Great videos and I enjoy your flying skills Martin :) For years I have been spraying my models with a transparent plastic primer before I start spraying with color. This ensures good adhesion. Models that already have the color on them from the factory I also first apply a plastic primer and then a (thin) layer clear coat. I do this so that the foam does not dent that easy and is easier to keep clean, especially the white parts. Oh yes, always let the paint harden for 1 day after it has been sprayed on. Working in bodyshops as a car painter for over 30 years.
Did you clean the surface with alcohol.... Looks like you had adhesion problems Most of these new foams have a mold release on them ...and paint doesn’t stick well to it Also they make a masking tape that is less tacky that might help ya out
Really sorry it ended like it did. But if it wasn't for stuff like this happening, we wouldn't learn stuff. I'm sure your next effort will be fine, as we learn from our mistakes. I was thinking, that, surely some paint manufacturer will have a foam etch primer to get a good contact on the surface. Best wishes, Dave W
You can always go for a weathered look, using airbrushed grey and black freehand over the peeled areas. Luckily, the peeled areas look almost simmetrical: both Wing roots and both wing tips. I'm sure It can work. Oh, and loose the blue tape - it's too strong! 😁
I MUST SAY IM IMPRESSED THANK YOU FOR THE FUNJET 2 ULTRA VIDEOS MUCH APPRECIATED IM IN AUSTRALIA COULDN'T UNDERSTAND ASSEMBLY SOLVED MANY THANKS RECEIVED MY FUNJET 2 YESTERDAY ITS BIGGER THAN I THOUGHT NICE ONE
First you should cover the Hull with white glue after dries with spray cun white primer and at the end use any colour do you like; best method and also waterproof! I paint my models years now
Wot you have done isn't easy, it's all undo, able, buddy, just a small set back, look on the bright side, the world's in a mess, and you, keep all us modellers locked in to Yr channel, 👍👍 total sanity
I liked it bro. Lot's of painting tips and that happens to me every time I paint. Can you say touch up time. Another trick is to put the masking on your shirt a few times before applying it to the painted surface. This helps me a lot. But there's always touch up to do. Get that thing in the air. I want to see it fly 😎👍👍✌
Repaint the top with gray (as primer), let it sit for a couple of days and then do the whole masking and painting thing all over again. Your grey base coat didn't dry fully.
I have a great idea ! Send to me and I’ll fix it and fly it! Actually clean with rubbing alcohol, spray and adhesion promoter down first then add light layers, also water based painters hold up better on foam. FYI
Paint simply does not stick well to Expanded Polypropolene (EPP). Some of my new micro planes are made of it, and their factory-applied paint is coming off just from light handling. I use blue painter's low-stick tape. And even then I will rub my hands down the length of the sticky side to let my skin oils reduce stick even further. Even after all that I have had it lift paint off this stuff. Good luck.
Hey everyone's human, trail and error we all keep learning. Like the chap before may be alcohol or a very fine sand paper/wet'n'dry would give a good key removing a release agent. Still I'm sure you'll make it look awesome.
Not every story is a succes story. It’s still a nice video. I enjoyed watching it. Maybe give it a twist. The story is that these are future combat drones right. Give this one some battle scares with the airbrush on the places where the paint lifted. Greetings from Holland, 😉
It is amazing with all the high tech paints, and primers out there that no one has come up with a suitable product to paint foam without the problems you suffered, you are not alone, I was attempting to paint a set of "Airtractor" floats recently, I got the base coat on okay, then masked up for the trim colour line, that was fine till I came to remove the masking tape, then had the same disaster you. :-(
Martin, what is the best distance from the nose for the best cg? I just got done building mine from a kit and it has a big motor and a big battery and I'm afraid to throw it without the right CG.
Dear Martin, I'm from India and I ha e serious issues to update Powerbox mercury SRS from ver 1 to ver 9, we have tried contacting your support team since the past 1 month and we do t have fix to this issue. Send a powerbox to Germany for update is very expensive, ease address this issue or let us know whom we need to talk at the highest level of management to sort this.

Thanks for the tips! Will bare in mind if I ever dare try another one!!

Dont ever use masking tape, you want to use low tack painters tape . I also like to run the tape across my shirt a few times .
yours???

I would free hand air brush to touch up the grey. You still did a amazing job.

If not mistaken, multiplex made a primer for the foam to prep before paint...
yes, i didn't see you cleaning the white foam. That's the whole issue of the removed grey paint. Love to see the second build Martin :)
Just paint the big parts in the middle black and cover the little bits of damage on the outside with stickers. I think it looks totally good already.
Use low tac painters tape. Green frog works great. But, the RC Geek has great videos for painting and masking materials for foam airplanes.

Great vide but we really need a full setup and using video of the powerbox pioneer and gyro sat with Futaba radios. Please.

can't wait to see it fly , i have been thinking of buying one of these . All the best .................
This Fun jet reminds me of my Hobbyking Rad jet . But it's a push prop, fun to fly!

No one is perfect Martin! Respect for sharing your mistakes!! 👍

Hate using water based, it normally rubs off on this foam.. second video coming soon, is it saved?! 😁
Martin, even do you have made an error on your plane It has a positive outcome and we learn from your mistakes. Great video Keep it up.

Btw I use the montana Styrofoam primer. It makes the top layers bond way better.
Martin what kind of paint did you use for the top grey? It looks so glossy. I ordered the same montana fluorescent spray paint.
Awesome.....
Every failure offers learning opportunities. I was worried about the regular masking tape. I personally use low-tac yellow frog tape.

That is awesome I’d leave it like that. It’s called custom n unique. My wife hates my custom work lol

Maestro Martin , don't sweat it, if you fly her far and fast enough nobody will care if she's 's Bonita or Fea. Thanks for sharing stay safe!
Martin, what is the best distance from the nose for the best cg? I just got done building mine from a kit and it has a big motor and a big battery and I'm afraid to throw it without the right CG.
Hello, like any paint job , you have to degrease and Sand thé surface to be paint...ans use less powerful tape 😉
auw, but enjoyed watching..see you in the next one!
What software did you use to make the design?
I did enjoy!! Been there done that!!!!
through out the video i was looking at the back of the video neon yellow dark blue light blue pilot plane very nice colour scheme
Hey Martin, you can a brush to patch up the grey and green etc.
It actually kinda looks good
Nice video!!!
Elapor comes out with a lot of silicone on the outside so that's the problem here I guess :D
Use a heat gun next time, it will let the tape come right off and no peel the paint!

Painting always a pain 😟
It happens to the best of us.
How about some 3M delicate surface tape
That’s why planes shouldn’t be made of foam😉🤣👍👍
cut some decals out and stick them on
Its always try N error Hobby...
Then it Called happy flying wing...
😢 Con la buena pinta que tenía.
Am I the only one who noticed he was spray painting inside over some nice tile floors lol.
