Back at another State of New Jersey vehicle auction. There was plenty of the typical rusty hulks and high mileage beaters, but there were some surprising finds too.
These are my favorite videos that you do. You don’t pull any punches you tell it how it really is and you show right away what they went for - love it !!! Thanks for sharing !!
I enjoy seeing the stupid money that some of these cars go for. What would have been a $500 car a couple of years ago is now well over $1000. I think that the van that didn’t run was probably worth a chance if someone needed a van. Thanks for the post Chris. Auctions are always fun. ⚡️💥💯
Good morning man. This is Ted from Texas. I must say New Jersey does not take care of their cars. Some states take care of their card real good. Thank you for showing this. Stay safe
hey there Ted from Texas! And yeah, totally agree. NJ is rough on their cars. They seem to get every last ounce of use out of them before dumping them off.
$5300 for a completely totaled Explorer? Crazy. Regarding the square holes, it could be from the end of a steel guard rail. They're held on with square nuts. The impact could have pushed the car into the side of a rail. The squares are fairly consistently angled and spaced. The Patriot could have been a good flip. It's a base model but they're decently reliable. That last Caprice was a nice color and in decent shape, almost looks like a Delaware State Police car. With the price and an engine swap you could have made out all right.
I liked the vid as usual but you made a mistake. That DESTROYED Interceptor wasnt $5300. It was only $53.00. And the auction actually paid the guy the $53.00 for taking that mangled junk off their lot.
Absolutely, and figure they all need battery’s, brakes, tires and usually a starter just from sitting. Plus anything that was wrong with it before it got parked!
Want to see some Rust buckets come to Michigan where cars come to die I've been in the used-car business for 30 plus years refuse to pay the inflated prices especially with rusted bodies and on suspension parts not going to happen with me
I've forgotten how rusty vehicles get in Michigan. A few years ago, on a cross-country road trip, I stopped at rest area/travel center somewhere in the Upper Peninsula of MI, and saw a horribly rusted late 90s/early 2000s Dodge Dakota that belonged to one of the employees. Damn that thing was rusty! A significant portion of the body was gone, simply rusted away. I'm surprised it was still legal for the road. I can't see it passing an inspection. And there I was, parked in my Corolla, about the same age as that Dakota, only my car looked showroom new, not a spot of rust and shiny, original paint.
@@reallyrandomrides1296 yeah I've seen cars here where I live by the time they're 10 years old the brake lines just about everything starts to have rust my personal cars I usually buy in parts of California and Arizona and have them shipped back 2 Michigan and I put them in the garage during the winter months and just drive a beater around during the winter myviewpoint if you got a good body on a car that's rust free you don't mind putting a trans or motor in it but if they're Ruston you can't trust them👍
Some what off topic, but don't you miss that beautiful S65?? Are you planning any new adventures in that direction? Thanks for your allways interesting walk-arounds!
That F250 XL at about 3:00 is probably so basic you'd be lucky if it has 4WD. I have heard a good about a good amount of work trucks being 2WD only. And even if it did have 4WD it would have mechanical 4WD and not an electronic button/knob control
Have you ever thought buying a clean nice surplus vehicle for around $3000 , and the putting in a crate 350? Add on all new stuff like starter, water pump etc. You'd end up with a highly dependable long time use vehicle for less than $300. I did this and now I'm enjoying a cheap but trouble free old car.
Thanks for the walk around the Ford van was a rust bucket 🪣 the Chevy van went for a good price. It a shame about the Caprice ppv The Crown Victoria looked ok but NJ cars and trucks are part of the Salt belt. NY NJ Pen Connecticut New England.
I enjoyed the walk around too and bringing the video to you. And I totally agree. That Chevy van was a great deal for someone but those other cars and that rust! Dang man.
Ford E350 Econoline is one of my dream van car ! (only 3 in France 150 version) With Pullman chair front and rear, and nice cargo space =) New full body paint job, tinted glass, that's great. It will be perfect for my next european road trip
You're right and thanks for the reminder. I always gravitate to cars I like not necessarily cars that have the potential to make a few bucks. I learned that with my last buy, that 1996 Caprice, where I paid a bit too much but it was something I've wanted for a while now.
Considering the maintenance these cars receive, I am surprised there are so many that were towed in. Do they run them until they blow up? Most government entities don't do that, it is counter productive to what they do.
Sometimes some of their fleet gets forgotten about and they just run them until they die. Probably a way for them to justify increasing their budget for the department or they claim the insurance on them if there is a major failure or crash.
@@IKhanNot My point on that was if a department runs them until they die it costs more in lost time and hassle when the employee couldn't finish the job or if they had to call out another vehicle to replace the broken one and add to that the police or corrections department and that magnifies.
@@mexicanspec That is true but when a vehicle gets to a certain mileage and age and the department is bringing in a new fleet of vehicles that some vehicles already there will be some that get neglected and not even driven. There's a car rental company that, quite often, purposely kills their cars to claim the insurance.
Yeah, some of those vehicles were pretty rough, but at least most of them sold for very reasonable prices. I've forgotten how rusty cars from the rust belt can get! That's why I love living on the west coast. In the 1990s I bought a canary yellow Pinto from New Jersey, and it lived up to the rusty reputation. I see not much has changed a quarter of a century later, and damn that makes me feel old!
The Jeep Patriot was like $20000 Canadian brand new. Probably owned by a single mom then repossessed sold at a buy here pay here then repossessed. Then sold at auction and beat until the tranny died. Generally the story of 90% of them . They were the go to cheap new car before Chrysler put everyone with a sub 600 credit score in a dart or journey.
I look at my fleet of 2000- 2011 cars and glad I don’t have any of that fancy crap on the front: HID headlights, adaptive cruise control, rain sensing windshield. All that crap that will break and cost Thousands
Hello from the UK!! Another great video!! Thanks very much!! Even after being out of production now for 10 years it's still good to see a Crown Vic there. Would luv to have that here in the UK. Any idea what color that Crown Vic is?
Thanks for watching and hello to you! I'm still amazing how often I see those Crown Victoria's cruising around here in the US. And just like you said, even though it's been a decade since the last one was made, they are still common to see. That blue Vic in the video is called Light Ice Blue. A beautiful color for sure.
Chris Saturday is the big auction for the county ink that I live in there's a 107 cars 1200 trucks believe it or not in a bunch of other things I got my eye on a couple of ppv And there's 22 Dodge Charger police interceptors dinner scepters not to mention all the stolen recovery vehicles that are there there is also 2RT chargers sitting there and they're starting at 6:00 bucks I can't wait starts at 7:30 and I'll be there at 6 thanks man
These prices are completely outrageous. Before Covid these car prices were so much lower than today. Truck prices however have always been high and continue to be that way even today.
Awesome video! What do you think a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with about 120,000 miles, in nice shape, and a transmission that has trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd would go for at an auction? My parents have one they are thinking of taking to a scrapyard.
Hey there Gary! I'm shocked by the miles on that Charger too. I'm guessing the V6 doesn't have cylinder deactivation but man, they got a lifetime of use out of that one.

