This Opera has extraordinary music, almost modern. The only thing I don't like about it is that it ends as such a cruel joke, when you have grown to rather like Platee. I thought the TV studio, presenting reality TV shows, was a really good setup, and moved the long Prologue along. This Platee was really endearing, (and one of the best looking ones I've seen). All the voices were good. The La Folie scene was brilliant, the singing as well as the dancing and choreography. This was a great production!
This is just so brilliant! Many many thanks to OperaVision for making this fabulous production available. Paul Agnew's work as music director absolutely wins my heart - it is his interpretation of Rameau's music that made it a pure magic and joy. And stage direction by Louise Miller makes it a clear win over the others I've seen so far - brava!
I think this was a total success! Setting it in the vacuous world of current TV so-called reality, was sheer genius given the original daft 'plot' ... and the constant manic, OTT movement and gags were perfect! Paul Agnew, a highly experienced baroque singer and now conductor, with a hilarious Platée performance from the past, also on YT, drove the performance wonderfully with an amazing, fizzing baroque energy from the band. Costumes, stage design, props and video were ideal. The singers and dancers were all excellent but for a combination of simply superb baroque artistry, looks, acting and even impressive gymnastics, Samuel Boden was an absolute star.
@@TheNarcotricks It's as ridiculous as all of these operas! That's not a criticism of this opera in the slightest but a warning to anyone whom thinks it might make sense!
Who else but the Swamp Queen herself could better conduct this opera ❤ Paul Agnew knows Platee inside out, I dare say he created today's version of this character. I find the ending most interesting. In comparison to Minkowski's version, where the finale was full of passionate anger from the nymph, the versions conducted by Agnew tend to have a sadness in them. It makes me feel compassion towards Platee, rather than ridicule. She may be vain and shallow, but no one deserves this degree of humiliation, especially from much more powerful beings.
I do hope the costume people had as much fun as this looked. The show is definitely problematic to try to put on today, but I think putting it in the setting of a reality dating show is the perfect level of tasteless vanity for modern entertainment's morality. If I were to give any criticism: Samuel Boden in drag still looks great as an "ugly" water nymph 😆
it’s very unfortunate because this opera has some of the best music rameau wrote. the libretto surely can’t change, so it’s just difficult to thread the needle, like you say.
Having immensely enjoyed the Paris performance of about 20 years ago, which starred the conductor in this (Garsington) performance Paul Agnew as Platee, I find the costumes and sets in this present production just a little bit disappointing. That old performance was so spectacular!

Formidable,merci .
Garsington stages are always worthy for watching. That's the truth. Thanks for sharing.👍
wonderful production.
I loved the set up but the voices have truly impressed me. ❤

Find out more about the plot, it is not daft at all

Brilliant thanks to all involved
I saw it live. What a hoot!

Well ... with a body like he has ... I'm sure he'll be OK about that!

Briliant !
Rameau, mon amour ♥!
Holly Teague was so good ❤
Amazing production Bravo! Our 21st century preoccupation with celebrities, media and gossip, and story . Olympus TV. 😛
Brilliant 👏

La folie m quedó a dever
Mon moment préféré n'est pas l'orage, ni la scène de la folie mais "Et bon, bon, bon" je trouve ce moment irrésistible.
Pretty ❤

That’s not really a critical response is it? Just someone shouting stuff.
I agree, bad production
