Joey Merlino's responds to the Ace of Steaks arson investigation

- Authorities are investigating an arson at a South Philadelphia restaurant co-owned by one of the city's most notorious convicted mobsters, Joey Merlino.
Police received a 911 call just after 2 a.m. Thursday about a small fire at the location formerly known as Ace of Steaks on the 3000 block of South Broad Street.
At the scene, firefighters quickly doused the flames. When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly recovered multiple Molotov cocktails inside.
Merlino, the reputed boss of a Philadelphia crime family, posted on X in March that he was planning to open a new cheesesteak spot called Skinny Joey's Cheesesteaks - a reference to his nickname. - Розваги

He doesn’t own the building so he can’t possibly do it for insurance.
Actually even though he doesn't own the building, as a store front and Commercial tenant, he would have been responsable for any construction costs to modify the property to the construction plans and business model, technically Commercial tenant's lease a "Vanilla box" with a open floor plan, and if it wasn't a open floor plan usually the property Owner will agree to demo any previous modifications before the new tenant moves in. From the looks of the property via the videos uploaded, it was already set up as it was occupied for years "Talk of the Town" and if any of the Commercial restaurant equipment was left behind and combined with the construction cost listed on all permits.....Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and the estimated value of the walk-ins, ventilation system (Commercial hoods) ect.... that could absolutely be a costly insurance claim for JM. This is just friendly conversation and being a Commercial Electrical Inspector & also Fire Alarm and Restaurant fire supression system Inspector and contractor, I have 27 years experience in the industry and knowledge of the insurance claim side as I often write inspection reports when things like this happen.
