These dudes are bad ass and they were inducted into the rock n roll of fame in 2006.
Skynyrds catalog is full of great tunes
👍🥁🥁🎵🎼🎶💥
Ed King tells the story of him in the rehearsal house, where Ronnie would always demand they bring something to work on, and Ed was playing around with this riff, and Ronnie, sitting by
kept motioning him to keep playing, then after a bit, Ronnie came up to Ed, and whispered in his ear "Two feets they come a creepin, like a black cat do". They knew it was a hit in the making.
That’s the “Hell House” in Green Cove Springs, Fl, right down the road from me. The heat and humidity they suffered through in that place inspired the name.
Both of those are such fascinating tidbits of information about Skynyrd.
Ed said, who comes up with stuff like that?
"Gimme Back My Bullets". Skynyrd was Bad Boy Southern Rock Wholesome all American Men, with Honkette's. "Give me Three steps.".
Oh YEAH!
Great GREAT G R E A T choice, they'll love it❗️❗️
Gimme Back My Bullets isn't about guns though.
GREAT REACTION GUYS. It is gangster. Blackfoot (an offshoot of Skynyrd) has some gangster songs (e.g. Fox chase and Highway song as well as gimme gimme gimme) One of Skynnyrds best songs imho is The Needle and the Spoon. SHORT BUT SWEET. God bless. Also forget about 38 special, I saw that recommended below. PETSONALLY, I THINK green Grass and High Tides may be the best southern rock song of all time, being a Floridian.😅
They did gimme back my bullets
One of Skynyrd's Finest Songs. Such a dirty groove and Ronnie's Vocal & Lyrics are absolute Fire!
Just a filthy groove. It hits every time.
Serious southern rock, with dead serious lyrics. For all the attention given to Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird, this may be Skynyrd's best.
They made five great records before the untimely death of Ronnie Van Zant the singer, Steve Gaines the guitar player, Steve's sister and a few crew in that plane crash. They did music with his brother Johnny years later starting in 1991 under the same name, and its not bad. But the golden age is 70s Skynyrd for sure!
Also remember 2 albums as Rossington-Collins Band, early 80s. I actually really like the 1st one, but the 2nd RCBand album...dont wanna say it sucked, but it wasnt very good. They were all going through a lot at the time...
Thanks for doing this song. I love when reactions are done before artists reach so-called commercial success. This album has so many great songs that are passed over.
Everyone always reacts to the radio hits, it's a shame that songs like this are missed.
The Ballad of Billy Kid is a similar style to this, with amazing lyrics.
Inducted in 2006. Ronnie Van Zant wrote their lyrics and he lived like a gangster in a rough neighborhood in Florida. He was nice when sober and deadly when drunk. He did have strong feelings about guns and about driving under the influence that he put in his songs.
he did enjoy fishing for relaxing. and baseball he was pretty good
@@scotthanson4200 Yeah, I've seen the documentary, If I Leave Here Tomorrow,, several times. I've also seen him swimming at his home.
Lived like a gangster? No, just the Westside of Jax. Working class, definitely not fancy...nothing' wrong with that.
If u know, u know.
They used this song in the first part of the 1974 movie The Longest Yard.
YES!!!!..This is why I love yall! The Lynyrd Skynyrd band was the worst loss to rock beside Hendrix.
The '70s was a disastrous decade for rock...Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Keith Moon besides Hendrix and Skynyrd and preceded by Brian Jones in '69...
Yep along with Duane Allman
A "Saturday Night Special" usually described cheap hand guns, sold on the black market in the 1970s. Some of these things were crude and flimsy, but guess what- They were cheap, widely available, and worked....
I think these guys were talking & missed Ronnie singing "For twenty dollars you can buy yourselk one tooooo". Kind of an important line, emphasizing how cheap & readily available they were. ANYBODY, even a kid, could buy one anonymously in any big city in America...
Still can where I'm from. Will cost ya $50 however.
Yep, the band was inducted in 2006.
It's always hard when thinking about what might have been lost that day in 1977, but we all know almost 50 years later that it was pure greatness.
There will never be another band like Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Thanks again, fellas, for keeping their music alive and for another great reaction as usual.
This song was featured in the Burt Reynolds movie "The Longest Yard".
Rossington Collins Band ~ "don't Misunderstand Me"....! Great Song..!
Southern Rock at its Finest , Dont forget to react to the band .38 Special if you have not yet, Bangin !! Relations I believe
I'd also recommend Blackfoot. An awesome Southern Rock band. Rick Medlocke was once the drummer in Skynyrd when Bob Burns took leave for a time.
