I've said for years that the final 20-30 minutes of The Dark Knight flat-out suck. It feels so rewarding to finally see someone else think the same! Dont get me wrong, the rest of the film is a masterpeice, but it really should've ended with Joker blowing up the hospital and getting away. Perfect ending, Joker wins and Two Face doesnt die! Stopping the movie there is just such a perfect ending and I wish Rises was about Two Face, or having him be the person controlling Bane. This way also leads the perfect bow out for this Joker, He wins, he corrupts Gotham's White Knight. His job is done, theres no need for him to stick around! And you also don't waste a great villian in a rushed 20 minutes subplot. Also the ferry stuff is dumb. But eh, hindsight is 20/20

I'm pretty confident both QS are old unfinished protos brought out of the vault and sold as is. And why not when anything Ledger sells. Going to be hard to do that once they nail him.

Great review, this is clearly a cash grab figure, a huge lack of effort with this joker overall, with 1/4th scale it should have the potential to surpass the 1/6th version, but this clearly seems like a huge step back, again its good that your so honest during this review, unlike Justin's collection who seems to love all his figures and doesn't find fault with anything, even when there are clearly problems, anyway great review
I understand you would think that, but some people are less critical than others, you can agree or disagree, but not being critical or being the opposite for that matter doesn't mean either is being dishonest.
@@McFlyguy1 i wasn't saying Justin is dishonest, I just think his hype and excitement can some times cloud this judgement, paying a lot of money for these figures you need 100% clarity, and that's what dean does, he likes the figure but like me can see its obvious flaws and doesn't let his love for hot toys or the character get in the way of his judgement, I appreciate that

Maybe you didn't mean it that way.
I don't question Justin's integrity, just his objectivity and level of scrutiny. The best reviewers realize that these things are bloody expensive and are aware of the high standards that have been set over the years, using them as a reference point. So when other reviewers continually say "spot on", "perfect", "100%" etc what they are actually saying is that when everything is amazing, nothing really is. Another thing that I have noticed is that there is a lot of hypenosis, situations where excitement over a figure or a film, leaves one blinkered to it's faults and failings. That, or because somebody has paid a lot of money for something, they delude themselves and convince themselves that the product is great and then get snarky with those who see things differently, act childish and throw the "hate, haters, toxic, troll" labels around.
@@dangiambrone7350 I don't disagree with your sentiment, my point is just that because someone is not as critical as you, that doesn't mean they're wrong, or blinded by the amount they paid or whatever, it might just be a difference in mentality and what you expect, it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with honesty.

A stellar review buddy . You said pretty much what needs to be said . Like we said before , a lot of missed opportunities for bringing in unseen detail that 1/4 scale brings but HT missed . But still a figure worth having and displaying with pride . The Joker was first to kill a guy with a pencil , long before John Wick but not as cool or badass ..
Great job Dean! Unboxing, true light footage, comprehensive review...all in the space of 24 hours: top notch!!. For me, It's a great Joker figure, a nice artistic impression, but not a great Heath Ledger Joker figure - hair, likeness (those reference photos only serve to highlight this) , expression, not accurate to my eyes, and the fact that his clothes look far too vibrant/clean.
As for the paint apps, time and time again Hot Toys has produced outstanding work (Harley Quinn, BD Robocop, Terminator, Palpatine, AOU Hulk, the DX11...), Hot Toys could have done so much better here - especially given that it's a 10 year celebratory piece. Having seen some of your own painting skills, I'm confident that you could enhance both sculpts yourself, even if it's subtle changes. I'd make the black rings around his eyes a little larger, gloss the lips, and add some additional red smudging around them.
Your final score is very fair considering how much is being asked for this piece - how cool would some 1/4 dogs have been? If they provide the pipe..... or even a champagne glass?
Great review, man. I actually just paid my last flex pay for him earlier today. I definitely appreciate the honesty about it. I think I agree with just about everything you said here, but thankfully he still DOES look very good after the futzing you did. I'm gonna end up stripping the extra sculpt and repainting him and doing hair. I really don't have any issue with the likeness. I think it's quite good, even if it's not totally 100%. Better paint and real hair will show just how good a sculpt it is. I have no doubt about it. But yeah, cheers, bud.

Looks amazing but I can agree with all the things you said.
Over 6 years since the DX11, and yet in pretty much ever department it’s better than this.

It's weird, i see the dx11 as the benchmark. I don't even know if dx11 really looks like heath ledger but i've gotten so ised to it and the paintwork is great on it. Thx again.

Dean your the man. Great honest review. I look forward to more content regarding this figure. It would be great to get ahold of a Enterbay 1/4 scale Joker and compare and contrast them as you have with the batman figures over the years. Overall it is growing on me. I have the enterbay version but the coomodel body seems more fragile than the hot toy one. I don't pose it very much, found one good pose and left it in it. Just became a pateron to your cause. I owe you for all the great advice and reviews. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have my killer enterbay Batman or Joker. I really love the channel. Peace.

well done dean, im bummed out for your sake as well. This sort of figure means so much to me and its just a let down in so many ways. I also noticed that the face makeup feels very painted on and doesnt match the film look either. It usually was splotchy or somewhat transparent and you could barley see his skin tone under it. This just feels too thick, among other things that you mentioned

Hey Dean, how did you get the head to be pointed forward? Mine seems to just angle right to the ground.
The greed monster is running amuck at Hot Toys. Among other things, lax articulation at $500+, come on. I don't think rooted hair was really considered.

