      Thanks man! I ended up finding out more info thanks to some helpful commenters here and on Instagram. Shame that neither company bothered to have the attention to detail to post the information on their websites though.

    thank you for posting this review. I've been looking at this bass for a while and with so few reviews online, its hard to know if the bass is well constructed, has decent fretwork and neck. It's not inexpensive, so it is definitely a gamble.

    Toggle switch changes between 3 settings, the first one is passive like tone, 2nd full range tone like an active and 3rd switch is the 2nd voicing but scooped for slapp.
    The pull push makes the pickups go single coil.

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  Рік тому

      Makes sense, except this one doesn't have push/pull knobs. It has knobs that turn only, but find a notch about halfway through. So they're all kind of blend knobs it seems?

    • @codyhansonbass
      @codyhansonbass Рік тому +1

      @@ryanisheartlessthe center notch is a middle point. 50/50 blend for the pickup blend knob, +/- 0db for the EQ.

    Great review bro! I'm Looking for a five string multi scale for a drop g# project and now I'm thinking about one of these considering the difference in aggression vs the Ibanez 1005/1505. Thanks for the info!! 🤙🏼

      Yessir! I will say that at this point I’ve ended up selling it to fund me buying a used Dingwall NG2 5 string bass. Which I’m absolutely enamored with.

    on the Spector Dimension bass, they also include the Fishmen Fluences Modern with 2 band EQ. The switch operates "3" voicings, a modern tone, a scooped Eq tone and a vintage tone. Since you recorded everything with your distortion setting, its hard to tell what the voicings are, but there definitely is a change in character when you move the switch.

      Just be sure to be ready to use the manufacturers warranty. Legator's quality control can be great, and it can also be horrendous. This bass ended up having damaged frets on frets 1-5, the bridge was loose, and knicks in the finish that I didn't notice at first glance due to excitement. I ended up fixing it all because I know how to, but should not have had to for a $1400 bass.

    Thanks for bringing us this review. I have been considering buying either an Ibanez EBH1005 or 1505 and this looks like it is a direct competitor. The Ibanez basses use Bartolini pickups so they are likely not as aggressive.

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  Рік тому

      No problem! I have heard great things about the ibanez basses too though honestly. Although, I have never owned one. Ibanez was the other brand I was going to go with if I didn't get this one!

      I sold my Ibanez EHB1505MS for the Wraith (mines in black) for all the reasons in this vid. I just needed that extra scale length like the Dingwall. Best decision I've made on a bass.

      Sometimes that's kind of a thing with custom instruments. Fender has kind of the basic understanding deal. And I don't even like Fender. And I don't own either. But you compare the Spector Euro 5LT with the Warwick Corvette $$5. There are some similarities with the bridges and string nuts.
      Spector aluminum bridge, fixed brass nut. Warwick brass bridge, adjustable brass nut. about the same price. More function and weight(10.2lb) with the Warwick. Lighter(9.3lb) and less function with the Spector.
      You just never know what you're going to get. There's this saying. "The more options you have. The more things there are to go wrong". And that is true.
      What bass(es) would be your recommendation?!?

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  9 місяців тому +1

      @@rickrolli7091 Yeah the problem with this Legator, is its actually fairly bare-bones which is what I wanted. It has the fishman pickups, and the normal arrays and combinations youd expect with active pickups/preamps. But the pickups just don't sound good IMO.
      Then there was the issue of terrible fretwork, scratches in the fretboard, and tuning stability issues in even just Drop A, which is basically standard tuning with a Low A.
      At this point after selling it I purchased a Dingwall NG-2 5 string bass used on Reverb. It cost more, sure. But it sounds better, plays better, stays in tune, and is an absolute workhorse of a bass. I keep it in GCGCF and am happy as a clam!

    • @rickrolli7091
      @rickrolli7091 9 місяців тому

      @@ryanisheartless dang bro. That's a low tuning. Kind of reminds me of a lower version of Ryan Martinie.
      I tried out an NG3. For me, it only sounded good in active. Passive was horrible. Everything else was great. Strings are expensive.

  • @Beyond-Antares
    @Beyond-Antares Рік тому +1

    Ryan how does the legator compare to the Dingwall NG3's at a similar scale length?

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  Рік тому +2

      Dude… so funny that you ask this lol. Did you see my other socials or something? Because I just bought an NG2 5 string lol. I’ll be bluntly honest, I’m selling the Legator to pay off the dingwall. The NG2 is more comfortable to play, easier to intonate, and the pickups are a world of difference. I definitely loved this Legator, but the Dingwall is in a tier of its own.
      But then again, their price point deltas coincide with those differences as well. Maybe I’ll do a shootout of the two before someone buys the legator from me.

  • @frankmarini5391
    @frankmarini5391 Рік тому +2

    Do you mind explaining how to restring this bass? since it's a super long scale, I'm assuming you have to use special length strings. The headstock uses screws, do you cut the string length to remove the decreasing windings?

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  Рік тому +2

      So that could definitely be a whole separate video now that you reminded me haha. But essentially, the ball end of the strings fits into a slot on the bridge end just passed the saddles. Then you take the screws out of the top of the “headstock” and feed the strings through. I pull till they’re taught, and then tighten the screw back down. Then use the thumb screw tuners to put the tension into the strings. I had no issue with decreasing windings or anything. This might be one of my favorite headless bridges I’ve used yet.

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  Рік тому

  • @rjpalombo

    What gauge do you use for drop F? I'm thinking of going with .168 or .170 (for Drop F#). Great review btw!

    • @ryanisheartless
      @ryanisheartless  Рік тому

      I think a .148 is what I had last time I had it in F#. Kinda clubby, but it did the trick! Sucks trying to find bigger strings sometimes honestly. Right now I’ve got a .138 or a .140 on it if I recall, but it’s currently set up for Drop A and occasionally Drop G since I don’t have any guitars in F or F# right now.
