- HUGE New Card Acquisition system is LIVE! Introducing Spotlight Caches! More cards for more players in MARVEL SNAP! This exciting update brings a new way to acquire cards, including brand new ones, for a larger player base. The Spotlight Cache replaces Collector's Caches and Reserves, appearing every 120 Collection Levels (CL). Each week, three featured Series 4 and 5 cards, including the new release, are guaranteed in the Spotlight Cache. If you already own a featured card, you'll receive a time-exclusive variant. This change allows players to grow their collections faster and ensures that new card releases are accessible and impactful for everyone. Additionally, the availability of cards is increased, reducing reliance on the Token Shop. Players can still target specific cards through Collector's Tokens if needed. Overall, the Spotlight Cache system aims to make card acquisition more enjoyable and diverse, promoting experimentation and deck-building in the game.

It's funny that you listed Gambit in buffs, given that the change to his effect is the single greatest nerf the card could ever get, given how people would use him.

3:22 Nerf, overall I would consider it as a buff, now you can see him in some meta decks like Sliver Surfer as last card play, the exodia deck that he was used before nerf was never good it was just fun to pull it out

@@franbelastegui It works It's a 2/6 play because you gonna destroy at least 1 power card and if enemy has many low power cards you can decide to just use better card instead of him, same thing as it is with Killmonger, if enemy has no 1 cost cards its a dead 2/5 card in this scenerio
I’m just disappointed that they still somehow don’t think bounce decks are a problem. Like HE did deserve some nerfs but how he got nerfed before kitty bounce is beyond me.

It's coming man trust me. Probably in the OTA tomorrow. HE was way more common (and annoying)
They know and nerf Bounce deck is more easy than HE, Bounce only need an OTA update with change in those card number and they can get the job done.
Agreed, HE needed nerf but I've always had more issues beating bounce than HE because of the amount of power that gets output on all lanes on t5/6.

The fact that getting a duplicate s4/s5 gives you a *random* variant of *any* card, not just of the s4/s5 you randomly pulled feels even worse
i hope you don't think this is surprising? just classical second dinner talking about upgrading system but not making this even sidegrade (like 5-6k tokens vs spotlight) but objectively worse and punishing players for using it to acquire new cards while deleting old option because you barerly get any tokens.

What makes it annoying is having played since launch, seeing removal of agency overall. Slowly replaced with more expensive, traditional gacha FOMO mobile game card acquisition. Specifically in small changes over time like:
-consistency in series drops.
-removal of gold from CL (yes, replaced in other ways such as weekend missions, but still much less overall. as someone who's almost S4 complete, gold and buying variants is really the only cool things end game, at least personally).
-neutering of token acquisition, both for free in CL, and price wise in Token Tuesdays.
-that darkhawk bundle weeks after not dropping him was straight out of a TV skit.
All of these changes ultimately sold with Spotlight Caches, which if played right gets you a few wheel spins at the card you saved for that week, assuming SD decides to spotlight it of course.
Some people may be happy with being given random S4/S5 cards they never would've had before, and cool for them as well! Maybe getting a random Master Mold or Echo forces you to play interesting decks. Yay for variety.
But I'd prefer the consistency and agency we had before. Reaching end game (S3 and ultimately S4 complete) felt fulfilling, and you could pick which of your favorite cards to buy from the shop with gold; I was personally aiming for all the baby variants.
Just crying for what we had I guess. It's a F2P game so ultimately it is what it is, most companies would do the same. But use all that gacha money to at least have stuff launch without bugs please.
TL;DR i play this game too much. sucks to have seen the consistency and agency in series drops and currency / card acquisition leave slowly for random caches and SD's variable series drops.
It gives you a variant worth 1200 gold. Why are you complaining?
@@brodoli7029I have a lot of the same feelings. I managed to get HE, Jeff, Iron Lad and Spider-Ham with tokens, so the system felt fair to me. (I only spend on Season Passes). This change seemed like SD realized that dropping new cards into Series 4 gave players a reasonable chance of pulling them out of caches, so they had to do something about that. They put all that work into the token store and now are basically abandoning it. Maybe we just need some time with this new system.
I'm so happy I was able to not update the game right away and open the non-spotlight caches. Got an extra 5k collector tokens.

Did some experimenting myself after the update and as expected, Nakia is great in surfer. You do have to take into account the interaction with shadow king though :'), I might have lost some games because of that lol. I did sub out shadow king for gambit in that Nakia surfer deck for that final turn destroy but it is a bit of a luck roll. The increased power on gambit might make it worthwhile though but not 100% sure on that yet.
I'm working on a deck that uses Sera/Surfer and Wong/Surfer with Jean and Nakia. Got alot of trial and error to go through

No I think he means it continues onto the next week if you don’t claim it. Basically you don’t have to buy 10 variants to get the reward within a weeks time. If you buy 3 one week; that progress will continue over to the next week.