Ronnie's brother Donnie Van Zant was lead singer for 38 Special...
@@andychisarick6879Chain Lightning 🤘
@@andychisarick6879actually he shared leads with Don Barnes
Don't forget Molly Hatchet.
Killer riff! Yes, this LP was produced (along with some of their others) by the great Al Kooper. A man who deserves his own praise. Thank for reminding me how good this song is. 👍
Their songs “ 4 walls of Raiford” and “ Mr.Banker” off the legends album are a couple of my personal favorites!
And a few others that came out as "previously unrelesed" that deserve mentioning: "Junkie", "Wino", and "I Gotta Go". Never understood how Junkie & Wino never made it on a mainstream Skynyrd album. Just ran outta time I guess. sigh
Yes we had gun issues way back then to. The Saturday Night Special was a small caliber gun. Like a 25 cal. Easy to conceal and was a throwaway gun. From what i remember i was a teenager. Makes me happy that y'all are diggin Skynyrd. My favorite. Ronnie Van Zants wrote songs regular folks could relate to.
Cheap pistols bought on the street.
"Fo' twenty dollars, you can get yourself one, too"
Back then? Roflmao.
Wrong. It was just a cheap pistol, usually .38, bought in a bar or from your local hustler,, usually a piece of junk from South America..I saw hundreds of em in the 70s...
@@t.j.payeur5331 whatever man. I did some research to see if i was wrong. The.25 was a prime example of a Saturday night special back in the 70's . I never said a.25 was the only caliber gun that was considered a Saturday night special.Like i said they were cheap throwaway guns. I never said anything about where they came from or how people got them. Raven arms.25 is a good example of one. Made in the USA. Maybe one thing we can agree on is this is a kickass tune?
Guys, get their double live album called, “One More From The Road.” It’s the proof that shows just how tight and so well rehearsed they were live.
Really well recorded for the times IMO. Listen to something like All the World’s a Stage from Rush around the same time. Sounds like it’s in a tunnel. I have the heavy vinyl of OMftR and it’s super.
@@loadedorygun yep, also have original vinyl. 🍻
Saturday night special is a 38 caliber not a 380.
AMAZING live album 🔥
Southern Rock at its finest! You guys are amazing!
Loved this reaction because LB heard what was being said in the last verse.
Inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 with Black Sabbath, Blondie, Mile Davis and Sex Pistols.
Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels in the Orange Bowl in 1975 when I was going to college. Saw Skinner 3 times before the October 1977 plane crash.
I’ve heard this song my entire life living in the South. So happy new listeners are discovering Skynyrd. Funny memory about this particular song. Years ago I was across the street from the legendary Florabama Lounge in Orange Beach, Alabama at a dock local boats pull up to from trips out on the gulf. I’m sitting there waiting on a parking spot, when all of a sudden I hear Saturday Night Special blaring from a boat coming in. It was this expensive ski boat pulling up with four or five college guys and one college girl in a itty bitty white bikini to the dock. Those jerks stayed in the damn boat while that girl got out and came back with a case of beer under each arm to them 😡 now every daggum time I hear this song I think of those jerks
Love the reaction, as usual! I'm 60, so I remember guys having gun racks inside the truck, in the high school parking lot! You knew why. Going hunting later, not gang banging. 😉Peace
If you want a lot of the hits from them on vinyl, get Gold and Platinum.
Ed tells this story, he was playing the guitar intro in a room and Ronnie opens the door and sings the first lines to the song, two feets they come a creepin, like a black cat do, Ed sat there amazed, how's he do that.
Rest easy guys, they were inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Also, if you like that type of song, try, Gimme back my bullets.
Not too many people review " Working For MCA", but it is a Skynyrd banger, and "Gimme Back My Bullets", both are ear candy.
A Saturday Night Special is a Snub Nose.38 Revolver. And the rounds often used were Hallowpoints.
Usually a saturday night special was a small revolver like a .32 or .38 not a .380 which is an automatic.Something cheap you can ditch in case you ended up using it
I'm watching this again for a second time and I think it's hilarious that you guys would even imagine a world where Lynyrd Skynyrd wasn't in the Rock and Roll Hall Of fame. I mean, Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd and Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin are the crowning anthems of rock and roll royalty.
Well I did say I wasn’t sure
My first concert June 77.. JFK stadium in philly 100,ooo in attendance Peter Frampton, Skynyrd ,J Geils, Dickie Betts for some reason we walked up to the stage for skynyrd so glad for that, Steve Gaines right in front of us ,obviously they took the show
I was there to!!!
Ronnie was anti- gun , way back in the day! Thx boys for getting the day off to a good start!
