In this tutorial, I introduce a new feature in the current Beta version of Photoshop that will allow you to automatically remove power lines and automatically mask people in a scene. I’ve started using the remove power lines function and it helps a lot. I’ve found it’s best to use a new layer as it selects similar horizontal objects such as handrails. So having a separate layer allows you to delete edits in specific areas
Hi Anthony and thanks for this great and very honest video tutorial. I have done a bit of experimenting with the new "REMOVE DISTRACTIONS" feature, but with limited success. When there aren't too many people to remove and they are all fairly obvious, the feature works OK. However I have had a few images with lots of people and the "REMOVE DISTRACTIONS" just did not cope - it got hung up for about 2 or 3 minutes, then just crashed!
Thanks! This beta feature is still a good starting point if the photo is important to you. I haven't tried it yet, but maybe, in some cases, removing one person at a time may improve the result - fewer things for the AI to think about. Maybe cloning a separation between the person & adjacent objects may make a cleaner removal as it does with the patch tool.
I used the wires and cables removal on some wire fencing that was behind a cat. It actually did a pretty decent job, except for the part behind the cat itself. I ended up removing it manually in the end. But I was rather impressed that it saw the fence as "wires."
I've found I've wasted a lot of time testing these AI features. Before AI I'd consider the photo unusable due to the distractions. But AI marketing persuaded me to give it a try and while it does make simple removals faster, I found myself spending considerable time trying to fix the bit that AI mangled. To me there is a lot of joy and fulfilment capturing a 5-star photo in camera. Using editing tools to enhance or add an artistic quality is also fulfilling, however using editing to make a marginal photo better, well it's still a marginal photo in my creative heart. Of course, if it is a commercial shoot and it saves time and resources, then fine, edit the crap out of it, lol.
Got really excited when I saw this posting ... I had a site that I have been attempting to photograph but it has lots of power lines fin the shot rom the angle I thought best ... BUT PS (beta) fails miserably ... just absolute garbage ... I did send info to Adobe ... we'll see how this improves ...
Well ... I reloaded PS(beta) and did get it to work ... don't understand since it was the same release I previously installed. BUT really GREAT performance on the challenging wires in the shots I tried ... this rescues the better composition of the particular shot I was aiming for ... 🙂
Was this removed from the Beta version? I just installed it now. I click on the bandaid (or try j), but don't see it as an option. When I click on updates and go to Creative Cloud, the Beta version does not show up as an app that needs updating either.
Got the latest version of Beta, watched your video, and tried the new feature for power lines................fails every time, all I get is a bunch of black blobs scattered all over the image...........and now the Remove tool replaces the selected area with a patchwork of colors like a kid gone wild with water colors! No idea why!
Hi Anthony, I only have the basic version of Ps & Lr but beta version are available to me, I know I shouldn't but I use the beta all the time for the new features, the cable remove works very quickly on my widows pc, just 15 sec.... The people remove better in Gen fill in my view. I don't understand why adobe are trying to think up more & more ways of doing the same job....Anyway great video Anthony, I do watch yours each week..thank you. Colin Devon uk...

Your tutorials are just the best! I recommend them to all my Photographic Club members. Thanks You.
Can't tell you how many hours I've spent removing wires, this is fantastic! Thanks!
Thank you very much, great info.👍
I'll wait for the final version, but the power line function will be really useful.

Thanks Anthony really appreciate your content. Mike, Northern Ireland👍🍻
Wow, it is really good. By the way, what Mac are you using? On my M2 Mac Studio Ultra, it is almost instant; the delay is momentary.

Thank you for demonstrating this! I easily removed some annoying wires as well as a giant cell phone tower that was growing out of someone's head.
I noticed it also removed the nose landing gear on the shuttle when removing the people. Still an excellent program.
Thanks Anthony. With the carriage shot, did you try minus brush and paint over axel/hub or whatever it was ? And, did that not work ? Thanks.
Thanks for the review - I just hate cloning out wires by hand! 🙂

Seems to me a useful tool for quick smartphone images that are small enough that the accuracy is not important but the convenience is desired.
There should be a “Remove the Wind Turbines” tool ! They’ve seriously destroyed the natural beauty of the landscape 😢 great video Anthony
Will it get rid of Starlink satellite trails on astronomy shots?

Seriously? What we learned was that the "Remove Distractions" tool really isn't working in most cases. Keep up the good work.
Luminar Neo has had this for years
I've tried it but my beta PS crashed whenever I tried. Is it necessary to change some preferences in PS beta?

I downloaded the photoshop beta program for PC and i'm not seeing most of what your showing us when i follow your video. No power line removal.

So for the Ohio state image, once the people are gone can't you do it again since the guard rails become the distraction.
Your selection needs to be more precise, and bit less selected at once. Generative model dependant
unusable
Yeah, this is great except you are using Adobe products which at this point you are their slave. By signing their TOS they OWN YOUR WORK .. yep.
