As someone who has been playing Rock Band/Guitar Hero/Clone Hero for over a decade, this was incredibly helpful for sections such as quints which I could never get a method down clean enough. Thank you so much!
Finally! A comprehensive plastic guitar tapping guide. Which is perfect because this year my Clone Hero resolution was to finally learn how to tap/elbow strum properly despite me having played Rock Band causally since RB2. I've been wanting to learn how to play some more complex songs that I like without either bombing hard sections or overworking my fretting hand, so I'm gonna be using this guide a lot now that I've found this. Been doing ok but slowly on my own but learning properly feels better.
bruh I’ve been playing for years and while ive seen a bunch of pros doing crazy stuff like this, i didn’t imagine it was possible like this. great video bro, i’ll have to try to put this into practice soon
Damn! This is probably the best guide i've ever seen. I have started practicing tapping and i already see so much improvement after just a few days! Thank you so much! You did an AWESOME job, im looking forward to see more of you on twitch and future videos!
I probably should have read some guides a long time ago on some of these patterns that you dont see much on discs. My best physical feat back in the day was being able to one hand ttfaf intro and i could do some basic alt tapping like omgwtfbbq in fury of the storm. But i recently just got into clone hero (after a lot of years, i am VERY bad now, cant even 5 star ttfaf because i suck at strumming and my hand gets real tired), but i just felt myself instantly level up a bunch watching this video. Im about to go practice this stuff, very excited for a quick boost in skill
Possibly. Though I do already have a few tutorials on certain songs which cover harder methods, and more are coming. I’d recommend checking those out if you want to learn something more difficult
this is actually so fucking helpful. i got my guitar a year ago and I only knew how to hit ascending triplets, and... that's it lmao. kinda knew zig-zags but not that well. the rest were impossible for me. hopefully this should help me a lot with playing other charts since its really hard to find modern songs made for ppl like me so I usually search (song) medium difficulty lul. yes I'm comfortable with orange tho thanks to sydneys discography. thanks a lot dude
Glad it helps! This should definitely help you with other charts. And once you’ve seen some improvement and want to try something harder I have tutorials for certain sections on Penger, EDtrio and Inhumane Forest Trail if you want to check those out :)
Im fine with doing zig zags with one hand if it's green to blue and back or red to orange and back. When it goes green to orange and back is when I mess up. And I have to take a second to long tigure out where my tapping hand goes when I do use it. Edit: I just realized i can use my pointer fret finger and just slide up and down instead of pressing each fret finger individually.
I don't need to tap, I simply hit every note individually with my fretting hand. I guess I'm just built different, idk. Jk it's incredibly impressive the notes you can play, fantastic job explaining the techniques perfectly. It really doesn't seem possible that the physical buttons could be pressed and de-pressed this quickly, but I guess getting a feeling for the button tolerance is a whole other aspect!
Having played guitar in real life, and having tapped and done stuff on a real guitar + in guitar hero, I never understood why I was missing notes when I did. Now after watching this video and discovering alt-tapping, Irealize the problem wasn't with me, but with how the game processes the notes - I wasn't lifting the middle note enough during patterns, which messed up the pattern of notes (even if on a real guitar it wouldn't have made a noticeable difference). I see now that alt-tapping helps to keep the pattern of lifted notes consistent so theres no "smudging" of the notes (i.e. having green and red pressed down and lifting before I lift yellow) Anyone feel free to chime in and tell me if I'm wrong, but if I'm understanding things correctly, this is the advantage of the alt-tapping.
Hmm I don't mean any offense but I think what you're describing is more of a skill issue. The advantage of alt tapping is mostly just halving the load on your fret and tap hand. I think the note "smudging" is just from your hand(s) not being quite fast enough to do the movement repeatedly and accurately at that speed. So, halving the load on each hand makes it much easier to do the movement accurately. Alternatively, it could be not the alt tapping itself but the tapping techniques (like the hand angle for ascending stuff) that you are getting a boon from. But that's something I wouldn't know without feedback
Getting back in, this is truly a blessing. Thanks so much for this 🙏🙏 Sidenote, does the pain in the Pinky go away with time? Haha. Triplets got it mad stiff just chilling in the air.
This is going to be incredibly helpful!!! Is this the only packs specifically for learning tap techniques? I want to learn every tech out there eventually. But its easier with a repeating pattern like these.
I put these into a Drive folder so that viewers could easily access the charts used in the video. I don’t know of any setlists made specifically for learning tap techniques but this is something I can look into and maybe try to put together myself (would take a while though). Some setlists I can recommend though are Heather’s Underchart Setlist (there’s 4 I believe), JRsightreadGH’s underchart setlists are worth checking out as well. If you want some more advanced stuff check out some of the Community Track Packs. Hope that helps 😄
Amazing! If you want to teach some more advanced stuff I recommend teaching disjoint raking, skip tapping, and maybe nados sliding/braindead sliding (even though those are sometimes a bit more spammy).
Great video! Allways wished for a tutorial like this! is there anyway you could do a similar tutorial for the fast tappingparts in ttfaf? or are there parts here that aplies too ttfaf?
Thank you! There are definitely parts in this tutorial that apply to TTFAF, and learning the stuff here should help make it easier to read and learn some of the sections there. If enough people are interested in a TTFAF tutorial, I can make one for sure 😄
i can one hand the descending trips and almost one hand the zig zags. its gonna take me some time to learn alt tapping. all i know is boomer tapping lol
I still cant zig zag. I understand the other stuff i just need to get faster but I actually need help with zig zags i can barley do 50% speed on them and with the others i can maybe do 70
Why slide anchor on the GRYO quads? I feel like it would be much easier to just reach with your pinky since hitting stuff like Quints can become inconsistent at higher speeds.
Is it possible to make a video going over things like Ascending/Descending triplets where the notes aren't together? Like BRG or ORG & vice versa? At lower speeds the in this video work but in higher speeds as you have to use a different finger to tap it really starts to fatigue the wrist after a few seconds.
I could maybe make a short video on it, but the same method still applies at faster speeds. It just takes more practice as the notes are further away from each other and you need to stretch your fingers further. If your wrist is fatigued from playing try pushing out your elbow a bit so you can angle your wrist in a healthier position, and maybe reduce the amount of pressure you’re putting on the frets when tapping. Hopefully that helps somewhat :)
Try the method I use for GRYO quads at 8:45 in the video. Slide the anchor to red to hit the BO with your fretting hand, then tap RBO with your tapping hand Thanks!
Pff amateur, everyone knows the most optimal way to play CH nowadays is to quad zig spam every Trill/asc/desc/chim/zig pattern and to Chad rake every ladder style pattern. . . . . . . . I am being immensly sarcastic.

No worries!!

Closest would probably be Acai's S4 tutorial that goes over a bunch of stuff but pretty disorganized
bruh I'll just stay casual lmaoo

I will include disjoint in a future tutorial. I can’t teach something I haven’t learned myself yet haha

How would I go about getting the notes counter in-game like shown at the top of the screen?
Now what about patterns that are HOPOs , and what about if you miss a note
why does my tap notes look diffrent, how do i get them like yours?

Can someone explain how anchors hit the notes that shit makes no sense to me
