When the new Tax Scheme was introduced it was without any deductions because Government wants to do away with the deductions but it was available only in the old Income Tax Scheme. Ironically the increased Standard Deduction was allowed only in the new Income Tax Regime. Besides the tax liability was also reduced. Government should reconsider as it will boost savings.

Sir, The last word of Mr. Sheshadri sir is ridiculous. How he will expect agriculture into the tax net Already food inflation is very high. People like me are struggling to spend it . Rice prices will shoot up. That will added burden to poor and middle class. I totally disagree with classification middle class. Everywhere the prices are same. Senior citizens like me thrive only on pension and the interest earned on deposits, mostly bank deposits. I wish the Finance minister had enhanced the exemption limit from Rs. 50000/- to Rs. 100000/-. Very sad that this segment of the society is very badly neglected time and again. We are paying many taxes. We should also develop a mindset to pay income tax. For that the tax rate can be lowered for some years and then when people get used to paying income tax the rate can gradually be increased. Sec 80 G exemtion can be scrapped as many trusts have become commercialized and they can pay tax. Tax payers, for saving some tax are donating but get exemption for 50% of donation only. My few cents: PT#1. This Post election Budget is of no value for me...because the Budget planning has already been done before the elections you can call it as INTERIM BUDGET. PT#2. The Budget is of 48 L crores. ~24 Lakh - GST - Indirect Tax (which is completely governed by GST council); ~8 Lakh - Direct Tax; ~16 Lakh is the Borrowing. Hence the Debt to Income GDP is around 49% (50% is the Threshold standard and danger mark). PT#3. This pudget post elections is only an Annual statement of Account. This is just an Allocation statement. Government is forced to allocate 75 billion dollars on DEFENCE because the previous 70 years khnagresh was sleeping. ( I would leave you to convert this into So Many Lakh Crores) PT#4. I agree with the CBDT directors disclosure stating that 2/3rds of IT payers have come to NEW TAX REGIME. In my own team of around 27-30 people,, most of them, definitely around 7/10 have shifted to the NEW TAX REGIME!! Hence according to me that statement is Absolutely correct! One thing I completely agree with Sreeram sir is Government should encourage Savings....India is functioning on Savings Economy. Nirmala madam is completely oblivious of this concept. Govt should reduce the tax burden for atleast savings account in banks OR Post office savings account incomes.
