Whether a Q2 is worth the asking money or not is another matter, but as an old timer, I remember that a Leica owner only used to have a one or at the most two lenses to go with the M cameras. This meant that the photographer and the camera/lens combination had a special synergy, which resulted in maximising the chance to produce a good photograph. The concentration was on taking good photos. Nowadays, well what can I say? There are more lenses and camera models introduced in the same camera lmodel than people would care to remember. The results are all out there to see. Too much faffing around with lenses, zooms, filters, menus, etc etc. Lets hope this Q2 helps you find your direction in photogarphy.
I would completely agree! I had choice paralysis with all of my lenses in the Q2 has helped me slow down, and just exactly as you described it, have a good mind connection and synergy with my camera.
Well said, sir.
I treated myself to a Q2 for Christmas 2022, and 12 months later realized I had completed an OCOLOY (one camera, one lens, one year). Now well into another. This video pretty much explains it.
Had my Q2 for a while now absolutely love the thing, it's featured in the majority of my recent videos I'm finding it difficult to put down. I have the Q as well to be honest if the Q was weather sealed I'd probably sell the Q2 as 24MP on the Q is plenty for my needs. You're bang on about an emotional connection with gear, I shoot canon 1dx at work all day it's faultless never lets me down. but I never feel overly excited to pick it up the Q series however that's a whole other thing. Great photos one here Jonny. Liked and subbed mate cheers
Greatly enjoyed your video, the landscape shots really capture the atmosphere beautifully. It's refreshing hearing a narrative that's so sincere with no blatant sales pitch on the agenda. Just an honest, 'straight from the heart' appraisal, describing your 'bonding' with a camera. Perfect for those who seek a down to earth reaction - that's real and valid. Thank you.
Wow thank you so much. This comment means a lot - I’ve always doubted myself with these kinds of videos. Really appreciate it
@@JonnyRoams You're most welcome. Particularly impressed with the honesty that shines through so strongly. No artifice , no spin, no hype , just a sincere delivery, backed up with examples in a toatally convincing way. Establishing 'credibility' is key in gaining the confidence and trust of any camera enthusiast /online follower. Do please continue with your insightful postings. Well worth a listen. Thank you.
Those photos turned out amazing! Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts Jonny! ☺️ also loving that hat 😅
Great info dude, Iceland looked like stellar time
I agree, my sony and canon bodies are my work tools. My Leica is my,..................personal camera, my life camera for documenting day to day life. Something the other cameras just cant do.
Well said
Love when mountain daddy graces my UA-cam feed
Great review! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve been using a Q2 at work for two years and adore it. Hoping to buy a used Q2 or Q3 for personal use. In the near future.
Great review. I am close to pulling the trigger on a Q3.
Your photos look superb. Bought the Q2 recently myself. Loving it but haven’t got to use it too much yet but I’m away on a 3 weeks holiday soon and will use it everyday.
Thank you! That’s awesome to hear!
Great review thanks 🙏 I just bought a used Q2. Would be great if you talked a bit about settings and your approach to getting some of those great photos 🙏
Thanks so much. I have another video in the works going over just that so stay tuned!
Emotional connection is a very real thing. As a Fuji shooter, my X-Pro2 (my poor man's Leica) is the first camera I'll reach for - paired with an 18mm (27(ish) FF equivalent). I am on the pre-order list for the Q3, too. I do still look at second-hand Q2s and wonder if that would actually be enough. But, a bit like you, and as is highlighted in the majority of your photos in this video, I tend to crop a lot. Inevitable with a 28mm fixed lens. The Q3 just offers that little bit more resolution for the tighter shots (now with a 90mm option!). How much work did you put into editing the finished photos? Colours are great and the compositions, too. Lovely video 🙌🏼
I'm picking up my Q3 tomorrow 😊
Short answer - Yes!
Great video.
Nice 👌🏼 What camera strap do you have?
Great video. Out of interest, are you using a mist filter on your video? What strength, if you are? Thanks
Thanks dude! Yes I use polar pros weaker mist filter for both my office videos and my outdoor videos! I’m not sure what strength it relates to the other companies but they have two and I use the weakest one
Great job on describing this camera. Glad you were able to reignite love for photography during Iceland trip.
Thank you dude!
Would you recommend the Q2 for photographing rhubarb ?
A very, very good explanation of why the Q2 is so appealing, utile, adaptable and pretty much unbeatable. I feel the same way about mine. By the way, are you ever mistaken for the US film director Ron Howard?
What strap is on the camera? It’s so pretty!
Nice video Jonny.Found you via the search for any Q content on here. I’ve got a Q2, had it a couple of years now and shoot it every day as ‘my camera’ compared to my Sony A7iv’s which I use for weddings.
I’d love a Q3 but for now, the 2 is perfect for me, especially with the recent FW update to include eye AF. Subscribed, I will give you a follow on Insta and elsewhere. Keep it up dude
Appreciate that thank you! After doing more research, I’m in the same boat as you. Very happy with the Q2 and I don’t think the upgrades of the Q3 warrant the upgrade for me currently, especially as it’s still so new to me, and I have no complaints really!
making me want that LEICA boi
Best thing I could have done for my photography!! Truly inspired me again to pick up a camera
This was very helpful. I have a Fuji X-Pro 3 and have been going back and forth on whether to get rid of the Fuji and get a Q2. I love the Fuji. Fortunately, a friend lent me his Q2 so I plan to use it non-stop for the next two weeks and decide. The Q2 is so damned expensive and I am trying to figure if the gaps between the 2 cameras are worth the additional price of the Q2. In the end, what I like is the ergonomics. All the Fuji film simulations are fun but, in the end, a gimmick. The way the buttons and screen work on the Q2 is brilliant. Even though the Fuji JPEGs are better, the DNG/RAW kills! Your video was very helpful in making the $$$ choice..
