1 of My absolutely Favorite songs by Skynard!! Same, our family never traveled further West than Kansas, or never went higher North than Pennsylvania. My Dad lives in The Ozarks, it's beautiful there, but I lived in Florida All my life, and it's The most beautiful state to me!! Wish more people could hear this song! Thank You!!
Man its cool to see the difference of how people interpret lyrics differently. Now that you mention it "the concrete slowly creeping" almost definitely represents civilization spreading a ruining the beauty of nature, however I always interpreted it as the concrete creeping meaning the concrete of a grave stone. So in essence I thought he was singing about how he can see that he is aging and getting closer to death, and it makes him appreciate all of these things much more than when he was younger/ more naive.
As a country boy who moved to the city this song hits me hard. I had that old farm to go back to for many years until my folks got old and it was to much to handle. I really miss the quiet, the smells and just walking in the woods. I went out there last week and drove up the long driveway just to get a peek. It made me happy to see that the folks who bought it have really left it the same and have kept up my Mothers beautiful flower gardens. Thanks for reacting/reviewing this wonderful song.
Hey check out Jason Isbell live in 2006 playing "Dress Blues" shortly before he left the Drive by Truckers. Its one of the more dramatic live performances I've ever seen. Its just him and an electric guitar telling the story of a boy he went to school with who died in Iraq. Also check out "Goode's Field Road" (alternate version) and "72 This highway's mean" by the Truckers, those are very southern rock.
awesome lyrics - so unique - you can visualise what it must look like - especially when the concrete arrives !!! As for the band - just always loved them and hear that piano and fiddle - all of the musicians are brilliant - you are right - a beautiful song on so many levels as you said - wow !!!xx
I've always thought about how poignant that the ending is considering that three of them died in the plane crash the same year as it was released. If I can see the concrete a slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes
I cant give u a all time favorable song I have becouse it kinda depends on my mood & shit. But i can say this song & the Alman Brothers "Soulshine" got to be in my top 5.
Your tastes and mine are lining up real well, Jesse! "Soulshine" is one of my all-time favorites, too. From that album I also like "Back Where It All Begins" and "Everybody's Got A Mountain To Climb." I can listen to those tunes on auto-loop.
@@RockN2Country I think so as well. I definatly like the artist & type of music u have been doing. I've got a ton of suggestions for u but I'm sure uve got a bucket full already. I'll just give em wen I comment over time so I dont overload ya. Lol
@Fun Videos I made the adjustment about a year ago after I had "a few" folks let me have it for calling it a violin. Ha! But in fairness, the channel; was originally designed to get non-country fans into country, so was Nashville country, and if I had called it a fiddle many of those folks would've run away. I know, because I used to be one of 'em. Ha!
@@RockN2Country that's fine, mainly I just poking a little fun, I live in Wisconsin but was born and raised in Georgia, I get picked on daily for my accent and word choice, I needed to give you a little for being in the north east.
@@RockN2Country It's actually the "acoustic" version. The accompaniment is piano instead of violin. Several uploads on UA-cam, here's one just so you can hear it ua-cam.com/video/IQNtYI7YU0I/v-deo.html I used to do this song a cappella in a little dive bar because no one knew how to play it on open mic night.
Don I just noticed going through your list of reviews you haven't done the Judds or Tanya Tucker. There is a plethora of good songs to choose from by both. " Granpa tell me bout the good ole days, rocking with the Rythym of the rain, momma he's crazy. All good Judd songs. Two sparrows in a hurricane, delta dawn, are a couple of Tanya's.
This is the 1st song I learned to play on guitar in the mid 90s. It'll always hold a place in my heart.

Thanks for reviewing this one. Used to sit in my Chevelle SS and listen to it over and over on the 8 track.
Gotta love Skynyrd, one of the best bands ever

Love this song
Ive never heard this rendition of this song. Its awesome.
My all-time favorite Skynard song. It has always pulled at my heart. There is something so poignant and wistful in his voice.
That's so well worded, Jessica--"poignant and wistful" is such an eloquent way of describing it. Nicely done!
One of my favorite Skynard songs. I love this
It’s rock n’ roll, man! Country + blues..white and Black people playing off each other for generations. Pure Americana
What a great time for music!
Right? So fortunate we are.
Hypeman here THANK YOU FOR THIS XMAS PRESENT TY AGAIN ONTO FB
My pleasure, Jerry!!

Hot springs nc been there loved it
They sing about the south land and I love it!! Unlike country today!
We call it a fiddle

Great song, although I prefer the piano version better.
@shaitanlavey Which piano version?

Tanya is on my list, as she's one of the all-time greats. Good call.
Great song! How about "Red White and Blue"? Later Skynyrd with Donnie as front man.
I'll be doing "Red, White, and Blue" this coming year, and obviously for a holiday.
Johnny was with Skynyrd Donnie is in 38 special
I would love to hear it without the clown pausing it.
Then just look up the song by itself genius
I can't I'm blind.
Scott Calman. No need to be rude bro!