Ronnie was not anti gun, he was not a fan of handguns. I bet he had a collection of rifles and or shotguns. He was a country boy from the South.
It was a different world back then. People didn't worship guns. The NRA was still primarily a hunting organization.
@@dwashington1333 I saw several interviews where he said he was anti-gun.
@@324cmaca southern, ‘good ol boy’ speaking out against gun violence. That’s bravery & putting your money where your mouth is right there. Big props to RVZ!🫡
B.S.
Only gun problem we have now are anti-gunners. Move if you don't want any rights.
Had no idea of the pansies on this site! Low T boys.
Check out their 'brother' band 38 special ~ "Wild Eyed Southern Boys", "Chain Lightning", "Rockin' into the Night", "Hold on Loosely" and more...
Good old rock&roll
You can't go wrong with SKYNYRD
Love this song...and its message.
When I was growing up in the seventies, the Saturday Night Special referred to a .38 cal. revolver, typically a six shooter. They were plentiful and cheap in the bigger cities. Great reaction guys. You're awesome.
Love the Tower of Power album in the background! Talk about one of the best American bands!
"Hand Guns Were Made For Killin' . They Ain't No Good For Nothin' Else" . Ronnie may have been a good 'ol boy that loved to go huntin' & fishin' , but he knew you didn't go huntin' with a hand gun & his lyrics tell you exactly what it's really made for .
They just rocked and hard. The dirty south, and they tell you all about it. Gotta do Working for MCA and Four Walls of Raiford.
A snubnose .38 revolver is what is considered a .38 Special, aka Saturday Night Special. Weapon of choice by criminals back in the day due to it's small compact size for easy concealment and the cheap price you could get them for.
If you can only get one Lynyrd Skynyrd album. The MUST HAVE is Live One More From the Road!! Best one they have by far! It’s a double album. Now one of my favorite songs On The Hunt is not on the album. But it is one of the best Double Live albums ever created!
The guitar in this song makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck!!
You guys are the best, man. I listen to all your stuff and when you get to this stuff right here, the 70s rock, I get to smilin' right along with y'all. Fantastic job🍻
Check out" that smell" and the message of that song..... we're talking real.
Yes. Such a pounding song.
You guys should have your own radio show . I know I would listen. #ROCKON
Great song, and love the Good Times reference. John Amos as James was the man!
Buy every one of those albums you will not regret it . And if you have old school stereo equipment then you are going to hear it right ❤
ELVIS COSTELLO. WATCHING THE DETECTIVES. FROM THE ALBUM "MY AIM IS TRUE". GAME CHANGER.
WAR is a great 70's band I think you guys will really like. They're in a place somewhere between Santana and Sly and the Family Stone.
Y’all gotta be my favorite reactors of music on UA-cam. Do on the hunt, ballad of Curtis loew or searching
If you all get that vinyl get you a street survivor album with the fire behind the guys that's the rare one
I played Skynyrd so much my friends called me Vinny Van Zant
Ronnie Van Zant, the singer, wrote all the lyrics. And he never wrote them down. He said if I can’t remember it, it ain’t good enough!
Best skynryd album for me
One of my first albums was LS “One From the Road”. Double live records. Every song is amazing. Great album cover.
Back in the 1960s there was a flood of cheap revolvers and pistols on American streets, primarily in 22lr, 25 Auto, and 32 Auto, which were the original Saturday Night Specials. Eventually many were outlawed in the 1968 Federal Gun Control Act. Since then pretty much any short barreled handgun that could be cheaply bought clandestinely on the street came to be called a SNP (probably not a lot of 44 cal SNP, so we'll just call it artistic license from the best southern rock band that ever existed). 😊
38 Special is another 70's band. Check out Hold On Loosely.
A “Saturday night special” is typically a cheap handgun (.38 if a revolver or .380 if semi-auto) with a very short barrel so it’s easily concealed, usually bought off the streets. Fun fact: For this song, drummer Bob Burns had to take a break from touring and Artimus Pyle was brought in to replace him. Pyle was given just a couple of days to rehearse the song in a rented Atlanta club before they hit the road again. Producer Al Kooper was rehearsing them, and became confused when the band began playing on the second beat of the second bar. When asked why, guitarist Ed King explained that it all worked out perfectly when they get to the guitar solo. So Kooper grew even more concerned, thinking that one of the subsequent bars had to be a beat short. The band eventually convinced Kooper that there was no need to conserve beats! This was a case of by-the-book Kooper vs. raw-talent Lynyrd Skynyrd - from which Kooper backed down.
Yeah guys they’re rightfully in the hall of fame.
