Galneryus (Japanese: ガルネリウス, Hepburn: Garuneriusu, stylized as GALNERYUS) is a Japanese power metal band, formed in Osaka in 2001 by guitarist Syu and vocalist Yama-B. Originally the only official members, the two utilized several support musicians until bassist Tsui, keyboardist Yuhki, and drummer Jun-ichi officially joined for the release of their debut album in 2003. Yama-B left the group in 2008 citing musical differences, and Yu-To, who replaced Tsui in 2006, left the following year. Galneryus recruited Sho on vocals and Taka on bass, and released the album Resurrection in 2010. Jun-ichi left in 2016, and the following year the band released their highest-charting studio album, Ultimate Sacrifice, which reached number 13. In 2017, Loudwire named Galneryus one of the 10 Best Japanese Metal Bands.
Syu has described the music of Galneryus as symphonic metal, classic metal and progressive metal. He said that while they are very much influenced by European music, they mix it with the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi to create emotional music. At the outset of the group, Yama-B and Syu wanted to stand out and so, among other things, wore armour and a red enamel outfit respectively. However, they eventually changed their minds and wanted to convey their music most of all. Syu explained, "The better we are, the more attention we will get." The members of Galneryus are known for their high level of technical proficiency with their instruments, but they consider melody the most important factor in their songs. Syu said a song must still be good even when stripped down to just vocals and piano. The guitarist has also said that while he wants to stand out, the vocalist should stand out the most.
When composing music and trying to decide which of his projects the song will go to, Syu said he imagines the vocalist's voice and whether or not it matches the song. Because Galneryus has a keyboardist, the guitarist said he can "enlarge the world [he is] creating and be adventurous" with their music. In 2017, Syu said their previous three albums were mainly written by him and keyboardist Yuhki, with him usually writing the song first before Yuhki adds "compositions." Yuhki said that in general, up until their fifth album Reincarnation, they all entered the studio together and created the arrangement by jamming.
During his time with the band, the lyrics were written by Yama-B and usually in English. In 2006, they released their first song in Japanese with Syu explaining; "English is not our native tongue, so it's hard to convey our feelings in it, and Japanese listeners listen to our voice just as melodies, I guess. So if we sing in Japanese, I think we can convey more of what we feel." The Japanese lyrics continued when Sho joined for the same reasons. He usually asks the composer what kind of imagery they want the song to have before writing them.

You know why Syu rocks though, his shred is so driven by melody and is so easy to listen to. Even when he's busting out 10000 notes an hour there is a melody that is being outlined like all the time. Love the man, love this band. The best power metal band IMO.

It's absolutely criminal how Shu doesn't get mentioned in "greatest guitarists" list (looking at you too, Rolling Stones magazine). Can think of at least 20 guitarists from Japan that should be on these lists, yet don't see any.

That's 'cause it's mostly a popularity contest between the editors faves, not actually the *best* It's like they think no one outside the U.S. or UK plays guitar. Most of the best guitarists I've ever heard are Japanese....and Michael Romeo gets no mentions either. Sheesh.
Are we talking about Galneryus? Cause im a longtime fan of this band and im 100% sure there is no Shu in the band, there is Sho on vocals, and of course Syu on guitar but there is no Shu.
@@shineek I meant Syu. Pronunciation between Shu and Syu is near the same. Have been a fan of theirs for some years too, as well as other J bands. Either way, his name doesn't really get mentioned in "greatest guitarists" lists, and that is criminal

Oh boy where do I start? First of all great reaction.I love how you dont miss out on the small details. The drummer Lea is a new member who joined previous year after the departure of Fumiya of ankimo. Lea has his own yt channel where he has some galneryus drum covers. Lea has fit quite nicely with the band his playing is pretty clean,the harmonizing guitar and keyboard solo is kind of a speciality of galneryus they have done it tons of times in their previous songs. you guys have reacted to sho-era galneryus and they've all been amazing reaction,I really want you guys to react to some.songs from yama-b era too,my recommendation would be new legend. Galneryus is SO GOOD! This song reminds me of "Rhapsody-meets-Dream Theater"! KILLER stuff! The whole band is amazing. SYU always kills it on the guitar, and Masatoshi-san is a fantastic singer! Yuhki tears it up on the keyboard solo parts! Taka is laying down some nasty bass lines! The new drummer Lea is phenominal! \m/

Gotta say, not my favourite Galneryus song (it has a lot of melodies and licks that remind me of other Galneryus and Syu songs), but it still slaps!
Syu have always played ESP lol. He has like a few dozen signature custom ESPs. The one in this video is his most recent one - SYUNAPPER-7, a 7-string like the name suggests.

Regarding the smiling, thats the best part of Syu, hes always smiling when playing solos, he looks like a child playing with his favorite toy. Thats why Galneryus songs have usually 2-3 solos and quite long as well, many times with duo parts with the keyboard.
Also this is the first PV with the new Drummer Lea who joined the band in 2020.

Great performance all around - but that bass solo: that wasthe nastiest, dirtiest, most shocking and amazing bass solo I can remember!
Never thought I'd say that it's a good thing fumiya left, but if this song is anything to go by Lea is a better fit and amazing drummer as well. This might be their best song yet. It's crazy when you compare this to their old stuff which is still great, but every album they seem to make it just a bit better again.
The only thing that worries me is that sho is apparently a smoker. It's crazy that at his age he can still do this, but sooner or later the smoking is gonna break his voice and you'll be hard pressed to find a vocalist like him.
I think i saw somewhere that he stoped smoking. But yeah he is 55 years old. And this kind of voice? It's freaking Crazy

I have unironically listened to this song every day when I get up since it was released it’s soo good and a great way to wake up lmao I’m soo hyped for the ep if this song and flames of rage are any indicator this is gonna be really great (also next you guys could react to flames of rage (yet another one of there new songs atm I believe you can only watch it on the beyond the flames of purgatory video on the official galeneryus channel but it’s well worth it also I believe galneryus is one of those bands that sounds better live ngl))
