Very interesting topic. I was curious about the Nittewo since their tumultuous activity that petrified some villages a few years ago in Sri Lanka. Is the Nittawa related to Urang Pendek of Indonesia?? Or is it a Crytid like the elusive Bigfoot? Which is believed by some is a inter dimensional humanoid. Homo floresiensis or the Hobbit may have perished. But the eyewitness accounts of the Orang Pandek is rife in the jungle of Indonesia. And the likeness is quite similar to Nittawa. I’m a Sri Lankan in Australia. I’m looking forward for a intriguing response. Thank you!!
Well, Nittawa could very well be a product of someone's vivid imagination coz no archeological evidence has been discovered to prove their existence. Or they might have belonged a lesser known more primitive " human" (not cryptid) tribe.
Poor Nittewa, probably trying to breed taller kids. Flores island also had dwarf elephants. Present Sri Lamkas have around 5% Veddhi, Balangoda lineage

Similarly, I got to know that there is a story of such a human-like creature called "Orang pandak" from Indonesia. the word "orang pandak" means "short man" in the language spoken in that part of Indonesia. people who lived in that part of Indonesia also has a similar story about the killing of those hobbit people. According to their folk tales, Indonesian villagers raided the cave of Those hobbits (Orang Pandek), fired and killed them in live in their cave itself. This folk tale also is very similar to that of the Vedda's story about their attempt to kill "Nittavos" in Sri Lanka. and also according to the physical features suggested by the words of Indonesian people who describe their "orang pandak," there can be traced some similarities that of Vedda's words about "Nittavo". I have red an article in Sri Lanka news paper about Nittawos with pictures more than 35 years ago. News paper has explained Nittawos make trouble to ladies and carried to jungle for sexual perpose. Finally people all getting together pushed them in to the cave fired and killed. Futher I have seen similar to Homosapien person found in the jungle and brought to the society in Indonesia. It hight is close to human and unable to talk. Futher I saw in TV program about in India Himalaya snow man call Yati. Yati body full of hair and taller than human being.

අවුරුදු 15කට වගේ කලින් කියෙව්වා ප්‍රධාන පුවත්පතක සති අග කලපෙක තනි පිටුවක් වගේ නිට්ටෑවුන් ගැන. ඒ විස්තර සර් කියපු දේ හා සමපාතයි. වෙනස් වුනේ ඒ සටහනේ තිබ්බා නිට්ටෑවුන්ට තියෙන්නේ සූකර පෙනුමැති හිසක් වග. ඒ එක්කම එකේ තිබුන මේ නිට්ටෑවුන් ඉතා දරුණු නිසා ඔවුන් දෙතුන් දෙනෙකුට තනි මනුස්සයෙක් හසු වුනත් මාරාන්තික බව. ඒ වගේම ඔවුන්ගේ මේ දරුණු ගතියත් සමඟම ඔවුන් දඩයමක් කලොත් අස්ථි කැබල්ලවත් ඉතිරි නොකරන බව. ඒ නිසා අවෂේස නැතුව ඉවරම කරලා දමන යන අර්ථයෙන් නිට්ටාවටම ඉවරයි කියන යෙදුම අවේ නිට්ටෑවුන් හරහා කියල.
