When I was 16 I was haging out in San Jose with some really cool locals a couple months after Brad died. When they asked me who may favorite band was, I told them Sublime, thinking they never heard of them. The guy said, 'yeah we hung out with them, they come here a lot we drank and smoked out with them." I always thought he was bullshitting, but after seeing this today, he probably wasnt lying. Those ticos probably did chill with Sublime. Crazy stuff.
Wow this is a prime example of the pure genius that Brad and Eric were. Gone way to soon. Hard not to imagine what could’ve been. R.I.P Bradley. Gone but not forgotten 😢
so sublime went to costa rica so brad could dry out from heroin, they didnt bring instruments, they borrowed these and played a quick set, this is just a thought but i think brad picked leaving babylon by bad brains as a kind of a metaphor for leaving cali and going to costa rica to get away from the city and its temptations, i love this version sooo much
that wasnt their first trip there, my dad worked for black flys for years and used to go down to costa with them. Now theres a ton of people from so cal who live their now. I seen them all play down there as a little kid using generators for their amps and mikes
That's amazing Eddie, I didn't know that, it would be awesome to have been around in Costa Rica when they were hanging out, those guys seemed to have a lot of fun no matter where they were.
I asked Kelly Vargas about this show and all he told me was that they were there on vacation. They didn't play a whole set just a song or two and they used the other bands instruments. The power went out and they only had a construction lamp for lighting as you can see
This is my all time favorite song from sublime! Get away from the stuff on the radio (still good songs) and enter into a whole new sublime world! Raw and uncut! Their best shit is the live stuff!
Guys, i highly highly reccomend watching the "sublime - jaunitas" show, with a good sound system (not for clarity, for volume), and make sure your a bit sauced on your favorite beer, eat some tacos during the beginning, and once your stomach settles, youll be up dancing with the crowd... or.. 65" screen lol.. good times.
CR 🇨🇷 Amor y Libertad.
Sublime lived the life man, so envious of these guys. Always my favorite band, and always will be. R.I.P Bradley, and thanks to eric and bud too for the amazing life changeing music they left us
Born in Costa Rica and yet not lucky enough to have seen them live. I wish we could all go back in time to see this performance. Rest in peace Brad, love from CR!
+emarga2703 Im from costa rica and around 3 years ago i saw Miguel with perro bravo! theyve come a few times and they do some Sublime songs. Its pretty coo.
I’m always proud of my country when great artists visit us and they fall in love of Costa Rica. Brad, wherever you are, Thank You for visiting us and leave a memory through this video.
absolutely priceless....brad's voice...his passion; it all coalesces to a lyrical rhyme that only the mighty sublime can leave an indelible mark on the mind
I love this song and Brads voice which will never rise again . There is soo much beauty in this song and the way he carries his voice ( nothing theatrical ) just soulful to the fullest. That's why Sublime is on my top 5 bands of all time.
Comments like these is what makes me wonder what raised you. Music is not a competition. Soul can never be measured by skill. Sublime will remain as one of the most soulful bands in our history. Eric Wilson has been an inspiration to many bassists after his time. Bud Gaugh does excellent as a drummer, his beats are very specific. And Bradley, Well everyone knows how much soul that man had. He might have been a junkie and depressed but his music is wonderful, and will remain so for long.
this video makes me mourn, miss you bradley! ten years later since you were in Costa Rica, my country (2003) I discovered your music and it changed my life
I'm so glad this video exists. It's awesome to know Brad was a Bad Brains fan. They did it perfectly too. Drums perfect, bass line more than perfect, and Brads singin and guitar skillz are dirty as hell
este video me hace llorar, bradley te extrañamos! diez años mas tarde desde que estuviste en costa rica, mi pais(2003) descubrí tu musica y me cambio la vida VIVA COSTA RICA!! VIVA BRADLEY!!
Damn that looks like such a chill ass show. Thats the kinda concert I like. what a great secret little song by Sublime. Dude sang with so much soul within his voice. I'm leavin' this Babylon!
This is the deepest, most beautiful, and real version of this song in my opinion. Like Hendrix covering "All along the watchtower", sometimes other artists hear and cover a song the way it really should be heard. I'm here often, for this song and its energy will always be relevant
What i love the most is that he left, adventure himself, singing in english giving in into another culture with his american sauce in costa rica. freaking awesome. great show to watch down there
This is so beautiful to me.. to see bradley in my beautiful country.. to imagine what it was like .. to see sublime playing here.. to know costa rica was part of his life.. and just his music. its amazing.
the last few lines “you can be my baby, even my Irie... deyyyy are the ones who will satisfy you oh lord and they will try... try in every way lord to run your lifeee” is part of the “Bradley Phone Message”. Brad sung these lyrics and said it was gonna be a new record on a voicemail that was leaked. Check it out, but its not for the faint of heart. RIP Bradley, I hope you’ve been in a better place.
My B-Day is on May 25th. I was 29 when we lost Brad. I remember that day. I was working at IBM and they kept playing sublime on the radio. I was stoked thinking this is so cool on my b-day! When I heard the DJ breaking the bad news, I felt like I got kicked in the stomach. That same year my father, grandmother and my dog Sasha would pass away, dealing me my first experience of death with a triple whammy. (Well quadruple including Bradly) Today it's 2:50 am, I'm in my VanCave in a Dennys parking lot, using their WiFi to play along to some sublime backing tracks on guitar through a Fly 3 amp. At least the amp sounds pretty good.
Let's just take a moment and appreciate anyone who ever recorded any live sublime performance.
No words can explain how much I love this performance.
I'm right there with you. I can only listen to this one in a blue moon, my heart can barley take it
+Jordan Gee Just so much soul... :')
You already know. He's the reason I play guitar
+Lisa Foss you aint kidding
Look at all the love we've found
If this song can't make you feel good then nothing will. Brad's voice and the bass line makes the hair on your arms stand up. RIP Brad
Imagine being at a random bar in costa rico and sublime is the band. Just this one and only time. 🤯
To whoever filmed this thank you so much. this song has been my rock for years
That’s what’s UP👍
Be cool if this song didn't end.
melonhead34 I'm the coolest guy in the world.

I can really hear and feel the passion in his voice
Rest in peace you beautiful soul! Great cover!
This is my all time favorite song from sublime! Get away from the stuff on the radio (still good songs) and enter into a whole new sublime world! Raw and uncut! Their best shit is the live stuff!
Amen
Bad Brains did it first...
Yes they did!
With a Sublime twist!

Yes, that is the perfect response to this. :D
Smoking a few bowls and just listening to this on repeat is priceless.
Even listening to this track on repeat is a trip and a half
I’m always proud of my country when great artists visit us and they fall in love of Costa Rica. Brad, wherever you are, Thank You for visiting us and leave a memory through this video.

I PRAY that the Good in all things is going to Heaven... It is what has made the most sense since I coded after Fatal accident March 6th .
Even though this is a cover, I think this is as soulful as Sublime gets...easily one of the best covers ever..

This brings me to tears. It is better to burn out than to fade away. :(
