Got his set and love it. The series was ahead of its time, with pushing boundaries and touching on racism, social justice, inequality etc. Vwry good. Richard Boone was an excellent actor with many faces. Will end up watching it again after I finally finished the whole series.

One of my favorite series. It is also worth noting that Richard Boone also directed 28 episodes himself and had a certain amount of creative control over the series.

I originally bought this in the full season and half season releases, which tend to take up a lot of shelf space and cost a lot more money. The Complete Series set is much more compact and is incredibly inexpensive considering what you are getting. I also love the artwork on the box which should appeal to more modern audiences. Did you know that Rod Serling created a TV Western after the Twilight Zone? It is called "The Loner" but only lasted one season. It was released on DVD in 2016. It has boring cover art that doesn't even mention Serling on the front cover. If they had any sense they would have tried to capitalize more on Serling's connection to it and they might have sold more sets.

The 2 most famous episodes that Roddenberry wrote for the show was about a preacher named Robert April. The episodes are The Hanging of Roy Carter
and The Return of Roy Carter and a different actor plays April in the sequel. For those who do not know, when Gene came up with the idea of Star Trek he
came up with a list of names for the captain of the Enterprise and Robert April was one of those names. He would later use the name in the Star Trek
    animated episode The Counter-Clock Incident.

    HGWT was a great show.

I was fortunate to have been a kid when the TV western fad was in high gear! The continued interest in this over 60 year old TV show shows the high quality of its acting and writing. Even back in its time it was highly rated. I bought the season by season sets starting back in 2004. I remember shortly after on a Saturday afternoon I did a marathon viewing and I got up to about episode 15 when I realized Paladin had killed someone in most of the episodes! Never even thought about this when I was a kid back in the day. I then remembered groups were petitioning the govt back then to regulate the violence on television. Since you liked HGWT you would probably also like The Rifleman!

Thank you for that excellent review. I bought a box set in a used book store a couple of days ago, and my set has the same kind of packaging and same photos except that the cover photo has Paladin on his horse, and there is no slip cover. My box set is only Seasons 1-4. The clear plastic box holds 25 discs and is about half the physical size as the complete series box set that you review in the video.
I like the "Wire Paladin" text included in the menu before each episode and the "Guest cast" text information on the guest star for that episode. I agree with your 7.5 rating for the video. It's quite good, and I don't think that a remastered blu-ray would dramatically elevate the viewing experience, although it would be nice. I do wish that there were English subtitles. There are only Spanish subtitles.

IIRC, there are English subs on the second half of the series, but only on Seasons 5 and 6.

I have that release as well, and I'm on the first half of the fifth go (1961-62); it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made, and the first Western I ever really have enjoyed (most things of that genre have seemed to be so poorly made [whether it was acting, set design, pacing, you name it], such that before, I didn't know if I wanted to have anything to do with Westerns in film or television).
I then put a sawbuck down on the first go of Have Gun (1957-58) at the Wal-Mart in Simpsonville, put that first disc on, and from then, I was hooked! I finished that first one in short order, being riveted all the way, then got the second one (1958-59), and was equally captivated.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the third one anywhere, nor the second parts of the fourth and fifth (all the Wal-Mart in Simpsonville had was the first parts of the fourth and fifth). That being said, the decision was obvious for me to get this all-in-one at that Wal-Mart; it was a shade pricier for me ($50 compared to the $30 you paid), but so far, it has never been regretted at my end.
Glad you've been enjoying it as much as I have (being as you apparently got it at a Wal-Mart like I did)!

Great show. I'd also recommend the first several seasons of Rawhide if you want to see another good tv western. The last episodes were bad though.

@@aliasrose And so would I on Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958-61 on CBS), w/the late Steve McQueen as bounty hunter Josh Randall.

Are the individual seasons better than these huge cases?