I got it for" free " I had bought 10 variants over the course of the game 3 mo. I got 2k tokens & hipp Warlock varient sweet, so I think it stax I'm happy
the last thing i think Gambit still needs is less RNG. He is both RNG on what card you are losing from your hand and what card he is going to destroy. A little RNG is fine, but if they mitigated either of these two points of RNG i think he'd be absolutely excellent... Just make him always discard the rightmost card in your hand, or something.
This makes the most sense I would go as far to say you should be able to pick what card you want discarded and revert him back to his old 3 energy and 1 power.
@firstorder438 Glenn has made it pretty clear how they feel in regards to cards allowing you to "choose" or "pick"
@@Kmad03 yeah picking would break him, but simply knowing that its always the far right card or the far left, or lowest or highest cost or power... any one of those would give you at least knowledge of what you were doing.
With the caches I saved up I only got to open 2 Spotlights, but I did get both Jean and Tribunal, the two cards that I wanted. So overall pretty happy with this. Opening a mere 50 tokens from a regular cache really hurts though...
Spotlight cache was a huge letdown for me.
Took me all 4 tries to get Jean Grey but the worst part is my random series 4-5 card was one I already had, then got converted to a shitty variant.
If that's how it's intended, that really sucks along with the less Credits, tokens, and no gold in the regular caches.
From what I’ve seen it’s only worth opening 4 caches if there’s 2 cards for sure you want and don’t have was that the case for you?

It's pure rng, I didn't have any spotlight cachés saved, I leveled up and unlocked one, got the mystery s4/5 and got High Evo, so yeah it's luck and rng, for some it will be great, and for some it will be horrible
Yeah, that random s4/s5 not having duplicate protection and just becoming a random variant is gonna feel super bad most of the time.

No real interest in tribunal but I didn't have it, I had knull and expected the risk of just getting the variant.
I just didn't expect my random series 4-5 to be a card I already had, and then to change into a crossbones variant 😢
I only have two series 5 cards - High Evo which I saved to buy, and Iron Lad which I happened to get from a random cache. Guess what I pulled from the spotlight caches, Iron Lad again which turned into a pretty meh variant for Viper. :(
I'm curious about Nakia combos with Valkyrie, since Valk will set everyone to 3.
Unless you're using something Nakia buffed to play after Valk, which sure?
Cerebro is another interesting one for combos.
Absolutely love the Nakia change. She got no play and now she is actually really solid. Destroy benefits the most, but even a deck like move will be great as well. I put her in my Galactus deck to buff Nimrod & Galactus and she feels good. Excited to try her in Surfer decks as well.
I just swapped her in for Dazzler in my Sera Surfer deck and it seems like a lot more consistent power. Great buff for Brood.
I like the Hulks changes. It now becomes a mind game with the opponent whether I have my Hulk and how big he actually is. Plus I think it makes lockdown even stronger, you don’t have to feel bad playing Daredevil and storm on curve if you don’t have him in hand.
The point is less consistency, its the same strength as the card combo you listed.
I can play turn one in a an Evo deck, doesn't mean I have Hulk or not, I find Misty more impactful
Your 20 power Hulk will be nerfed more just wait :) no brain deck builder.

So I optimized my caches with the chart before updating. Pulled snow guard pre update, then in 3 spotlight caches I got Living Tri, Knull Varient, and Silk (from random 4/5 series). So far so good

Selling gambit change as a buff seems wild, nerfed in his ability to destroy and hurting exodia /negative builds.
100%. Really weird to say this is anything other than a gigantic nerf to a card that already wasn’t seeing play.

Exodia is bad, you only playing this for fun and loosing plenty of games, but now you can use him in Silver Surfer meta deck as turn 6 suprise play for 2 cost with Sera and 5 power with Surfer + destroy random enemy card making his value even bigger, that's why its a buff

I feel like the gambit change just killed the only deck gambit was played in. No one played sword breaker because he was too inconsistent so why would anyone play gambit. Especially when he hits the 1-1 spiderham who already hammed your apoc.
I bought Jean with Tokens, was gonna aim for Echo, just so I can “safely” play Wong-Gambit combo 😢

Hey do you know if the progress on the daily premium variant will continue to next week since its say "only one a week" or do you have to complete the bar in the week?
They lock changes few weeks before release, and with their vacation, these patch notes were likely written before even Conquest released :)
Solid card acquisition, I saved 44 for this and got 13 new cards not counting ones I had from getting their variants from other means I got 11.