Great review. Totally agree with your score . just a little thing but would bug the hell out of me is the gloved hands, theres a part by the rest that should be skin colour I would think and ht just coloured it all purple. Anyway cool vid.

The quality jump from proto to final of all the JL figures, so far, is pretty astounding. To see such a beloved character like this not get the same love is surprising. So many odd choices and off aspects from this piece. It's sad honestly.
The gun holding may be solved with this - Heath Ledger is left handed not right handed. Dont know if that helps!

This is the hot toys reviewer to watch
From an overall aesthetic, the Hot Toys 1/4th scale Heath Ledger Joker looks great. The sculpt, paint application and stitch work on the clothing are nicely done. The figure comes with a pretty good amount of accessories, which are nicely detailed. However, the second head sculpt, while it does a good job of resembling Heath Ledger, is a bit soft in terms of paint application. Besides the black paint that's on the right side of the face and the wrinkles on the forehead, the rest of the head sculpt is simply way too similar to the default head sculpt. The included crotch clip is absolutely pointless and the figure needs one, especially given the fact that The Joker can't stand properly by himself due to how the shoes are sculpted. The display base is a bit on the tacky side due to the placement of the why so serious? and haha. Instead, each phrase should've been included on it's own face plate that could've been easily swapped out. It's really odd that The Joker's blade is made out of plastic instead of die cast metal. In fact, none of the accessories are made out of die cast metal or at least partial die cast metal, which is a bit of letdown for sure. The DX11 version of the Heath Ledger Joker is far superior when compared to the 1/4th scale Joker figure in just about every way possible. $505 is a bit steep and for the most part, it's mostly a scaled up version of the older DX11 Heath ledger figure that came out years ago. I can get two Hot Toys figures for the price of this one. With that aside, thanks once again Dean for another high quality, honest and unbiased video. As always, I really appreciate the hard work. Keep it up my friend!

I wanted this but my 1/4 NECA Joker is not a let down
I've had this pre-ordered for nearly 3 years, I've built 7 1:6th scale joker since. I'm very disappointed in this as a whole. I'm not upset about the eyes. But I'm not pleased with the figure. And for my first hottoys figure I can safely say I'll never buy again
Man I've been waiting on this figure since announced, and was thinking of purchasing it to replace my DX11 I sold awhile back 😞. Just received an email from sideshow and have a chance to buy one since I was on the waitlist, do you think it's worth getting or should pass?
Give it go, and if you don't like it , move it on quickly. I doubt that you will lose money on it.
I agree on Batman Begins. Best of the Nolan series, even if I do love all three. As for this figure, I think darker jacket, moveable eyes and rooted/glued hair would’ve made this a masterpiece. Instead it’s just ok. I’ll wait till in hand, but for now, slightly disappointed. Another stellar review! 👊
They really need to re-issue DX11 like they are doing with IW Thor and Mark L.

I think u were too hard on the figure it isn't a ten but its definitely not a 5 it's got nice clothes and good heads it would be nice to have rooted hair but it isn't mandatory and a good amount of accessories
I agree. It's not going to be perfectly film accurate. HT always take liberties anyway whether it's by choice or not.
There's something not right about the head for me. Whether it's sculpt or paint I don't know. But it just doesn't look right. His vacant expression isn't helping much either, nor is the hyper clean makeup. It's better in-hand than the prototype looked, but I expected better for a company who has attempted this character SO many times. They should have been able to knock this out of the park blind folded. They should have made the second headsculpt the interrogation makeup or something. Something scene accurate and useful, not this artistic tribute nonsense.

On the subject of the face make-up looking unprofessional let's not forget Joker's make-up was applied by a mad man namely himself in the movie in my opinion it looks fantastic but I agree he should've came with more accessories like the rocket launcher that would've been nice even my 1/4 custom Joker came with that. And I bought the 1/4 Hot Toys Joker head it really add a lot to my custom Joker much more realistic looking.
Initially I didn't like the hair on the Hot Toys Joker but now I like the Hot Toys Joker more than Entertbay's and the tailoring on Hot Toys is simply amazing.
I dont think they have got the hair right. It's like a dot in the front not like in the movie
This figure is absolutely awesome. But I agree with you about The second headsculpt: it should be a diferent expression. Dean, I LOVE your reviews man, but in the last few months you look so disapointed with Hot Toys... why don’t you sell the ones you don’t like (1/4 Batman Begins, Predator, this 1/4 Joker) and keep the Necas and Enterbay? I mean, it’s a lot of money to spend in something that doesn’t give you any joy. Cheers!

Rooted hair is horrible. They would never achieve wet look film accurate without sculpted. PERS is also for DX. If it was 1/4 scale DX I would of expected it.
THE FACE SUCKS man, that's the main problem, the face sculpt, the shape of the mouth. The jokers 1/6 scale are still the best.
Disagree man. The 1/4 definitely looks more like Ledger. The 1/6 eyes are too big. That was a big issue with pers system back then. All the figures with pers had over sized eyes. They finally fixed that issue when the dx13 came out.
