He went to Bama...got beat out by Jalen Hurts...Kiffin was as dick to him...he transferred to Arizona state as quickly as he could so he could play the next year...All the coaches at ASU got fired...he transferred to USF and did okay got hurt the next year,,,,and just gave up on football. Now he has a good life, runs a BBQ joint, does some football training and by all accounts has a good life and family. There saved you 30 mins.

To quote Clint Eastwood, “a man has to know his limitation’s”. Congrats to this young man. All of us have a ceiling in our abilities, whether it’s in sports or business etc. I was a senior in high school in 1965. Played football and was the starting linebacker on a Division 1 high school football team. Dreamed of playing college football. Football was my life. Lived, breathed football 24/7.
Took a tour of our state college during spring practice. Was down on the field during a spring scrimmage. My god those players were monsters. The hitting was incredible and the size of the linebackers was off the charts. In one flash of clarity I realized the my football career was over after my last game in high school. Tough pill to swallow at the age of 18, but that’s life. All of our youthful dreams don’t play out.
Joined the Marines after high school, served four years, which included a 13 month tour in Vietnam as a grunt. Came home and went to college, earned two degrees, and went on to have a wonderful career in the corporate world.
I have a wonderful family, incredible life. No complaints at all.
But every now and then I remember that day when I realized my dream of playing college football ended.

I’m 23 so mine is more recent, but I realized in 2017 I was never playing college. I had offers and went to visit a school but the players were absolute wildebeests. And I realized that I (a lineman) was only good at playing technically not aggressively. These guys had a level of aggressiveness I knew I couldn’t match. You don’t gain/learn that. That’s just in you. That’s when I realized I wasn’t playing.

Very well stated young man. You had the maturity and wisdom at a young age to accept reality. Kudos to you.
You will do well in life. Cherish your memories from your HS career, but move on with your life. Many great opportunities lay ahead.
You remind of my son. Was the starting center on his high school team. Two undefeated seasons back to back, two Super Bowl wins, and he made second team all-state.
Just not big enough for college and accepted it.
Finished college and now lives in Boston and happy and successful career.
      Good luck!

A rich white kid from ca is gonna be endless opportunities but again regardless of race for people from the from the Midwest with broken homes a college degree probably means making max 65k a year and still never having financial freedom let’s be real if you don’t have that and of course boomers who are literally the reason for the next generations not being able to buy homes are gonna try to hide the fact there whole system of your nothing without a degree was total bs you sold Americas future for your cheap house and a pension…..

Bama fan here and a big Blake Barnett supporter. I was so disappointed when he didn't win the starting job at Bama. Lane Kiffin was a great OC but he always favored the running QBs and not the pocket passers. As for Saban, I would point out that he had great relationships with other offensive players such as Hurts, Tua, Mac Jones, D Henry, etc, so I think that's not a fair statement. But Barnett is winning at life because he has a gorgeous wife and family, and he's got a good career. I'm glad he's doing well. The NFL may be flashy but it comes with a price, so I don't blame anyone for not having the desire to play in the NFL.

As I recalled that year Bama Offensive Line was not good. Blake was suppose to be a stud but without blockers he looked suspect! If Jalen Hurts first read wasn't open he would just run. No, that's not really accurate actually. I used to be a recruiting junkie. I paid the monthly fees for the latest updates like a true paypig loser. Barnett's recruiting class was one I followed closely. What was so different about his class was that it was the first time scouts divided the QBs into two distinct categories. For the first time ever, recruiting services distinguished between pro style passing QBs, and a separate new category for dual threat QBs. When Barnett was ranked the #4 high school QB, it was of all the QB prospects combined. He didn't become the #1 QB as a result of decommitting from Notre Dame to go to Alabama. What happened was he was awarded the #1 pro style passing QB ranking under it's own distinctive category. That was totally new. There had never been two different QB divisions before

I'm sorry things didn't work out for Blake at Bama, but I'm glad he's living a good life now with a great family and business. We've had some wonderful QBs at Bama, but sometimes things go south. Look at Brice Young with the Panthers, we still aren't sure he will have a good NFL career, and then things didn't go very well for Mac in New England, I want all of our Bama guys to have successful careers and great lives, let's keep our hopes up for Mac and Brice.

You're missing some information about Blake and Jalen....
It's well known that at the start of that season Saban didn't know who the starting QB was going to be......
He done interviews saying that they were going to spilt the job for a few games, until 1 of them showed they should be the starter.....
Blake wasn't pulled in the USC game simply because he went 3 and out twice...
In fact he done good for the time he was in and even had a TD.
He only had 1 incompletion in that game....
    1 incompletion and a TD...
That's not struggling going 3 and out and being taken out.....
Everyone knew Jalen was going to be coming in that game and the next couple of games was going to be like that.
I'm pretty sure there was 3 QBs that entered that game.
It wasn't until week 2 that it started becoming Jalens team.
Blake had a pretty bad start in that game where he went 2/6 and barely had any yards, compared to Jalen who had a good game.
It wasn't until week 3 that Jalen was named the starter, as he had clearly shown he was the one for the job.
So it was pretty well known that coming out of the preseason they had no clue who was going to be the starting QB to start the season, based on Sabans own words, and over 2 games they finally chose Jalen.
Struggling against Western Kentucky will do it every time.

He seems like a very likable and responsible young man, who likely simply stood back and did a cost-benefit analysis....a lot on your plate with a family, etc... I'm sure that whatever he puts his mind to, he will succeed. I'm sure he learned a lot about playing football that can eventually be transferred to his future life. That BBQ looks great! I wish this young man a lot of success in life!

