As a fellow Brit, I feel rather embarrassed that this person taint the whole industry. Thank you for sharing this video Tim as Paul should not be allowed in the physical or online classroom, and thankfully from his videos this will be the case.
It's strange; he claims to be British, but he definitely doesn't sound like it. Unfortunately, this could be harmful for online British teachers since some countries, especially in certain cultures like China, tend to generalise. They might assume that all British teachers are the same based on this one idiot due to their collective way of thinking.
I think his particular accent is ´drunk´ and ´lived abroad for a long time and speaks to locals in ´condescending pigeon-English´; but I still hear the British undertones!
@@claire1254 He’s definitely picked up the Taiwanese English accent, especially in terms of pronunciation, which is primarily influenced by American English.
As a teacher who has been arrested for driving drunk (8 years ago and I no longer even drink alcohol), I cringed at first when you were explaining his background. However, I can promise I’ve never done anything like that!!
I'm an American, and I'm well aware that people have strong opinions about my own country. I can only imagine though what it would have been like to have a foreign teacher go off in front of me like that when I was seven years old because he doesn't like the way the government of my country does things. Sheesh, has that guy never heard of the idea of there being a time and a place for everything?
A Chinese company paying $14 an hour!! Unheard of! Having your views on Taiwan is one thing, but deliberately baiting the Chinese (who indeed know no better, and can't say differently anyway), and ruining the reputation of a teaching company and all its employees, and within a CHILDREN'S class?? Destroying the reputation of Britain too, as if they didn't think badly enough of us already. He's clearly an addicted attention-seeker and presumably very lonely. I hope he finds peace.
I am all for independence for Taiwan and am no fan of China's government, but that's a topic you debate with adults who want to talk international politics and issues with you. It is not something you yell at a child who is far from old enough to do anything but repeat what their parents tell them. And if he's that aware of the atrocities of the Chinese government, then he should know better than to even bring up topics like that while broadcast into a Chinese home. If someone would have so much as nodded before they argued with him, a government official could have seen that video clip and dragged these people off for "re-education."
One of many domains in which I claim no expertise whatsoever is the labor law space, but if he did this to be fired, maybe that would work in some venue where he’d be able to get unemployment compensation. However, for an online teacher, I see no advantages in doing this. A wiser solution: just stop logging onto that platform. On the other hand, this guy doesn’t strike me as a wise decision type of person.
Had to comment again. I am sadden that he will give us a bad rep. Also, just reminds me that im greatful that I've been trained by the Chinese companies.
