  • Want to learn how to create the cool SUPER SAIYAN effect from Dragon Ball Z in real life?
In this intermediate Adobe After Effects tutorial I will show you exactly how to do that!
If you want to follow along with this tutorial, you can download the clip of Walter going postal here:
    bit.ly/2buN8kG
In this tutorial you will learn:
    - How to use Turbulent Noise to create a cool animated fire energy texture
    - How to composite the fire textures into the shot, both in front of and behind Walter
    - How to make the Super Saiyan effect appear in sync with Walter going postal
    - How to add the lightning into the Super Saiyan effect. For this we will be using some basic expressions
    - How to add some camera shake to give the overall effect a little bit more intensity
This is an INTERMEDIATE tutorial. If you are just starting out, check out my After Effects Beginner Tutorial Series here:

Had to comment once more to say an even bigger wow! Bro, I've been watching your videos for years, they are fantastic, selfless and of the highest standards. I am very disappointed with the awful comments by the public though. I make videos professionally and know how much time, effort, and dedication is needed to produce work of this standard.
Comments such as "ugly", "no effort", "mine was better when I was 12", only reveal those individuals' negative, lonely attitudes. They have NO reflection of the work that has been tirelessly created and provided here.
Still loving your work, still Subscribed after 3 years, and still think this channel rocks, a genuine and heartfelt thank you is what you deserve bro!

Hi Merlin, thank you so much for the kind words :)
I think I got myself into deeper waters creating an effect that is so well known that everyone has very set views and strong opinions on how it 'should' look. I appreciate everyone might want this to look different - and everyone is more than welcome to create this effect any way they want. All I intend to do is offer my own way and hopefully help a few people along the way with some general tips and tricks on how to use AE.
I very much appreciate the support!

i know this is old but i think this is a good start. I'd say that the fractal noise should look more like energy, it looks too geometric, and with a little distortion this could look a lot better. Still, it's very helpful.

    Great tutorial :)
Are you german or did you translate it with google translator? I'm confused because in one comment (I think) you said that you're not from Europe :D
My question: can you animate things like Lara Croft here: ua-cam.com/video/6BZrINPzFzo/v-deo.html
in Element 3D? The guy said he rigged it in Maya but I have no idea about rigging and animating in any 3D program :/
Maybe you can do and double exposure or matte painting tutorial. I'm interested more in a duble exposure tutorial, especially keying out a (slowly) moving animal from the background since I tried it a few days ago but it didn't worked as I imagined it (I tried it with roto scoping but that didn't work as well) :)
    Greets from Germany

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  8 років тому

I grew up in Germany. While Element 3D can play back OBJ sequences, it is not a 3D program and thus has no concept of rigging and animating - for that you will have to learn how to use a 3D program :)

    • @krypto61
      @krypto61 8 років тому

      Ha, I knew it :D
      Damn but okay :/

+Gentle Gamer so you started with after effects by making intermediate effects? If so, well done..

***** well, basically, at that time, i was still watching dragon ball and stuff, so i knew how the effects should look exactly and all. so i watched 2-3 tutorials on how to do the super saiyan transformation, kamehameha and flying. But the tutorials werent accurate as well, so i just played around with the effects and got a pretty good result in the end. the only thing that it's missing is some cracking and rocks flying up around me while transforming. But im proud of the video either way.

+Logge I guess some people just hate fun... Seriously though, with any popular effect I guess there's a lot of pre-conceived notions on how it 'should' look and people who think it doesn't look they way they expected it to will go all sour faced

+Surfaced Studio I really liked it when I first saw this effect in another video.but it doesnt speak DBZ to me.it is cool but not what i would expect a super sayian effect to be like.didnt dislike the video though.
can you do a video on the effects done in DBZ light of hope fan film.its on youtube.

Thank you for the feedback - always appreciated and I understand that not everyone liked my version much :) I will put a request on my to-do list, but cannot promise when I might get around to it - there are just too many tutorials to make!

It just hurts me because I can see how much love and effort you put into your videos and it's very demoralizing to get so many downvotes from people which didn't even watch the video.
I hope the rest of the viewers still can motivate you to make more of those vidoes, you make by far the best AE tutorial videos on youtube. I love the format :P

Atleast give some credit while doing a video. I had given you the link for the video earlier and told you to do this tutorial. People like you make youtube a bad place.

+indrajit saha I get tons of people send me links all the time and don't keep track of who sent me what as it's simply not feasible. Apologies if you feel offended

+Surfaced Studio Ok but hopefully don't forget next time cause your channel is one of the best and not giving credit to someone doesn't seem to say good about surfaced studio. Anyways i have nothing against you now.

It's not about 'forgetting'. I get links from thousands of people and I don't keep track of who sent what. I get the same links sent by multiple people, Google spam filters them and I'd have a list a metre long if I had to name everyone who sent me some link at some point in time. Also, if people are sending me links just to get credit - they should probably send them somewhere else ;)
