The blue abishai is from Volo’s and Mordenkainen’s Foes, not Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus which features a red abishai. Thanks to pikapuff QC in the comments for catching the error.

Even though it is a very specific set, i love it! Imagine having ypur character being canonized in the game you love and having a set of minis just for his crew!
Right? And even if you know nothing about Joe and Arkhan, you could take this set and craft your own epic villain group with it. -Theo
Man I was so freaking excited to see these minis! I remember when Arkhan stole the hand of Vekna, pretty sure my jaw stayed opened for a whole hour in complete shock of what happened lol. Amazing review on some amazing minis!!!!
I'm right there with you, Nick! One of the best moments of play I've seen. Glad they found a way to carry that story forward. Thank you! -Theo
That manticore... Damn the previous ones look like a joke next to it.
Awesome review!
Yeah! It's great to get a really good manticore! Glad we have a variety now. -Theo
That tortle shell is crying out for dry brush highlights! That tortle is truly evil. It's literally killing my soul looking at it.
That's true. Some dry brushing would really bring out those runes. I might have to do that myself. -Theo
Definitely looks like a great set once the price goes down.
These sets go on sale fairly often if you watch the online stores. Might be trickier to get it on sale at a FLGS though. -Theo
These villainous looking miniatures are so cool!
I can’t wait to buy this set. It looks like a great one.
It's a super fun set! -Theo
The Arkhan mini is one of my favorites. I love all of the minis in this collection, but I especially appreciate the sculpt, detail, and paint on Arkhan. Krull is a close second.
I do really like those too! -Theo
I can't wait for this set. Great review by the way!
Thank you very much! -Theo
Great looking set of minis! That chango manticore looks leagues better than the other two pre painted manticores you showed. Very cool stuff.
Yeah, it's really nicely painted. Wish I had pronounced "Chango" correctly though. >.< -Theo
It's not a need but a want that compells me towards these minis. I hope they start doing more themed sets like this Once again another great review.
Thanks! Any particular themed sets you'd like to see in the future? -Theo
@@TheGallantGoblin I would love to see a set like this with Drizzt Do'Urden and his companions. Or anything Dragonlance Based mainly Raistlin Majere😀
im really impressed with all the extra info you supple like all the adventures that use the monsters and there history i don't watch D&D streams but its interesting
Thanks! Glad it’s been helpful! -Theo
I was holding off but I might have to buy these! Thanks for the video
Thank you for watching! -Theo
As someone not familiar with Critical Role, I was on the fence about this set, but eventually decided to preorder a month ago, did not regret it! The quality is really amazing. The translucent pieces are especially nice. You are getting Rare style/paint quality minis for 40$ and 2 Large minis, making it a very good deal. Arkhan actually has a more Red Dragon-like head than Dragonborn, he could work well as a Half-Dragon too. Torogar looks amazing with that tattoo and flaming scimitars, quite great paint on his armor too. Krull has a really wicked look with the geometrically-shaped shell and evil skull maul. And I like how even the Berserker has tattoos and quite a lot of detail! Do wish the Abishai was more, well, white, got a bit too much brown on him. I do wonder if they will release maybe another one in a different pose in another set.
I didn't quite realize how many abishai we had gotten recently. I do think this set is quite good all on its own. I wouldn't mind seeing them release a villain cabal set like this with stat blocks and story hooks for people to craft their own one-shots or campaigns. -Theo
@@TheGallantGoblin Yeah they seem to be adding one Abishai per set of late! I do hope the others will not be Rares, though - they are far lower CR than the blue and the red. And once a Wizkids employee replied to my question when asking if we would see similar sets in the future to "wait and see", so here is hoping we get more!
Very cool minis
Nice review
Thank you! -Theo
Preorder in January
Yes, indeed! -Theo
This looks awesome
Very nice review! Might get this! :D
Thanks, CK! It's a fun set with some unique minis! -Theo
Absolutely! And that is always welcome! :D
Can't wait for mine to arrive !
It's a fun set! -Theo
the blue abishai is from Volo's & Mordenkainen's Foes set , the baldur gate one is the red i think but the white look cool too its a must buy for sure
Thanks for the correction! You are correct the BG Avernus one was the red. It’s been a whirlwind week so we apologize for the error. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin its fine , i love your video ! keep the good work
Still waiting to get this set.... cannot wait to get my hands on this set
Arkhan is my idol at this point. Love it when PCs become canon.
Heh, Joe would be proud! -Theo
Nice video
Nice Guild Wars figures on the sides!
Hehe, I can outrun a centaur. -Theo
Hello! Love your show! 😃
Idea for a new segment: use your amazing collection of minis and scenery pieces and set up actual campaign settings, where you go through the adventure rome by room? 🙂
Hey, thank you! Hmm... it's just a matter of finding the time to add new segments! We're trying to fill in our reviews of older sets while still covering the new ones coming out each month! As soon as we catch up, we'll start branching out more and more! That's a nice idea! We like working on creative projects like that. -Theo
The Gallant Goblin cool! I’m getting pretty impressed with the quality of Icons of the Realms paintjobs (and the Pathfinder). 😊
The Gallant Goblin you don’t have a Patreon?
We do not have a Patreon at this time. We're not sure what we would offer to make it feel rewarding to supporters. -Grady
The Gallant Goblin many content creators only give their Patreon previews of their videos, before they make them public, that’s it. When I support content creators on Patreon, I do so with no other expectations that I want them to continue to make videos and to show my appreciation of their work. 🙂
Dang, 40 dollars for 6 miniatures is a bit expensive. Hopefully they can find a way to bring the price down. 40 bucks can get you 16 unpainted D&D miniatures at my local comic shop. Still, the characters in that set are spectacular. Good Show.