What did you decide on?
I got a Q2 and will also pick up an X-Pro 4 when it comes out. I also just bought an old Canon 5D Mark ii and some lenses for $400! What a deal!
@@burneshollyman2621 Nice! I've mostly used a Fuji X-T5 and recently got a Q2 and I'm blown away. I still like Fuji though, and I think I will get a Fuji X-E4 as my everyday camera for times where I don't anticipate on doing much photography.
what lens hood is that?
Great video mate ! appreciate it
I see a Q3 in the horizon
Good job. I just got a Q3. I am historically a Sony R shooter and toyed with a Fuji kit for a year but didnt like it as much as my Sony A7R world... I really get freaked out at having only 28mm as a starting point? Its the photographer lens -- missing out -- problem. Do I want a long lens for compression? Do I want a wide lens for landscape? Do I want a mid lens for portrait? I hate it... I bought the Q3 for the same reason as you -- to simplify. My question; when you were in Iceland -- did you not go through the "what if - lens" game or you were totally happy with the 28/35mm options?
That’s awesome! I hope you love it. They were a few moments in Iceland where I did wish I had a different lens but mainly only to go wider than 28. And I did have my Sony with me for that reason but in all honesty I didn’t reach for it that much. I’m actually found the Q2 to be very usable even when cropped to 75 mm. Something about that sensor combined with that glass rent is it really well without much lots of detail!
What strap is on the camera?
The leather strap is made by someone local to me in the Salt Lake Valley and sold at my local Camera store essential photo supply!
Whats the name of your lenshood? :)
I have a local here has one for $2700 he can't deal with he 28mm I think if they came with a 50mm without the CROP it would have been a better seller.. plus they are known to blow out the highlights and use way to high of an iso in auto iso..
That’s a steal. 28mm for me is perfect personally. I agree with the highlights, I have to set the EV to -1
@JonnyRoams My issue is I mainly shoot sports and action and a 50 is almost the lowest I go for almost anything I DId give it a go for a week with the 16mm on the r7 and some landscape some walk around some zoo shots etc etc.. which is 25.6 focal length and I just do not shoot there I have a r6 and r7 and for that price I can grab a used r5 and have just about the same Megapixels and shoot lots zoom ranges from 16 to 500 with no crop.. My 2 cents if they made this with a 50mm on it many more of us would be jumping I dont want to crop into a 50 from the 28 ( in reality it is a 24mm) but yes the 2700 with EXTRA LEICA battery is a steal.. Just can not see me using it it would sit.. and I would be out with the 70-200 as that is mainly my carry around..
@DAVE_WHITE yeah the Q2 isn’t really a sport camera whatsoever
@@JonnyRoams I would not even try it for sports my point is the 28 focal length for me is almost Never used, I have been shooting since 2000. a 50 I have used many times.. but my main carry around is the 70-200
I keep hearing that they 'hold their value'. Can't agree. I checked the money I'd get for a new Q2 as a trade-in and they would give me £2775. It's £5000 new. I would get more for the Fuji GFX 100s as a trade-in. I was underwhelmed when I held my first Leica. I must be missing something.
Yeah you’re comparing trade in value vs selling yourself. The Q3 that retails for $6,000 has a trade in quote for $3,975. The Leica Q2 has a trade in value of $2,725 on MPB, yet the used market value for the Q2 is $4000.
yup yup ... bought a used q2m (still retailing new for 6.1k) for 4k from mpb. So close enough if I decide to sell or trade for a q3, but this was a way to try things out with a bit less risk.
At any rate definitely keeping this one, may also do a q3 ... For reference I normally shoot Nikon z, which will continue.
omg it does not behave as multiple primes because you get nothing but field of view with a crop you have the same perspective of the 28mm (which in reality is more like 25mm, clearly it is not 28mm).
This is actually incorrect. You need to watch the Northrups video and a bunch of others that broke down lens compression. Cropping is the same as zooming in if you stay at the same position you’re making a photo. Obviously lens the distortion will be in play if you are close to the subject but I don’t close subjects
This was a great video man
I lost you at the clip of you driving with your headphones around your neck… ffs!
Better go find me then!
Saying it’s a summilux and that it’s several lenses in one is pure copium
Maybe 😂 but the results speak for themselves
@@JonnyRoams yes they do lol. Compare cropping a 28 with photos taken on those other focal lengths
@@bodythetan obviously. All I’m saying is they’re more than useable, especially for social media. I wouldn’t delivery a heavily cropped photo to a client, but that’s not what this camera is for
Dude talking about love. For a commodity object Sad stuff
Lmao okay pal
The dress of UA-camrs! A cap indoors, the beard! A uniform look of folks out to sell. A product that is flawed. Weight, yes true weight, limitations of a single lens, cropping the tool, of bad seeing! It's not small. A phone is smaller and better! I wil not subscribe!
You okay there bud? 😂
