This 1973 MGB GT is equally at home on the road or track. Importantly it has the right balance of performance and practicality so remains a stand-out and exciting road car as well as a competitive Hillclimb and Sprint car and could, if desired, be easily and inexpensively further developed into a race car.
The whole car was stripped to a bare metal shell before being refitted. At this time the bumpers were removed and a Sebring conversion carried out. An FIA approved rollover bar was added along with a racing seat and harness which comes with the vehicle and is easily swopped over. The interior is currently shown in road-going trim. The wiring was also upgraded and a new loom was installed. The engine was rebuilt to sprint specification with an extensive amount of improvements and a stage two head, fast road camshaft and roller rockers all of which also happen to meet the MG Owners Club race series regulations so the car could, with very little further development be a race car if desired. Importantly though it remains a very useable and comfortable road car with the added performance of the fast road engine.
It is a competitive car in the MG Car Club Speed Series, road going class, where it has already been successful. It also makes a very good track day car with the benefit of the protection of the roll bar and the MG Car Club host track days at all the major UK circuits through “MG’s on Track.”
Adjustable shock absorbers and ventilated disc brakes have also been fitted and a long Panhard rear axle rod which was selected to deliver neutral handling in both the Sprint and Hillclimb disciplines. It also has the added benefit of overdrive on all four gears with a handy extended dashboard switch which makes changes fast and easy.
The car comes with a photographic record of the work carried out as well as an extensive history file and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
So, it is a car for all seasons really as well as a really good looking road car it can provide an entry into either track day fun or Hillclimb and Sprint competition. What’s not to like?
