This video reminds me of my stent in Afghanistan, when not on patrol duty carrying the PNC-113 radio on my back I was left in charge of a few other soldiers for the humvees getting shipped over and they are completely bare as in comms gear. Radios, antennas and coax are installed on base (inside the wire). No pre-drilled routes for coax nor antenna mounts, so it’s basically formulate your own strategy and get drilling. Fortunately, the entire vehicle is metal other than the ballistic glass for windows and windshield, this helps with the ground bonding scenario between radio/antenna system. Yet, again Mr. Luke this is an awesome video and it’s nice to see someone showing their brain storming ideas and of course the do’s & don’ts. 73
Hey bbi why didnt you add a lexan wall between the + and - plates in your distribution center for safety. Lexan is brand name for the material polycarbonate. Fine tooth circular cuts like butter. I love it also
Healthy setup. Basically the same setup I have been using on the car audio side of things. Now if I can get my base set up the way I want it. Upgrading the mobile is next!! Need a good base box and then on to the mobile project.
I'm not even in the radio game and I love your videos all I've seen from you is epic quality. Over built is built better. Honestly one of the best content creators on this platform.
Ok bitc# im a fan! Good advice with the power routing on the inside of the frame 😎 im getting ready to install a mechman 400amp and run al 4/0 myself needless to say ill be studying your videos thank you for taking the time 🤘
Lot of special work, but to make things look great. Plus protect the High Amp connections. I like the way you work. And the idea behind the box your building. Gayland Grant W9AKW
Try Kopr-Shield by T&B on your next crimps. We use it on everything from #4 to 1000 MCM. Prevents oxidation and lowers resistance on surface connections and increases surface area and conductivity on crimps by filling in all the gaps between the wire strands. It ain't cheap but it's great stuff.
love the power cable ! 12V system .it's voltage drop across the wire . go big AWG . the longer the wire the more the drop . If you had to jump a dead LTO battery system like this . disconnect the LTO place a lamp or resistor inline the LTO lead + or - . than jump but use lamp to bring super cap up first . then start . let the LTO charge then connect direct. safety first ! super cap and LTO have very low internal resistance can cause very high amperage surge . 73's
It would be easier to mount your amplifier on the top of your hood and have it air cooled with a ram air scoop than run all that power wire. You might as well add a outlet to the bumper to jump start stranded vehicles. Note to BBI: DON'T GET T-BONED.
You're supposed to put the power wire up against your fuel line on the outside of the frame run it right by the catalytic converter so when it gets hot it takes care of everything
@@TWOSU_NEWS I'm not I'm in michigan and my 955 barefoot mobile can talk to a base station 25 miles across the path of an airport. I have an 8 pill fatboy for the mobile but I'm waiting for my mfj 269D to make my RG400 tuned cables. My original comment is a joke of course. I know he's going to reach more then a few miles and I know he's going to eventually put in more then 16 pill. Blowing smoke in fun, click click Boulder bob on the dark side
Just a suggestion unless you want to see the batteries or caps you know those would fit just right inside of a old battery box just cut the top off of it and dump the insides out do your suspension with your epoxy and you can even put the top back on and you're all set
I'm going to use optima agm with xs power 500f super cap with my 240a alternator built by a local shop it's built just as good as mechman this local shop has been in business since 1930
@Mr BBI I like the radio hobby but I don't have that kind of cash to spend on the hobby I only have a 1x2 I'll probably be a mud duck forever on the band
i might be jumping the gun haven't watch the whole video yet but. where can i find the high amp alternators???? i looked on line and cant find much out their that i can trust. and how did you get the mount for them.
Hey BBI first of all awesome set-up i just have a question you used 2 capacitor batteries on the truck and lithium caps to run the amps my question is can i use capacitor batteries to run my amps?
Well because If I'm correct they don't make one big enough for the particular setup. Again I might be wrong but if so hopefully someone will answer and we can both find out. But he's not the only one who doesn't run one that I know. Well good luck buddy and 73's to you.

I wish I had never watched this series. Over the years of watching you on the repair bench, it was interesting to me that someone that had as much knowledge as you have (about CB as well as Amateur Radio) would work on CB to start with, but running a Communications Business myself for 27 years, and working on Commercial equipment. with the occasional CB and Amateur equipment myself, I just blew it off thinking that money is money, and in making a living, you put your likes and dislikes behind you. But watching this series, seeing a man gifted as you are, and then putting all that work, effort, and expense into something as childish as CB, just turned me off. What a waste.
Well I appreciate one the views and two I appreciate the comment. By myself have spent 20 + years working for other people doing a large Myriad of different things. I worked in the communications industry the Telecommunications industry the fiber optic field. When I was in its infancy. I feel like I've dedicated my life to serving other people at least the first two thirds of it. This last third or otherwise what I call the back half of my life, I made a mental decision go and pursue the things that I find are fun satisfying and share knowledge as I go. I've been an amateur operator since I was 12 years old, I worked in cb shops commercial radio communication shops worked in commercial transmitter sites been a welder been a truck operator I've been a tow truck operator I've been many things. Just like yourself I'm sure you've had a lot of different experiences and walked a lot of different paths in your life. And at the end of the day you have to ask yourself only one question. Are you happy? I'm having more fun and getting to work on more things that I find interesting right now than I've ever gotten to do in my entire life. So we can say that it's been a waste or we can say it's been one hell of a ride. I love taking things that are broken and making them work again. In the entire motivation behind doing this series of videos was to help other radio operators understand how to better do an install in their vehicle. I strongly encourage you to watch the end video of this. This entire truck now has a 25,000 watt stereo system in it. Five different amateur radios. And it goes is the saying it's been said I can work from DC to light. And still be able to take my kids my wife and my dogs anywhere I want to go. I'm just happy and comfortable with what I do. And at the end of the day I'm grateful that you came and shared your thoughts with me. Be well and I hope that I don't lose you over this point of view. ;)

In ham radio we crimp for a physical connection & solder for an electrical connection. And knowing is half the battle.

How about some explosion proof conduit on the outside of the frame rail?

Is that 4/0 welding cable? What is the brand and where did you get it? Been using sky high tinned 4/0 and 2/0 and it seems much larger....

I will do that next time

Do you have any concerns with the high power RF affecting air bags etc ?
I'm curious how did you put the balancer on the lto bank when you filled it up half way with epoxy.
He did not
