    I thought of going from a Volvo XC40 to one of these about a year ago but was a bit surprised by how cheap the interior was compared to even similar Audi cars of just a few years previous and how small the instrument cluster was. As you say at this price the seats should really be electric as standard.

      Audi plastics have gone downhill recently. The whole VAG has infact. So whilst noticeably more plush than a VW ID4 compared to a 10 year old A3 it will feel lower quality if lot more modern and stylish.

    If an EV floats your boat then have at it, just don't be under any illusions that they're at all "green" or eco friendly, cos they're not. The greenest car you can drive is the one you already own.

      Yes I totally agree

    • @mikojarvinen6273
      @mikojarvinen6273 Рік тому +31

      That’s largely incorrect. The source of electricity affects the emissions most. Since the goal of green transition is fossil fuel free economy all electricity production will be at some point fossil free. In my country 87% already is. This means despite higher manufacturing emissions the life cycle emissions are much lower. They’re quickly offset by far higher efficiency of BEV technology, even if part of the electricity would be made with fossil fuels. Eventually it will be possible for manufacturers to make completely fossil emission free EVs. This combined with sustainable electricity means carbon neutral vehicles. This isn’t possible if you continue to use fossil fuels.
      In other words EVs already have in nearly every cases lower life cycle emissions than equivalent ICE cars. We’re in the beginning of all of this and it’s only going to improve. It’s important to understand the bigger picture which is fossil fuel free economy. Why? Besides the obvious environmental impact and health risks to humans. Fossil fuel dependence isn’t great from the economic or energy security perspective. Non-oil producing countries are forced to pay for an oil cartel to make their countries run. Wouldn’t you like to have the money at home instead?

    • @teentechnology9855
      @teentechnology9855 Рік тому +39

      @@mikojarvinen6273 Yeah right all true to a point, if you want to buy a new green car then a BEV or PHEV will be far greener than a diesel or petrol (in the long run), but it's best to hang on with the car you already own for as long as possible, that will be better for the environment purely because there's no emissions from construction since its already there.

    • @zackefk4317
      @zackefk4317 Рік тому +4

      @@mikojarvinen6273 While I agree to most of what you say, its important to look at all the perspectives. To get a sustainable world, it’s not only the environment that we have to keep in mind. Today a lot of batteries involve cobolt which of course has a massive impact on the social perspectives of those living in the congo. Also all the effort of making these batteries, shipping them to factories to make cars, shipping the cars to the countries etc. Electric cars aren’t nearly as good as many people think. Hybrids are even worse in this sense. With all this said I have no doubt in my mind that EVs is the way forward.

    • @mikojarvinen6273
      @mikojarvinen6273 Рік тому +2

      @@teentechnology9855 It’s long term goal anyways so most likely any daily car we have will be long gone. I also want to add that there are ways to make your old car environmentally friendly. I believe synthetic fuels will eventually become commercially viable. Biogas which is bio version of CNG (methane from waste basically) is an option that already exists. EVs are one piece of the puzzle.

    I’ve had my Q4 40 since Nov 21 and have covered 20k mikes in it. I love it- it’s a great family car with plenty space and my rwd has enough performance for my needs.
    I think the 50 model is gonna be a hard sell against its rivals at those prices. The sweet spot for the Q4 is further down the range. When I was ordering mine I was choosing between the ID4, Enyaq and Q4. The other two were slightly better equipped, but I prefer the Q4 infotainment and HVAC. The monthly costs were all within £10 of each other.
    One issue- you say there’s no park button, but in the shots before and after that statement you can see the park button😮 (5:52 and 6:12)

    I have driven an e-Tron a few times (Main dealer was decent with loan cars when my Q7 was in the shop). I would swap my Q7 in a second - for the right spec. My plan is keep my (2016) Q7 another 3 years and evaluate the electric market then. By then, I am hoping that the charging network will be better, battery costs will be lower (therefore electric cars will be comparable with current ICE models). I love the instant speed and quietness and would be OK with the range - I used a public Hyper charge point and charged from 60-80% in 20 mins and it cost around £6. This was before the fuel price debacle and back then, I worked out that even paying for only Hyper charge point usage - it would work out at half the running costs of my Q7. I think the range thing panics a lot of folk - but you would simply adjust your journeys/lifestyle to suit (I would anyway). Great video to see you doing. Yes - it's a new car, but your presentation style makes it the usual fun and informative watch.

