Why is the US version so different? I appreciate the higher difficulty actually, but I was always so peeved about EVERYTHING resetting when you start the game back up. It's no small feat to collect enough gems to upgrade your max HP and I remember having like 8 health after a long play session. Of course the next time I load up my game, all of that is gone. As someone who gets a little too much enjoyment out of seeing my health meter get bigger, that was like Super Mario Bros 2 all over again.
Oh when I was younger I thought I was just being dumb not knowing how to save the game! This and Chameleon Twist 2, I always ended up having to start from the beginning. And it was difficult enough for me at like five and six years old, I rarely got past the third level lol, and I also tried to collect everything. Like I would play for two hours and not even be through a fifth of the game and then I'd stop playing and it would all be gone. Which was a bummer because I liked the parts of the game I could play.
Excellent run! Boost them corners, yo. For a while there, I was doubting I'd ever played this game before; can't believe how much of it I'd forgotten. Darn near all of it, in fact! ...Except for the salt bombs. Those really stood out to me. I mean, what other game arms you with bombs whose sole function is to explode into pure sodium?
Bommerman Hero is one of my favorite worst games, it crashing half way through the run is so on brand for this wonky game XD The couch and announcer back and forth was hilarious

I never knew how much they changed the US version. That explains why my young self could never beat it.

Probably rental fears, they increased difficulty of a lot of games or removed password / saves
I really want one of those Ape Escape helmets in the back...

We need a new bomberman game!!
I would love a modern successor to Bomberman 64 instead of how they keep releasing new traditional Bomberman games
my favorites were the gamecube era ones would love more with that pokemon esque animal helper buffs
I loved this game when I was a kid, never beat it though, I don't know if it was a good game or not but I liked it.