One From The Road is a must-have live album. Sooooo good!
"I'm a Country Boy" from that same album is KILLA'!
On the same album is a track called “Am I Losin’?” Check it out, guys.
These guys were at the top of their game when it came crashing down.
lend a helping hand! Searching, Wino on the street, Preachers Daughter! obscure good ones too!
You Got That Right is a real banger!!!!
I still saw them live about 15 years ago. Great band with tragic losses. They had a lot of quite critical songs like this one. I think you would also enjoy Whiskey Man by Molly Hatchet. I always say when it comes to Southern Rock there is the holy trinity chronologically with Allmans, Skynyrd, and Hatchet. CCR played Southern Rock but were actually not from this area.
Kid Rock did the induction speech at the Hall of Fame back in 06. Its on UA-cam.
Truly legendary !! 😎🔥🎸
I got their vinyl 😊
My band literally just learned this song. One of my FAVORITES to sing.
When this song came out a .380 was unheard of. An RG .38 special was $50 new or about $30 used, and Saturday night special was any cheap gun of any caliber. I sold guns 1979-1982.They wore out fast. Great reaction guys.
Fellas, please check out I Ain't the One by them. Another really cool groove. Also, if you haven't watched the documentary, you got to check it out. Basically they had a little shack down by the river where they all grew up where they'd go and drink and smoke and that's where they wrote and worked out all their best music. Great story about a great band. Such a tragedy what happened. Who knows the heights they could have reached.
He's describing a .38 special revolver, usually with a 1 1/2 in barrel. Double action, dependable and deadly at close range.
Youi guys need to react to "I ain't the one . Whiskey rock -a roller , "Searchin' , Needle & the spoon , "You got that right . Wino. , Need all my Friends ,Am I losin' , Coming home , Gimme 3 steps. Just to start with !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was I Right or Wrong
@@edmundmiller8229 Yes ,big time. Forgot to mention that one .
Oops sorry! Part III Muscle Shoals is also mentioned in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song; Sweet Home Alabama - Now Muscle Shoals they have the SWAMPERS,,,,, and they've been known to pick a string or two. Lord they get me up so much. They pick me up while I'm feeling blue noe howbout you? I'm pretty sure 😊
.38 aka Saturday night Special. easy to conceal, readily available on the streets, and cheap."for $20 you can buy one too
MOrnin guys
Good Morning!!
Yes, They were inducted into the RRHOF in 2006 👍
Needle and the Spoon.
Yeah this was a great one from them. They have lots. Needle and the spoon is another one I’d recommend checking out. Nasty stuff
Classic... yes....
Can you imagine how much equipment the roadies had to manage with a seven man band?🤪 You gotta have a big stage too when you have a singer, 3 guitarists and a bass player!💯😁❤️✌️
You to brothers are the best at what you do don't stop
Gimme back my bullets another banger from the only and only LS. Ronnie sang many a song with tape on his knuckles from getting jiggy with a band mate. ✌🏻
Ronnie just had a way with words.
He wrote poetry since he was a kid.
The original Saturday night special was a .25 back in the day.💯 They were dirt cheap, $30-50 and easy to find so everybody had 'em. Dat Glock is the banger now!😖❤️✌️
Another great Ed King riff. Legend
Yea the lyrics are all that in this song.
Great Jam !!!! Guys the pistol is actually a .38 Special aka Saturday Night Special and its a revolver. A .380 Automatic is different. Keep on Rockin !!!!
Wife here. Yes they have tons of great bangers . Always loved One More From the Road live album . They have some other sounds listen to I never dreamed .
Great live album from 1976 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, GA.
They need to review this live album. Everything is great on this album. Give me a T for Texas, give me a T for Tennessee.
@@thomasferguson2795 Yep.whole album is great,T for Texas and T for Tennessee is a great song! They just are so great live !
They are in the RnR Hall of Fame
My fav.
In the opening to The Longest Yard this tune kicks in.
Ned from Spain saying yes there is a reason why I'm subscribed to your guys channel and here is a dynamite example. Your views, knowledge and open ears make it a pleasure to watch you talk about songs that are new to you. Different perspectives because of what strikes your sensibilities for me and the wife you guys are just the best. These guys came from some serious poverty and hardship and were going to make it or die trying. All great bands are as tough and together as a gang, make no mistake.
As a Brit I was taken aback, slightly, when they sang trousers, rather than pants, which apparently, Brits from the parts of the UK say pants.
Excellent reaction!!! "Give me three steps" is a must.
Loved this reaction. Hadn't heard this song in a while....so it was a great listening to it with y'all! Great reaction!