My Mercyry Grand Marqis was from Copart Trenton.Thank you for nice trip.
Always interesting to see you go thru the vehicle and see the sold price.
Love to see how “well” 😜🤔 maintained these vehicles were. 😂 And that shot up SAMASHED POLICE INTERCEPTOR! $1200. Wow!
Bullets can keyhole when they hit something. Those holes looked more like impact holes from a tool of some kind.
Buy one of the inop caprice put another eng in it keep on
Yeah, LS swap it!
Gosh, those 2 white Caprice's were cool!! Man for what they sold for, an engine swap would have been a nice fix for both of them
I totally agree!
The f250 was a good deal.
Always fun to try and guess the price ahead of the red stamper. Kinda like watching the Antiques Road Show. Thanks for the fun!

They didn't outlaw 15 passenger Vans. At least not where I live.

Some of the prices surprised me. Someone paid $5300 for that explorer turd but $8k for the F250 seems like a bargain.

These cars it's very expensive
Looks like a police ticket light on there at 11:50. With those benches too, maybe it was a SWAT van?
I was thinking that too when I saw the benches.
That's a great point about maybe a SWAT van. I didn't even think of that but it totally makes sense.
Two of my patrol cars I drove had bullet holes in them. They certainly can vary, but those didn't look like bullet holes to me.