    Interesting review and a change from your normal videos. I think your comments on range and charging miss the point about the fact that as a commuter car EVs are great, but try using them on a longer distance and the vagaries of the public charge network soon appear. Your 38 minutes to charge from 5-80% is from a fast charger and they aren't common. And new ICE cars all have stop-start, and have for sometime, which automatically shuts the engine off when stationery. Completely agree re the physical buttons! EVs are grin inducing machines for the instant acceleration. Huge fun!

The company I work for makes specialized machinery that assembles various adhesive parts onto the lead frame/flex circuit that is used for condition monitoring of the e-tron battery packs. How's that for a seamless link! :) Also, I had no idea that Sonos made branded sounds systems for car manufacturers! Just missing a turbocharged petrol engine. My Audi A3 1.5 turbo petrol engine produced 150bhp. 0 to 60 in under 8 seconds and a top speed of nearly 140mph. Plus 2 cylinders cut out at around 60mph giving it 60mpg on a run most of the time.

    • @paultasker7788
      @paultasker7788 Рік тому

      Have that engine in my golf 7 estate and agree you can get 60mpg at 60 and still over 50mpg at 70 which isn't far of the 1.6 diesel I had before in a leon. It kind of goes wrong in towns where you only get 35. Also in a heavier car it is forced to work harder making it seem rougher and less economical. I was impressed it still felt reasonably brisk with 4 adults and luggage loaded up. Plus you don't get that instant response of an EV. But so much more convenient to refuel rather than worry about poor charger infrastructure. EV seems interesting but the price is a bit too steep. That cost to swap buys a lot of fuel and to be honest probably 3 new engines as well! So the old it'll cost you a lot to maintain a 2nd hand vehicle should parts break , classic excuse to buy a newer car doesn't really work here.

    great video, good to see you covering EV too. As regards your comments on price at the end - I'm not sure many people actually buy EVs. I think the trick is to lease them via salary sacrifice because they are an almost tax-free benefit. I've got an original full-fat etron which is ostensibly a £75k car, but the net cost to me after tax is minimal - less than leasing a ssangyong tivoli. I don't know what a ssangyong tivoli is, but I know I don't want it, and I know I like sitting in 2.5 tons of luxury that accelerates like a motorbike (even if it does look a bit like a massive shoe). I wasn't an EV fan and I didn't get mine because I felt virtuous, it was purely financial. If you fall within certain tax brackets its a no-brainer really. And now I've got an EV, and a home charger, I really see no reason to go back to ICE.

    As for the car - no thanks gone off Audi's and virtually off EV;s in general and if I ever regain my license would be looking for a Hybrid.

    For me, Audi have messed up with this. Yesterday I was at a car meet and saw a beautiful 1984 Audi Quattro in stunning original condition, and it was absolutely fabulous. I remember being mesmerized by the Quattros going up Pike's Peak as a young boy, and I want today's kids to have something to hero worship in the same way. What I'd have done with the drivetrain and teck is do a modern interpretation of the Quattro; a svelte 2 door coupe with all wheel drive and the Quattro name plate on the back. Perhaps enter it into motorsport and release a road car version with a limited run to make EVs cool. Ok, it's my own personal pipedream, but it's a damn sight more desirable than yet another dreary SUV that looks exactly like every other one out there.

      "A svelte 2 door coupe"? Who would buy that in 2023? This is the age of ugly - SUVs, crossovers, "privacy" glass, ripped jeans, tattoos, hoodies, body piercing, flat faced dogs - all designed to offend the eye and all very popular. Maybe, in around twenty years time, things will reverse and fashion will once again dictate that things should look nice.