There are US and Canadian retailers selling the set at a discount. I believe I saw Game Nerdz was one of them, though I am not familiar with their reputation. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin Hey, I really appreciate the heads up. I really would love to have this set, but I'm sort of on a budget. Also, Thanks for the heads up on the Toad&Troll website. They have some excellent miniatures for reasonable prices. Thanks so much, I'm really glad I found your channel.
@@TheGallantGoblin I can vouch that GameNerdz is a solid outfit. I have ordered from them multiple times, including a preorder of a set that was priced much lower than their competitors had it at, ahead of a release. They fulfilled promptly upon release. Thanks for the tip on the possible preorder on this set. Going to go look now to see if it is on there.
I must have it.
There aren't alot of pre orders online currently that are priced reasonably. Hope this changes.
One thing I have been disappointed with on previous miniatures from GF9, is the decision to make .......SPOILERS....... The Hand of Vecna super dinky and tiny on Arkhan's body. I like how this one actually looks like the hand has formed and twisted to become part of Arkhan, and not just a tiny hand tacked to his beefy arm.
Oh yeah, it's big and beefy here. I haven't seen the GF9 unpainted minis yet, but I'm glad we have a variety of options to choose from. -Theo
Question, if Dragonborn canonically don't have tails, why does Arkhan have one?
Please let me know.
Joe talks about it in this Twitter thread: twitter.com/joemanganiello/status/1189790978430951428
So the short answer is his homebrew world gives Dragonborn tails and he retains all creative control of Arkhan. Lorewise Arkhan does come from a different universe than the core D&D sourcebooks so he doesn’t have to follow those rules. -Grady
Set looks like fire. I wish they would cool it with the MSRP creeping up though.
I worry a little bit that the product will flop due to how specified the minis are. I will pick up a set due to FOMO. I want to use them in my current Tyranny of Dragon campaign, but not sure how he will play out...maybe before his fall?
In other news...So uh...those GW2 Funkos huh? :0
If you ever need more people to play with Tengu.4029
It seems like anything Critical Role adjacent does pretty well, but yeah, I'm not sure how it'll do... I guess we'll only know if we see other similar products in the future. Hehe, nice! Feel free to pop in for guild missions sometime. We run them Sundays at noon Pacific. I'll send you a guild invite. -Theo
Hey we just tried to send you an invite but it says your account doesn't exist. Did you mistype your account number? -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin Oops - I did! Its Tengu.4209
I ordered these MONTHS ago based on your awesome review and they are still a preorder item, is WhizKids not going to release this set now?
These were delayed due to COVID-19 shutting down WizKids’ manufacturing and distributing partners. They just announced last week that the set’s new release date is June 3. Due to the unorthodox situation, retailers may get and release the product before that date (they are already out in several European countries) so June 3 should be the latest date at which it should be in stores everywhere. -Grady
I just nead to see that red and gold dragons... wainting whit a smile
Hehe, thanks! Working on it! -Theo
This is an awesome set, usually I'm not really impressed by these packs, they always just seem kind of lacking for the price but $40 or a bit less really seems fair for what your getting here ( how can you really put a price on the hand of ol' Jack Vance ............. Er ah Vecna 😉?).
TBH I just figured the berserker was a Conan homage, just look at the sword).
Yeah, it's a shame this set has been delayed, but better late than never.
And you never know, maybe Joe Manganiello's friend *is* Conan :D -Grady
dang, by the time this comes out, I won't need it anymore.
Oh no! Time to divert the party to a lengthy side quest! -Theo
wow, this looks really cool i'll probably think about getting-
"This set retails for $40."
... never mind
It's pretty common for miniatures to go on sale, especially after the initial rush of release. Obviously the discount depends on the popularity of the set but if you're looking for this product at a lower price point, I'd recommend setting price watches at various retailers. -Grady
Any idea of when this set will make it to stores?
It's slated for March 2020. I'm not aware of an exact date beyond that. -Theo
The set retails for $40... for about 6 months. Then it will cost $125 on ebay
When is it going to release? Thought it was already supposed to be out
The Arkhan set was delayed due to the coronavirus. As far as I can tell, they haven't been able to set a new release date just yet. -Theo
The Gallant Goblin thanks
When does it come out and where can I get it
It comes out in March but no exact date has been announced yet. It is available for preorder at your local game store or at many online retailers-you can do a search for “icons of the realms arkhan and the dark order” to shop and price compare. Just be aware there is an unpainted product from Gale Force 9 that is already out so don’t order the wrong version by mistake. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin thank you sir
baldurs gate will follow rise of tiamat story line????
Meh , it sucks that the minotaur is on a Large base , wanted to get that cool Minotaur hero mini , but other than that , pretty cool set
Yeah... the monster stat block indicates large but the player character option says it's a medium size. That's irritating. -Theo
krull:
*is a level 14 cleric*
*has only a CR of 6*
These are cool and convenient but the Galeforce 9 set has better sculpts.
There's always a tradeoff between Wizkids and GF9. It's just a matter of if you want something that you can take from the box and put right down on the table, or something that will take some work to assemble and paint, but which might look cooler in the end if you have the skill. I'm glad we have options! -Theo
Dragonborn don't have tails though
