Absolutely one of my favourite tunes ,use to play the 2nds to this ,its best with a full band sp you can hear the 2nds ,it's impossible with just one piper
For this recording I use the following: Ezeedrone Drone Reeds (inverted Bass). Canmore Hybrid Zipper Bag. Ross Canister System. Ceol McCallum Blackwood with Shepherd ridge cut reed.
You're right. I made this recording only to test the microphone setup. I am playing this for the first time in 15 years and lack a little focus on the familiar exposed places in this march. Focus on the long notes and pay attention to "the snaps".
A note about Lactic acid. Hook up with a sport medicine doctor. They work with this issue all the time. In the meanwhile hydrate hydrate and stay hydrated. You have many years left in you. I am 69 and still playing yes speed is dropping a bit but so what. My oldest instructors have been in their low 90'ies.
Thank you very much for your kind praise and concern and help. Since the bagpipe is an ear instrument, you will always overexert yourself until your ear / brain hears the right thing. If you know how it should sound, there is no middle ground. I have learned that a massage gun can speed up the healing process and otherwise it can take at least half a year. And yes I want to play for the rest of my life. Like bridge, it is a healthy leisure time pleasure.
I do not quite understand what you mean. You might think it's sampled because there's a slight time lag. But it's me playing myself (since I was 12 years old) and time delay happens when you use a mixing console and multiple microphones. I later learned to compensate for the approximately 0.07 second delay.
I went a doubled checked the stance of J. D. Burgess and I think I am correct in saying that this mans stance and manner of holding the pipes is cramped. It is unappealing visually. He loos like a tyronasaurus rex with little cramped arms. This is brought about by his stubby blowstick which is also an eyesore. If you look at his elbow it is at 90 degrees. None of the great pipers play in this position.
ua-cam.com/video/bF-qi7GrMRU/v-deo.html I am a bit confused by your reasoning. This video clip was recorded in a basement on a cold winter's day and filmed from below. I have inserted a link of myself playing publicly. I hope JDB can accept it.
Don’t you think if a certain stance works for an specific player, then it is the right one to use by that specific player regardless whether they look like any of the “greats” while playing?
@@DannyBoi2112 No. His stance is making him worse than he could be. I went through the phase of playing in a similiar stance. A piper should look magnificiant, not cramped and contorted, like a lizard. I find his stance revolting. He is suffering from chanter placement insecurity syndrome. In other words, he wants the chanter up higher closer to his head because he thinks that helps his technique. Common error. I think I answered your question.
Well. The tune has its own story. It was composed by the pipe sergeant of Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band in the 70s in a 5/4 time. Which is rare and it is known for its snaps which are more difficult to play than you normally realize. I recorded this a bit for fun after a 30 year hiatus. If I had known at the time that it would become that popular, I would have focused more on the phrasing. The sole always adorns, but has become rare nowadays, now that chanters are replaced all the time.
There are no adopted rules as long as you keep a steady pressure. The most logistics is to place chanter right out in front of you for best finger control just like if you were blowing on a whistle.
Well played.
I used to play this tune when i was in the army. It is simple and beautiful.
Thanks.
Thank you very much
I find your playing to be top notch. You appear very relaxed which translate into very clean execution.

Really nice steady Tune. Which Drone and Chanter Reeds do you use?

Nice one indeed, i just like it a bit more when one lay's an accent on the first noot, of every bar

so whos actually playing these tunes?

@88Ralph1 oh I see, yeah that threw me off. How long you been playing?

Its the playing that counts not what you look like. Well done Ralph. George you probably look good when you are playing but play like shit.

Not particularly nice tune, simple finger work like the sole on the bag pipe chanter looks right.

Geometry of stance is all wrong.

@@88Ralph1 The look is bad. Right arm is at too sharp of an angle at the elbow. The blowstick also looks bad.
Stop the nitpicking please
@@DannyBoi2112 What does nitpicking hurt? The guy needs to fix it.
@@georgeallan6550 what does he need to fix? There's nothing wrong with his playing.
