    I learned the pipe command the hard way. Wish someone taught me that too. I use it every time I am in the CLI these days, can't live without it.

    Hey Chuck,I just found you.I'm going through a programming bachelor on college and I cant find programming interesting. But there is a course which I'm taking on college and it let us students to play with Cisco routers and switches. We have labs on VLAN/inter-vlan,RIP,RIPnG,SLAAC,static,NAT,PAT,SPAN,static and default routing,DHCPv4 and DHCPv6 and it was really fun doing them and I found myself really enjoing the CLI interface. So in 2018 I will start with a private school that teaches for CCENT/CCNA,MCSA for 2016server,SQL,exchange and wordpress.
    In the last 7months i've been reading up on cisco technologies and routing concepts besides school, and in that time I have decided to buy myself a Cisco router and a Cisco smart switch which have a console port so I can have fun experiementing and getting to know the cli a lot better. its still very entry level but I dont have much money since im in college now.
    I really enjoy your videos on cisco certs tips and tricks and encouragements. I'm also going to buy a Cisco lab equipment for CCENT and CCNA next year so I can set up different labs home besides on school.
    I'm going to start with CCT cert before I enroll on that networking class that lasts for 1year.
    I'm also going to try and build my network infrastructure based on cisco routers and cisco switches,going first for a entry level smart switch, then a L3 fully managed switch so I can try with inter-vlan,uplink connections,STP among other things. I will then set up the SG300 switch as root switch and then the smart switch as SW1. then hopefully I will get some cisco catalyst switches for free since they are planning on upgrade their cisco switches.
    Should I even go for the CCT cert?

    • @curtiseisenbeis2484
      @curtiseisenbeis2484 6 років тому

      October 27th, it was a vary tricky test, I took the 3 exams and passed it and I'm happy. I feel like that was kind of a weird test though. They definitely DID NOT stay on the topic of Windows Server 2012. Anyone who is going to take it, I would say that the hardest one is the 70-411. I failed it the first time with a 690, and I got hit off line during the test taking. Pearson realized that I probably would have passed if the internet would have gone down 4 times during the exam. So I got a free test retake. Then I got a 720, hopped right into 70-412 the same day and passed with a 760.

    Great video. I'm sheduled for the icnd2 this summer. Total newb. But as much as I'm getting familiar with the configuration and protocols. This is what I'm missing in life. I have all the show commands from the Pearson certification books written in a small journal. But they don't include any really good pipe commands like this. Any good reference's for something like that?

    Hey chuck what is your opinion on SDN and network programmability. Will we see the end of the CLI? Will we have to adapt and learn scripting? Python, C+, and other languages? Just want your opinion.
    I just passed my CCNA Exam this past weekend. Took the CCENT first 100-105 then the 200-105. I am considering studying for my CCNP which I planned to obtain next year. Should I do programming? Or stay on track with the CCNP. Will Cisco also start re defining their certifications to include some information on coding and programmability?
    Sincerely,
    A concerned future network engineer lol

    • @NetworkChuck
      @NetworkChuck  6 років тому +2

      First, congrats on passing the CCNA!!! That's awesome!!!
      CLI will be around and you need to know it. But, you will start to see scripting creep in more and more. You need the networking knowledge and that will always be valuable but scripting is the future.
      Get the CCNP then start looking at coding. If you have the time, do both. Study scripting a little each week.
      Yes, its starting to edge it's way into Cisco's exam topics. I'm expecting the next iteration of exams to have a lot more.

      I'm trying to set up a network with three routers and three switches with two separate servers in DNS DHCP in a separate network and the other behind the router there are two switches behind the working computers, desktops and laptops. Sorry, I can not add an image here but setting up switches is a headache. (I think good Switch setup video and tagged, untagged and trunk port...when and for what) You explain very well.

    Any advice on first tech support job interview Chuck?

    • @NetworkChuck
      @NetworkChuck  6 років тому +2

      1. Push customer service as your most valuable skillset.
      2. Have a lot of the answers to the common questions locked and loaded. Like, "Name a time where you had to deal with an irate customer and how did you handle it?" or "Describe a technical issue you've had to resolve and what were the steps taken?"
      3. Be willing to admit when you don't know something but demonstrate how you would obtain the information, like Google it or ask for help. They want to know your ability to adapt and be a team player.
      Good luck!

    • @NetworkChuck

      Right now, and in the foreseeable future, coding will be limited to scripting. You won't be writing applications but you will start to create scripts to automate tasks and configuration.

    • @Xotty
      @Xotty 6 років тому

      But that is what my issue is. How can I get a job without experience? How to start? Is it a good idea to get a 1st line role and then later on look for opportunity?

    • @CranberryBadger
      @CranberryBadger 6 років тому

      1st line, NOC anything that gets you network "exposure". Forget looking at network engineer jobs yet, very few and far between are entry level. I'm a NOC, I have one qualification networking wise, however, I spend my down time at work building our entire network myself on virtual software like GNS3 or Packet Tracer etc. I'm gaining experience in not just static routing but also multi-casting which is quite rare seen as it's mostly video streaming ( I work for a large sport streaming company) . This looks great on my CV and I intend to grab my CCNP to bolster this experience I've built up. Once you've got this locked down, mix it up with the big dogs the "network engineers".

    • @Xotty
      @Xotty 6 років тому

      Many thanks for your advises. I have been working in 1st/2nd line but moved to UK and here I could not find similar job. So there is a big gap in my employment history now but luckily yesterday I had an interview and got a 1st line job. They said that later on there would be opportunity to position myself towards different areas like networking. First little step done :) Did you put it into your CV that you did all that kind of home labs and built different kind of networks?
