Alert Ready Canadian Emergency Alert Broadcast System - First BC Wide Test

The first on air test of Canada's new emergency alert broadcast system called Alert Ready or NAAD (National Alert Aggregation & Dissemination System).
This test was province wide, all TV and radio stations.

The ENDEC is capable of Both EAS And NAAD also known as Alert Ready

we had a tornado-warning on June 20 2016 but this year it went for a least 10 minutes non stop yet again no tornado

What kinda of equipment do you guys use for the Alert Ready System?? Is it like the SAGE units that the U.S. uses for the Emergency Alert System??

A lot of it is the same gear with different software inside. Sage is one, we happen to use the Monroe DASDEC. The primary difference between the Canadian and American systems is the Canadian system is all delivered by IP, no rebroadcasting of other stations, etc.

@@KamAbbott Yes But Also No If you use it in the US. The DASDEC II. A Cap Capable EAS Box Relays Via Radio For NOAA Weather Radio/FM OR IPAWSCAP. It Has a Licence For NAAD CAP. Sevaral DASDECs Have This On it.

Yeah well I'm looking this subject up right now because here in B.C. It was just on my radio station I'm listening to and then literally 5 seconds after that ended,my tv in the next room started a test as well ! Coincidence?!? Pfft,don't feel like one

Really? I've never seen or heard any tests. I checked the list and it says Nova Scotia 5/10/2017 1:55 PM ADT. Unless they're using DD/MM/YYY I saw and heard NO tests. no message by text -or otherwise and nothing on TV. In addition, why at 1:55? why not around dinner time or mid to late evening when more people will be home and more aware of the system?

I can't speak to why you haven't heard any tests but I can explain the time. The tests are called "public awareness" but in reality it's a technical test of the system. X:55 is right after broadcasters last commercial break of the hour that starts about X:50 and before the top of the hour news. The reason it's during the day is so it happens while technical folks like myself are on hand to monitor the equipment.
Keep an eye on your TV and have a radio on for the next scheduled test. The system is mandatory and a condition of licence for all Canadian broadcasters. We are also required to file a report after each test.

Assuming that the next/first test will be on Oct 5th 2017 (because i didn't see/hear any tests last week on 5/10/2017) the only notification i MIGHT get may be via text while I'm in class. Otherwise I'll miss that test.
I didn't know about the technical side of it, however and that is good to know. thanks for the information

The system doesn't feed the cell system quite yet, but that is coming later this spring.
