    I love all spooky things! I've become paraplegic and decided I need things to do in order to keep me preoccupied. My legs get really cold easily, so if I can make this, it would be perfect to make a blanket to take with me. I've never crocheted before, so this will be quite the journey.

    Tip- If your work starts to buckle, it’s got too many stitches in it (this applies to any project your working on)
    In this square, Round Two is 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet to make the corner, then put 3 double crochet in the next chain 1 space, then repeat the corner.
    This made my square too “full’ and caused it to buckle.
    I did Round Two again but only put 2 double crochet in the middle space between the corners. It took the pressure off the square and stopped the buckling.
    As this is just a plain base square, leaving out a stitch doesn’t effect the rest of the pattern.
    If the stitch count does matter to a pattern, use a bigger crochet hook. At least 1-3 sizes, depending on your yarns ply/thickness.

    • @Angie-in8wc
      @Angie-in8wc Рік тому +1

      @@toniasawyer2994 Are you using a super bulky yarn? That might be making it bulk up and ripple?
      Ok, right now breathe out, you’re probably a little frustrated but you’ve got this.
      Option 1. Instead of chaining 2 in the corners, chain 3, that will give you a little more room. When you’ve finished the round, put your fingers in the corners and stretch it out.
      Option 2. If that doesn’t work, do the round with only 2dc everywhere Nadia says to do 3.
      I’m not sure if that will effect further rounds but remember - this is just a basic granny square, the web goes on top and you don’t see the stitches, so don’t freak if it’s not perfect.
      Crochet can be very forgiving to mistakes.

    This was a super helpful video, such a great pattern! I used a different technigue for the background square that leaves no gaps in the corners though, so the part starting at 14:10 was quite challenging, but I've gotten the hang of it :)

    Hi. I love your beautiful crochet. My base granny square (and i hve done it 4 times) keeps twisting and going out of shape. I have tried a larger hook. I have added and an extra chain in the corners but it doesn't help. What am i doing wrong!! 😕

      I checked the pattern and it says to only put one dc in each stitch. i tried it and it helped so maybe that will work for you two. the corners are the same as in the video tho

    • @Angie-in8wc
      @Angie-in8wc 2 роки тому +2

      @@jejsk9617 If your work buckles it’s because there are too many stitches for your yarn type or you might be a “tight” crocheter.
      If you redo round Two and only put 2 double crochet in the middle between the corners not 3, it will take the pressure off and your work will sit flat. As this is a base square it doesn’t effect the finished project.
      I’ve put a better explanation in the comments section.

  • @ChristineBeeeeee

    So pretty! Thank you! I would like to make a giant granny square blanket. Do you think it the web will stretch out ok over a large square? I know I would need to make more rows to equal fit it but will the web lay flat since it's only anchored at the center and the edges? Thank you! 🙂

      It’s probably wouldn’t lay flat. You would need to get some thin yarn or thread to sew the web down in different places

    Does anyone know about how many of these squares would make a large lap blanket?? :)

    • @ChristineBeeeeee
      @ChristineBeeeeee 8 років тому +1

      The square she made looks to be about 1 inch longer than her crochet hook she layed beside it just before she began crocheting. So it's a 7 inch square. So if you want a 42 inch square blanket, it would be 6 granny squares long and 6 granny squares wide. That would be 36 granny squares in all (6X6=36). 🙂

    Girl I don’t know If you did this on purpose or on accident but, at first you said at 7:30 that it’s 2 chain 2 then 3 but in all the other corners you’re saying it’s 3- chain 2 then 3. I think this is why everyone in the comments is saying their square is all wonky. I’ve ruined three granny squares and so much time and yarn because of this. Again, don’t know if it’s an accident or on purpose.

      The beginning chain 3 counts as a double crochet so it still counts as 3 dc ch 2 3 dc