Mobile game whale here, I have been playing Marvel Snap since the Zabu season and have loved the game It has felt way less pay to win and cash grabby than many other mobile games I’ve played but spotlight caches having the chance to give you duplicate cards and the weekly reward for buying a large amount of variants have felt like steps in the wrong direction
the duplicate thing is really awful, but the variant shop reward doesnt bother me since it's expensive to meet the condition and the rewards dont worth it all, you cant even buy a random series 3. its just a little boost for a thing people who like buying variants would do anyway.
I spent a total of $30 on different season passes. Started Zabu season too and I pretty much reach infinity up to 118-120 and currently at collection level 3k. You really don’t need to spend that much money to be competitive
@@henrylam92 personally I’m a collector at heart and like to get my hands on every new card I don’t want to see Snap become a gatcha game where I’d have to spend tons to be able to play with all of the cards

Would like to hear some advise on spotlight caches. First off I’m completely free 2 play. I don’t have any of the week 1 cards and think it would be cool to get Jean Grey and Knull. For week 2 I really want echo, but I do already have iron lad. Pretty indifferent about Kang but wouldn’t mind getting him. For week 3 I’ve been trying to get darkhawk for months but I do already have high evo. Finally for week 4, I have thanos and master mold already but mirage seems pretty cool. I currently have 5 unopened spotlight caches and was wondering what your thoughts are.
They said people expected the HE changes to be more harsh and they are monitoring the deck to see if more changes are warranted (like cyclops)

Funny that they buffed a card I recently listed among my most hated in Gambit, but I'm happy that it's limited to cards in hand now. I assume that was always the intended effect based on the card text. Another month, another patch with no change to Quake. It'll come one day, right?

I'm glad Valkyrie now acts as a legitimate counter to Evolved Hulk.
Theres been a few annoying changes too.
Silver Surfer no longer interacts with Sabretooth if he was previously destroyed (Reducing his cost to 0).
Luckily, Falcon doesnt register Hit Monkey as a 1 cost when bounced by Beast but I have to wonder why unless Sabretooths change was unintended

I think they left bounce because of the new Loki themed cards scheduled in July. Mobius prevents opponent's card from getting cost discounts.
Got Jean in my first spotlight cache
shoulda just changed the hulk to +1 and kept everything else the same. i also agree with you on theres a lot more 'core mechanics' that needed some changing/buffing i.e. strong guy. however its the summer, sd just got off break, and being on the side of building tech the past 15 years, A LOT goes in behind the scenes and time and priorities are always of the essence. im sure they will do these things in time, we as consumers can't always want everything all at once.

Just tried Nakia and Beast in a Surfer build. Feels too greedy, but definitely need to try Gambit in a Modok Discard deck and see how he feels

Finding Jean Grey with Goose is stupid good - completely locked me out of being about to play cards. While I only had 4,5,6 cost cards in my hand by turn 3. I dont think 2 cards should be able to win games by themselves. In this situation Enchantress can't even save you. I feel like this needs to be looked at..... maybe they need to add a condition to Jean Grey that says other location lockdown affects are in active in this lane - like storm, prof x, goose - like Jean disables those affects.... I dont know.. something like that

The developers actually acknowledged that some felt they were not harsh ENOUGH to High Evo. And so they would consider more nerfs. Not taking them away.

I got screwed out of my spotlight cache. damn thing didnt change on mobile despite there being no update option (still none for me at this time) opened the caches not knowing what it would look like...sigh...worked fine on pc but too late now
Cyclops needed a nerf. Maybe to -1 Power to two opponents cards (Once) and that was it.

i accidentally claimed a cache last night since i thought the updates were coming out but they didnt and it sucks to see that today it was a spotlight cache too so screw me but atleast i have time to save till next weeks
It baffles me that they didn't nerf cyclops because he's the most busted of the high Evo cards. But the devs just like nerfing popular cards and not broken ones.

Wasn't the fourth "random" cache supposed to be a Series 4/5 card from the Spotlight Caches? Because I got a Galactus chibi variant and I believe it was supposed to be the Knull variant or a new card. I feel ripped off.
4th one was a random series 4/5 card (any that exist), and if it pulls a card you already have (which it shows when you do) then it unfortunately gives you a different random variant, not a variant of that duplicate card you drew, kinda sucks

After trying buffed Gambit he actually won't discard a card from your hand if there's not a card to destroy which is really nice
Interesting. I guess it's a super edge case, but if you have a chance to play him out early just for the stats (say tinker's workshop on 2 gives you 3 energy and your opponent has nothing on the board yet) then it might be useful.

I actually have Knull and funnily I feel like the Variant is worth it

I would definetely say wait.
Random Pool 4/5 card is not duplicate protected so if you have some 4/5 cards you will probably get a random skin for a random card instead of new 4/5 card.
