    Sometimes it is necessary to polish the edges of marble or granite tiles to finish the edge so that it matches the finish of the tile surface and gives a nice clean finish to the tile job. In this video I demonstrate how to use Rubi polishing pads to get the job done. These pads are used in conjunction with a variable speed grinder and a hook and loop Velcro backer attached to the grinder. The pads are used in succession from coarse to fine grits 50,100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000 and Buff. They are quick and easy to change because they are attached to the grinder by Velcro. These pads cannot be used with a high speed grinder.

    Thanks for noting the maximum speed (< 3,000 rpm) for using such a system with a grinder. Several other videos fail to caution against using these pads with a fixed speed grinder (typically > 10,000 rpm). According to multiple reviews, at high speeds, even a rubber disc (let alone a cheaper plastic one) will easily disintegrate.

      It is up to you to understand the capabilities of the tools you use. That being said, you can use PVA Polishing pads with a high speed grinder amzn.to/4cIp33R

    For marble tiles I suggest the wet polishing pads on account that depending on the quality of the stone, dry may chip it. For porcelain and ceramic, dry is fine

    Outstanding! Thanks Sal. I tried this with my porcelain tile, the side of the tile is smooth, but I'm left with a gray color that doesn't match the face of the tile. Will epoxy model paint or grout colorant be a good choice to finish the edge? Will it look good this way?

    Hey Sal, Great vid, as always. Is the procedure for nosing/polishing porcelain tile similar? Just work up through the grits? Do you have a porcelain VS grinder pad set you can recommend? Thanks so much for your expertise!

    i have a couple different types of these pads and whenever i get around 800 grit, it leaves colored marks on light colored stone. i think the marks are from the pads. im using a variable speed grinder, so not sure why. on dark stone its fine, these marks are only occurring on light marble. i think i seeing this colored mark on the edge you did as well.

    Hi Sal, we have a whole building's bathroom marble to polish. Would we be able to jump some of the grit to safe sometime? E.g. 50 - 400 - 800 - 3000, or any other recommendation please?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  5 років тому +1

      Find a product that has fewer grits to use for the process. Alpha High Speed PVA can usually do it in three grits, but it depends on the stone. amzn.to/2THXUpm

      Changes of plain and where tile meets a dissimilar material must have a flexible sealant, so caulk.

      Dy is a bit dusty, wet is very messy. However wet will always give a better result in a shorter time.
