Baby Might Be Teething, We Still Get No Sleep & Grillin' At Night! | Home Vlog

  • In today's home vlog we talk about our sleep schedule with a newborn and how it is constantly changing. We also talk about how we think Jackson is starting to teethe based on the fact that he is starting to chew on anything he can get his hands on, including mom's finger! We film as much as possible throughout the day but as usual caring for a newborn is unpredictable and fun and we end up having to do most of our filming and cooking while he is asleep for the night at 8pm. We did get a chance to open the pool from winter as we believe the cool weather is done for here in Florida and we should be able to swim in the pool soon! I had a hard time installing the sun sails that we took down in preparation for the last hurricane that came through, and that was harder than I thought it would be. Thanks for hanging out at home with us today! Be sure to join us for another new video tomorrow!

    The similarities between our stories is absolutely uncanny. I've been meaning to leave a comment for months! My husband and I were both born in '85, met in high school (he was on the swim team), we dated for around 5 years, got married in '09, and struggled with getting pregnant (I have endometriosis and the surgeon said my ovaries are deteriorating from the scarring). Last year (2019) in January, we officially "gave up" and started planning a trip to Walt Disney World to make ourselves feel better and have something to look forward to. We started watching UA-cam videos-- which is how we found you! I had been watching every day and to our great surprise, we found out we were miraculously pregnant on April 1st with a due date of 12/3/19. We saw the video of you two announcing your miraculous pregnancy and I was absolutely gobsmacked. It was a great joy to follow along in your pregnancy, because you were exactly one week ahead of me. When you had your dating anniversary video, and described how you met and developed a relationship, I started to tell my husband that we have twins in Florida! Another incredible coincidence when you delivered your sweet baby and let everyone know his name is Jackson. Want to guess what we also had decided our son's name was going to be?!?! Great minds think alike. Anyway, love that we have so many similarities and I find it a great joy to follow along with your baby's progress, as we are just a week behind (he was born 12/5/19) and find that we have many of the same developments happening at the same time. Congratulations and I wish you all the best!

    At this age, Jackson’s neural connection between his brain and his mouth is quite strong. The connection with his hands is not as developed yet. In a way his brain is not yet able to recognize that his hands belong to him.

      Jackson is learning more and more each day as his brain is still developing so this is normal for him to chew stuff as this could be sensory it also could be teeth you will notice as he will get upset if he puts somthing in his mouth as he tries to chew as it can be painful for him. Hope this helps and your doing both fantastic with him 😊

      Baby's at this sensorimotor stage put things in their mouth. Not to say, he may also be gearing up for teeth. But it's amazing to see developmental psychology come to life in front of our eyes. He cant recognize his hands or self just yet, you're absolutely right, since hes developing stuff like object permanence (I believe?). Just like at this stage, if you play peekaboo, they cant recognize you're still there. They think you disappear and reappear, causing the reactions! Just some fun facts.
      Source: I have a degree in psychology and going to grad school 👌 however, I only have a limited knowledge of developmental psych, since I only took 3 classes and worked with a developmental professor.

  • @ashkat5525
    @ashkat5525 4 роки тому +71

    I think it’s more of a sensory development than teething at his age. My little guy found his hands at that age and was mad if he didn’t have something constantly in his mouth. Teething usually has other symptoms. Y’all are doing a great job with the little man! Don’t get discouraged about the lack of sleep. It will pass eventually. ☺️

    • @LyzieCHU
      @LyzieCHU 4 роки тому +3

      Yup! Ashkat is right. Normally there's a fever involved or not eating. Wait till he finds his feet. He's gonna want them constantly in his mouth.

    • @haleychristine120
      @haleychristine120 4 роки тому

      i don’t actually think it’s a sensory thing at all. your child was in the first stage of psychosexual development, the oral stage. he found pleasure in having things in his mouth. exploring things through his mouth. i encourage you to look up freud’s psychosexual stages. i don’t know how old your child is now, but it might explain or prepare you for what has/is to come. my advice is to not stop any of the behavior you see in any of the stages. parents tend to want to stop the phallic stage immediately and you’ll see why, but just let him explore because it could mess with his sexual development. and yes, there is sexual development at a young age. don’t panic. it’s completely normal and necessary.

    Grasp is a developmental skill that usually starts developing around 3 months, not really something you can teach. Also, could be teething but could also just be oral exploration, they discover tastes, texture etc by "mouthing" objects.

    Most of my baby products-stroller, Ergobaby, pack n play,etc- have come with postcards you mail in to register your products. You will be notified if there is a recall.
    Also, I recommend getting an O ball if you don't already have one. That was the easiest thing for my baby to grab and shake.

      Yes to this! Just register all your products using the included postcard. Registering is mainly to be notified if your product has been recalled. It was really helpful for me when the rock n play was recalled. I got a notification right away and sending it back for a refund was easy because they already knew my info and the purchase info.

    I know every baby is different but just a little bit of advice on what I found works for me and my baby...
    naps don’t have to be in dark rooms. My baby naps in a bright room so she can be used to going asleep with brightness.
    My baby’s bedtime was also 8pm when she was around Jackson’s age and I eventually found that to be way to late. She was just so overtired and that’s why she woke up so frequently during the night. Now she’s a bit older we do dinner at 5:30pm. Bath at 6:15pm asleep by 7. She is so much happier as she isn’t so overtired!
    But you will figure out whatever works for you guys. You’re doing such an amazing job xx

      I wrote that to them when he was a newborn but no they did not take that advice. Best advice I’ve ever gotten was to nap when baby naps.

    I think ya’ll should just keep the tree up and just change the decor on it to represent a holiday or season through out the year.

    Tiny Jackson looks sooo good! He has such good muscle control. So healthy! The pincer grip is generally at about 12 months. Holding toys will come about four to five months maybe. He will enjoy different toys regularly, so change them out sometimes. He’s a smart baby so he likes new and different experiences. Such great parents, y’all!

    The way he grabs your finger is actually a reflex, so he’s not really grabbing your finger (or I should say that he’s not doing it intentionally). He’ll start grabbing things later :)

    After the first one, I found the baby carrier and when I had the second baby I wore her constantly. I was able to load dishes, do laundry, and grocery shop hands free. I could nurse her in the carrier too. the best thing ever for me.

    Jackson is such a cutie. It is lovely to see how hands on Tim is. It is lovely. There is always a point in the day when you have to try and keep them awake as it effects them sleeping at night. It is hard to know what to do for the best. X

    Recalls are very scary and our brand new crib had a recall on it two weeks after we bought it. Something to do with the screws that were in it. We contacted the company and they sent us new screws. Recalls come out on baby items every month or so , sometimes it’s major and sometimes it’s small. (Better safe than sorry) all your baby items (crib , swing , stroller , etc..) will come with little registration card that you fill out and mail in and they will actually contact you if there is a recall and work with you to get it replaced or send you a new part. If you don’t have those papers still , you can just goggle the make and model of what ever item you are wanting to check on and it you can just find out if it’s recalled and what was recalled on the item. Almost all companies will you send you replacement parts for free.

    Don't worry guys, you aren't alone time gets away from us all. My daughter graduated college a couple of years ago. Yeah, I still haven't put the photos in the specialty frame I purchased that year. They are in my office just waiting....😄

      I don’t know why you would give this advice to a nursing mother, comments like this are why breastfeeding rates are so low now :(, babies waking up at night is completely NORMAL and protects them from SIDS.
