Thankyou Oscar Peterson I never got to see you live but as I was transcribing a blues you played one night I dreamt I saw you sleeping peacefully, the room was bright and I said Oscar that can't be you, this is to good too be real, and you rolled over looking at me with a big smile you stood up in front of me and said, "you have a good brain," and shook my hand. I didn't realize I was dreaming, but I asked Oscar if he could help me to play with his fire and spirit he shook my hand and then I woke up. I knew I was granted a divine visitation of God to be inspired by one of my greatest heroes. It was so real to me that I still believe it wasn't a dream, It was a vision granted by the Grace of God. Thank you, Oscar Peterson, for helping me to develop this gift. I love you, my big brother. One day we will meet again Rip.
When I went to Yoshi's club to hear Mr Peterson, the maitre'd said, "OH I am so sorry. The only table left is by the piano." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got winked at and he sings and hums all the notes he plays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My man Oscar....We all love you wherever you are.
When three people with such gifted talent as we hear here perform, it lulls us into a false sense of..." I could play like that". That's the problem with genius musicians... they make even the most complex peice look easy. But hey... we need brilliance like this to aspire to.❤
Y´all know the feelin of a tune flashing your soul when you listen it the first time.. To me this is one of the most impressive jazz themes ever written.
Same here! I remember hearing it for the first time on my car radio back in the 1980s. I had to stop the car and listen, I was mesmerized. It is so beautiful!
I come back here once every few months, I can't believe this is my first comment. Guess that's what I get for always using UA-cam on my phone. This piece is class and the performance here especially is legendary. Forever grateful to Oscar Peterson for this.
This song - Nigerian Marketplace - shows off the perfect foundation for Oscar. Niels and Martin Drew are the best. Use this for classroom instruction on what it means to play bass or drums in a jazz trio.
Immenso, favoloso e meraviglioso.
Oscar Peterson is dead, God rest his soul. Lay off!! He would have wanted people to simply enjoy his music, no matter how they came upon it. You think he was a miserly musician? Sheesh...

What a beautiful, beautiful song, full of emotions; yearning and yet also has an undertow of joy... That 'solo' bass riff....is pure poetry.

Martin Drew...one of mt favorite drummers. Miss him when I tour the UK!!!!!
Saw them perform this in March 1977 on a UK Tour. My favourite Oscar Peterson Tune, the beautiful melody at the beginning and then it just rocks!
THE BEST OF NHOP.. Great Basist!!
Oscar must have been proud when he finished writing this masterpiece.

Holly shit ! Never heard this version before ! That was insane. Will probably need to go to the record store and get a new gem for my collection.
Amazing performance! Just a perfect chemistry in a bamd!
So awesome to hear Oscar playing to a straight beat. So modernly sounding arrangement from him! Awesome.
Exactly ! What a modern sound

Je ne m'en lasse pas, c'est sublime!
Best line-up
Master of masters.
I saw the performance of his complete Africa Suite in Toronto, just before Covid. It was incredible.
The Paganini of the piano. I don't care how many people say it's Art Tatum. To me, it's Oscar!
First time seeing this. Love O.P. and N.P. This is absolutely phenomenal!!!
What kind of performance of these 3 jazz masters.

Windows chick corea
ベースがたまらん
this is quite different to the version on the record, both sublime though. When will the complete suit be performed again?

I prefered the Ed Thigpin Ray Brown line up.