      @@saddoncarrs6963 I remember when in the early 90s Jaguar launched the XJ 220 I thought that's it, how can they top that, thankfully it was only the beginning, but to me that XJ had everything and then all the performance car companies changed up a gear and started making beautiful, if not very practical and very expensive exotic machines with engine sounds Thor would be jealous of. Of course you can build gorgeous EVs, but that's only half the story, I can hum myself, you need people like Gordon Murray and to design cars like the t50 for the best part, you'll never have an eargasm when a Tesla Plaid comes past, ok you may not see or hear many t50s let alone own one, but if you ever do it will have been worth the wait.

    Firstly, as always, these outstanding videos you produce are so much better in every way than any other mainstream car magazine publishers. Real-world advice about the vehicle’s merits and demerits rather than sticking twigs up bumper trims and moaning about some slightly scratchy plastic on the fuel cap or something - really gets on my nerves that stuff.
    As for the car, yes it’s zero emissions from the non-existent tailpipe, the carbon-heavy manufacturing processes mean that it takes years for an EV to become carbon neutral - by which point the battery will likely need replacing so the cycle near enough repeats.
    If you buy an EV for its silent, effortless and brisk driving experience then you’re on the right page. If you buy one for it’s ‘green’ credentials then you really need your head looking at.
    Awesome review as always 👍🏼👍🏼

    What do you think of vauxhall astra K 1.6 diesel 6 speed automatic (2015 - 2019) ? Is it a reliable car ? Is there any known issues in the engine or the 6 speed automatic gear ? What about the comfort and the build quality specially the wagon/estate ?

    Got to agree with you Matt, I'm not convinced with these all electric cars, as for one the thing they lose range around 2.3% each year. Thats like replacing your gas tank for a smaller one each year. I currently have a Kia Hybrid and getting around 40 miles to the gallon this seems to be a better option but only time will tell.

    • @dangreen3388
      @dangreen3388 Рік тому +1

      Depends on mileage and amount of charge cycles per year. My Model S lost around 1% every 18000 miles. I was doing 15000 a year roughly so less than 1% degradation per year. Would love to know the source for 2.3% per year. I would have to have driven my car 45000 miles one year to see 2.5% range loss.

    Thank you for your nice and informative video,
    Please when you make a review on EVs, concentrate on the millage we can get both on motorways and in the city as Tesla was declaring to give us over 300 miles with a full charge and I never achieved more than 210 from it, and my complaint to them didn’t take me anywhere .

  • @richarddyasonihc
    @richarddyasonihc Рік тому +2

    Great video, I was quite surprised that you liked it so much - but you’re right, even the naysayers can’t complain about the range, nearly 300 miles puts it beyond the city commute only category. I think those hideous huge air scoops, will soon date cars that overemphasise this feature. Price? Well, I always wonder how many years those batteries are going to last. & then what is your £62,000 car worth?

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh Рік тому

      The batteries have an 8 year warranty, and even once their efficiency (range) begins to drop, you could have a battery pack refurbishment carried out. This would cost just a fraction of replacing the whole pack..... One guy took his 10 year old Nissan Leaf to Cleveleys Electric Vehicles in Gloucestershire, for a battery pack refurb a couple of years ago. The work took 4 hours, and the cost was £500. Cleveleys posted the video of the refurb on UA-cam, so that people who thought older EV's with depleted batteries were scrap, could become better informed......

    I’ve always been a massive petrol head , classic cars , performance BMWs you name it , but after a string of poor engine reliability namely bmw 328i n20 engine blow up and Porsche boxster bore scoring , both cars I paid lots of money for and was disappointed I changed to EVs as an early adopter (very early) , back then a lot of EV charging was actually free lol and my egolf was totally reliable, I’ve now got a cupra born and apart from some software issues the cars driving abilities are fantastic, the 0-30 is just staggering and I don’t miss a petrol engine in most settings the way EVs drive really suits my driving style and I seem to get better than the stated efficiency,I love EVs and will look forward to further developments but !!!!! I also crave a rover sd1 v8 just as a hobby car 😂
