1992 was apparently a great year for Tony Williams. His music and his quintet was making its marks on the jazz scene. Many great contemporary drummers (Vinnie Colaiuta and Cindy Blackman to name two giants) confessed to his greatness. That makes it so sad that he was to pass away less than 5 years later, due to heart problems during an operation of his gall bladder. RIP, Tony
Thankyou, for adding this Fantastic ,beyond words show. Imagine being there .What a Band of Brothers here .Tony ,is the abstract Hero ,of musical percussion and DRUMS ....Live on Tony....
There is a six CD box set out there of the Miles Quintet of the mid 60s (basically, this band). This video is watching the video track of that CD set...what a treat. Thanks for the post.
Eh? Almost 30 years ahead, I wouldn’t say ”basically, this band”. Without Miles but also with unbelievably highly developed players, through some extremely transformational periods in jazz and its many branches. Wallace Roney (RIP) keep the flame and he seems to fire Tony up quite some!!!
The usual incompetent European 90s cameramen. Missing all Tony’s action, trying to be artistic. It’s so frustrating I can’t even watch. He’s literally making drum history and I’m staring at Roneys fingernails.
Fabolous line up 🔥
Tony Williams!! Genius

Sounds like Wayne was having equipment issues...
