- In September, 1989, the Central Railroad Company of Indianapolis started up a short line on ex NKP tracks on the Cloverleaf line on sections from Kokomo, Indiana with track to Marion, Frankfort and Peru, Indiana. Being power short at the startup, the leased FP7A #97 and F7A 83 from the Indiana Transportation Museum out of Noblesville, Indiana. The museum had painted the ex Milwaukee F units to the Monon Railroad passenger colors for use on their Indiana State Fair Trains. So we take advantage of having F units pulling freight in and out of Kokomo for several weeks before the Central started receiving their power. In this part 1 video, I get scenes of them switching at Marion and at Bell Fiber plant in Marion and later bringing a car back to their plant loaded. This video covers from Marion to near Kokomo. Stay tuned for more action scenes coming up. Thanks for watching. Please like, share and subscribe. Scenes from DVD VH7 (Cera the Cloverleaf Line)
I chased these two units on my bicycle when riding to Swazee. Almost caught them at Herbst. Although 30 years younger I still couldn’t quite catch them. You had a picture in TRAINS MAGAZINE at about this time with these F units crossing the Mississenawa River. I bought a copy and still have it somewhere. Great video Colonel.
That track is so wobbly!
Yes it was.
WOW this amazing! I remember seeing these trains back in early 90s.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed them
Thank you Ladd. Pretty good times with those units. I remember taking you to Kokomo to see the F’s and they weren’t running that day. Sorry you missed that chase. Good day sir
Very exciting video. Love seeing videos on this line
Thank you
This is epic. Thank you from Bedford indiana
Thank you for the kind comments sir
Footage that is not possible nowadays This was a awesome video
Thanks Rick
It's still crazy to me that this ever happened... seeing 83 coupled directly to CSX 86 footers looks so out of place. So glad you got footage while it lasted though
Thank you. Yes I cringe when I think about what happened to this
It’d be nice to see this happen but can’t unfortunately. 83 is stucked in a quarry without its trucks and the people who plan on restoring it and going to repaint it back into MILW 😢
I sure do wish it could but it’s hard to imagine when you see it sitting in that quarry now
96, 72 and the B unit are the ones at the quarry. At some point 96 is to be restored for static display. 83 still is in Noblesville at the park in very sad shape. Last time 83 ran was in 2018. Last I knew it is a parts engine, to keep other engines running for the tourist group that runs train between Noblesville and Atlanta In.
Thanks for that info. It sure would be nice to see these units come back to life
