Pitcairn Islands, Norfolk Island, and Wallis and Futuna left the chat Also it was prolly good to mention rotuma aswell and maybe the cocos / keeling islands and Christmas Island
Cocos / Keeling and Christmas Islands are in the Indian Ocean and were uninhabited before people of Malay / Indonesian origin arrived to work there in modern times. So they have no ethnic, linguistic or geographical connection with the Pacific Islands.
But politically they are tied to Oceania, via their ownership by Australia. Also he prolly should’ve talked abt the Torres Strait Islands as the indigenous Torres Strait islanders are Melanesian
My favorite geography fact is that the Austronesians were the first to populate Madagascar. It is just such an insteresting look at how human civilizations developed
Perfect timing…I resolved a week or two ago to finally resolve all my geography Achilles heels, especially the South Pacific. Thank you for the well-timed upload!
Yyyoooooooo!!!!! Thank you KhAnubis.... There is alot you could of talked about but well its good for a first video.. your channel has prioritized other areas and there are hundreds of vids on them .
Dont forget we also have many outlier Polynesian Islands as far as Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro right north of Papua New Guinea, so the Polynesian triangle should be more shaped like a stingray
I have a question about Kiribati: do all of the archipelagos in that country count as parts of Micronesia or are some of them in Polynesia? (dunno whether that should depend on the local cultures or on arbitrary lines or what)
Our human brains tend to ignore how big the Pacific ocean really is because our brains evolved to comprehend land and not seas. I mean, the Pacific Ocean covers almost 30% of the Earth's surface which is more than Earth's landmass but we tend to ignore this stunning fact because of how our brains work so it's no wonder that these islands also get missed out
On continents bein entirely made up, this is why i insist there are 3 continents plus Oceania Theres the western continent, the eastern continent, and the southern continent; and then some islands includin the albeit large islands of Greenland and Australia
Ancient Polynesians managed to find so many tiny islands in the vast Pacific, a spec of land in an endless array of water and yet somehow I can't find my father. He left for a pack of cigarettes a few years ago (17 years ago) and hasn't been back since. Anyway great video on a topic not usually covered even by geography channels!

Kiribati is also well-known online for the delightful map of Kiritimati (Christmas) Island, with its cities of Poland, London, Paris and Banana
Great video, fellow Sporcle addict
I have always been fascinated by the Pacific island nations.
My favorite geography fact is that the Austronesians were the first to populate Madagascar. It is just such an insteresting look at how human civilizations developed

Glad to see a new video today!
Small island nations, on a map, are so indistinct that I can feel your pain there.
Yeah you can see me trying different ways of showing them
@KhAnubis now you've gotta do one for the lesser antillies. Those are the worst
5:25
My best bet: Weber Line
You should do a video about Polynesian outliers and Micronesian outliers!
Brooo you forgot the Pitcairn Island and a part of the Kiribati in Polynesia
Yyyoooooooo!!!!! Thank you KhAnubis....

The Solomon Islands also includes Guadalcanal, the famous WWII battleground.
Atlas Pro, whom you have recommended in the past, also has some great videos on bio regions.
Which CGP video is the quote at 02:41 from?
That would be his Scandinavia video
Just came from the comment i saw you posted on mr beat time zone video
What did he post
400th video lets go
Fiji and New Caledonia have part Polynesian heritage too not just Melanesian
Dont forget we also have many outlier Polynesian Islands as far as Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro right north of Papua New Guinea, so the Polynesian triangle should be more shaped like a stingray
Clipperton island is also part of oceania btw u forgot to include it in the area
No Nauru? So sad you left it out 😢
I gave a quick mention at 6:51 (it’s very small though)
@ thank you. My mistake. Sorry for missing it
@@KhAnubis very quick indeed
6:09 *wth I wasn't expecting there to be a Yap State!*
Yes!!!!! Burkina Faso.
They are very good at rugby.
before anyone gets too mad, i'm pretty sure that they do insist on it being pronounced as "forty thousand" on sponsorships
niue jumpscare in the thumbnail

Great video! I really appreciate 🙏 . I am already subscribing
Tuvalu is pronounced /too-VAH-loo/, not /TOO-vuh-loo/.
On continents bein entirely made up, this is why i insist there are 3 continents plus Oceania

Can you explain the Gulf of America?
Well, you see a bunch of idiots voted for an orange nazi, and now he wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico and invade Canada
- the P triangle
= Permuda ?
- no ... Polynesia
No Wallis and Futuna 😡
Jetpunk > sporcle
Kiribati from "Gilbert"? I thought it derived from "christmas".
That would be Kiritimati.
That’s Kiritimati, not Kiribati.
Unsatisfactory you should dive deeper
was the first like 😁
