still regarded as the best team in the world and Argentina were promised to win the World Cup after having a good preliminary campaign by topping ahead of Brazil.

Mexico also broke their curse of always making it to the round of 16 and then losing
also Argentina broke the Mexican curse. Whoever won against mexico was always defeated and not won the world cup.

@@rmoreno1826 that curse is still working. The course is about any team eliminating Mexico, not just beating them. So it doesn't work on the group stage.
Japan round of 16 curse still continue
Mexico (they didn't even get out of the group this year) has been going at it even longer. They went 7 consecutive tournaments from 1994 to 2018 always getting out at Round of 16 before the current tournament. But they did get to a quarterfinal in 1986 and 1970 when there were fewer teams.

You forgot to mention a big one. Qatar is the first time a world cup is played November-December, all other world cup has been played in June/July. That curse has finally been broken.

It’s not a curse. It’s bad selection. They bring very old players instead of youngins. Look at France & Argentina very young squads. England they played the same old squad from Euro. Belgium, Portugal, Croatia, Brazil they had very old players that shouldn’t have gone.