That's how recruiting works. Ever notice how if Alabama, Ohio State or Georgia even looks a players way he jumps 1 or 2 stars in the rankings. As soon as they do, every other program is putting them on the radar. And that is part of the reason some kids with skills and potential will slip through the cracks and then end up at directional state U leading an upset of a major program.

As an Alabama Alum and season ticket holder going back to the Bear Bryant days, we were very excited to hear Blake Barnett sign with Alabama. I remember that USC game very well and was very excited to see his first start.. Unfortunately he looked like a deer in the headlights those first few series. I remember thinking, "He's just not ready". You don't get drafted by Nick Saban unless you have the skills. I'll say nobody comes the Alabama to become buddy-buddy with Nick Saban. You come to get coached up hard enough to make you the best you can be. Saban had a saying. "What do you want to accomplish? What are you willing to do to achieve that? And, how are you going to respond when things don't go your way." Because at some point you WILL face adversity. I truly think Blake would have done better to stay at Alabama and get coached up. College is not high school. It's more of a business. We have a history of QB's that might have started before they were ready, got bench and came back to win the starting job. Sometime Saban will bench you to see how you deal with adversity. If you bolt, then he knows. Then again, to be successful at a major program one of the biggest things they want to know is how important football is to you. I'm not sure it was that important to Blake.

That’s the thing a lot of us don’t think of is there are countless dudes who were the best thing since sliced bread in their hometown during high school, went to college being promised a chance to battle for the starting position, get benched and forgotten about after a couple drives and that’s the start of a downward spiral that goes to them having to get a real life job. Like Matt says someone who’s good at football and doesn’t make it to the NFL doesn’t make someone a loser. Dude lives a great life with a beautiful family and is a winner in my mind.

I am glad that someone other than me finally took the time to look at that situation objectively. I was an Alabama fan at the time . I new some people that new people on the inside . The information I got ahead of time always proved to be true. This video covers most of it but there are some things that are not commonly known. tention between Saban and kiffin played a role. Barnett was a little weakened because he had to have a full blood transfusion. The truth is saban did him dirty. He won't say it outright in the interviews to avoid controversy but he did. Saban will not come out and admit the he actually screwed that situation up. He set it up so Jalen hurts would win the job harshly because he wanted to run the ball more. That ended up being a problem later on . Hurts could not read defense. Jalen hurts refused to learn how to read defense until he got benched for tua. That is why Jalen is the player he is today. This whole situation is what made me lose respect for Nick Saban and most Alabama fans. The way the fans treated this guy for doing exactly what they probably would have done was hypocritical. Nick Saban wanted Blake Barnett to come in look like he had a shot when he never really did and be a good contingency plan . That's kind of dirty in my opinion . Then when the guy decides to try to do something for himself because saban lied to him Nick Saban publicly criticized him lucky is not done for very many other players before. Put yourself in his shoes. You're 18 19 years old trying to become a better football player and the man that most people consider the best to ever do it comes out and takes personal shots to you. That broke Barnett's conference and he still played well enough to win a starting job at another d one school . It worked out for Alabama in the end because two it was better than Jalen or Blake but I will never forget the low character Nick Saban showed in this situation . If you pay close enough attention over the years you can see his lack of character . Just ask Jimbo Fisher . Most Alabama fans are bandwagon fans ice cream roll Tide because they win but I stopped doing it because of the way they did it . Recently the character flaws on the team have begun to show . That is not the same kind of teams they used to have. Nick Saban started carrying more about blue chip then he did blue collar and it cost him . He had to give up what he loved to be remembered the way he is.

My daughter's went to Santiago High School in Corona, CA. So I've been a huge Blake Barnett fan since game 1 his junior year. It was funny, I was visiting my mom in Hesperia, and the Fox West game of the week was Hart vs. Santiago.
Now, the story was Hart, a once huge CIF powerhouse and quarterback Brady White. He and his star receiver had played together all through Pop Warner, etc. So, the connection was strong.
Santiago was not supposed to factor in the game at all. Honestly, Santiago is a historically running team. Hart was kicking Santiago's butt up and down the field. The lead was astronomical.
But Blake turned to his couch, making a bird like flapping motion with his arms. To it was the question, please let me fly! Let me go, let me do it my way, and thank God the couch did!
I can't begin to tell you what I saw transpire, and Blake is very humble.
He took over and kicked Hart's butt. At most of every touchdown moving forward was Santiago and Hart couldn't answer until the 4th quarter. It was unbelievable, and Santiago had the ball when the clock ran out. 5 mins max, and there would have been a different winner that night. Hart was in shock because this wasn't supposed to happen...
Blake was a kid on fire, finding receivers everywhere, in crowds, open, anywhere. He was threading the needle half the time.
This game floored me, and I can still see it in my mind as if it were yesterday.
From that day on, I never missed a game. I went to every game. Even though we moved 50 miles away, you would find me wherever they played.
To me, Blake was advised the real deal. Kiffin was a tool, but I don't blame him . He was the perfect QB for his offense where blake wasn't. Blake was great, but he wasn't Hurts...
Look, there's more to this than people talk about, but Blake has class, and you'll never hear him blame others for his performance.
Blake, you will always be the greatest natural quarterback I've ever seen!!

But yes, he was never the starting QB. Starting QB means you are the man and are the starter for the season or until you were injured, not because you started one game and got pulled after two series.
