Dodge Ram Exhaust Manifold Leak Repair!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 чер 2023
- So a fella dropped of his 2005 Dodge Ram off to me with a laundry list of issues! one of the main issues he wanted fixed is the more than common exhaust tik tik tik sound when ya fire these trucks up cold. Sure enough the studs on the exhaust manifold are busted so I figured might as well do a video on how I get the old broken studs outta the heads and swap in a new gasket. I know there are a ton of these trucks out there with the same issue and just thought some of yas might find this video helpful if ya gotta do the same job to your truck or help out a buddy with theirs! also thanks to everyone supporting us by buying some stickers off the website!

Great attitude for knucklebusting projects!
haha thanks! 🍻
Don't make fun at Dodges, they should be praised, as they do make you money to pay the bills and have fun. My buddy siad he loves north american vehicles as they have put four of his kids through university, paid for his house, and toys. He is so busy, hires some of his friends who work on asian vehicle as they don't get much work
03 to 05 3rd gen rams with 5.7s are the best 1500 series trucks ever built
Bullshit!! The only people that say that is the best one has never drove one with Eagle heads. That 45 extra ponies really make a difference.
Following a bag piper up a ladder had me rolling 🤣
🤣🍻
You are ABSOLUTELY hilarious!!!! But also extremely thorough and most helpful!
haha thank you! I'm glad ya think so and found it helpful! cheers 🍻
Great job. This is exaclly what I have as an issue and now know how to repair/replace parts !
Glad it helped! cheers 🍻
Funniest mechanic I've seen on yt so far, thanks for the info in the vid but even more than for making it so entertaining!
wow! that's an awesome comment right there!! thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the videos and I really appreciate it. cheers 🍻
I just did same job same exact way! No fun till it's done! Nice one!
"Does everything have to be a fight with these thing's? "
Buddy, the answer you seek is in the center of the grill 😆
Its 25 years old….and still running….that’s why its better than ford or Chevy…
Go Pete Go!
Always great fun and info.
We used to quote those jobs for manifolds, exhaust gaskets and hardware then go to battle with the rust gods... Now we just quote for head gaskets and pull them complete with manifolds still on the heads and send them off to the machine shop to have the bolts extracted and heli-coiled... We've lost a few jobs that way but better than losing a good tech that's had enough of fighting rusty manifolds on 20 year old trucks...
Good stuff Pete!
I was wondering how to keep my hood up, and why there's no metal rod for it 😂... I learned something new.. Great sense of humor in your video, love it! I definitely got to get my exhaust manifold repaired now I know it's the cause of the ticks
Glad I could help! 🍻
Great video. Good lighting and camera angles. You know what you are doing and gives us all confidence.
I appreciate that! thank you! 🍻
Amazing video, great camera angles really show what you did here well. Your a funny guy love it 👍
Wow, thank you, I really appreciate that!!! 🍻
Another NICE ONE! Received my sticker order thanks! Now its time to decorate lol... CHEERS and Keep er going!!!
haha that's awesome! cheers 🍻 I love the support!!!
I did a 4.7 exh. manifold gaskets on an'05 Dakota. Some of the rear port bolts were broken off /gone already. I pinpricked the frame under the rear stantions for the upper control arms and ground off the welds, so i could get an angle drill in there.. I ended up putting helicoils in all 4 bolts in the rear ports, because they didn't feel right tightening them down. Also, both manifolds inner 2 ports were an eighth inch taller than the outers with a staightedge, so i ground them down close with a grinder, and finished up with a file. When it was all done the steering wheel was dead nuts straight and I ended up with the truck after the owner passed away. That was 6 years ago and its still quiet! I got all the hardware from Dodge except for the plastic wheel well clips($7.62 each ×14).
That’s fricken nuts, who in there right mind would want to be a mechanic. Dam nice work dirty hands👍
haha thank you! cheers 🍻
Great content Pete! Just grabbed some stickers off your site. Cheers 🍻
Awesome thank you! 🍻
Great energy man I loved this video!
Awesome! Thank you!🍻
I drove my parents 04 Ram Laramie all through High School, and ALWAYS had this tick, trying super hard to convince them to let that poor girl go to me, at 330k km it needs some love!
Great video.
cheers 🍻
Your amazing Pete. That looked like a tough job 🍺🍺🍺
well thank you! it was a bit of a job to do but I've seen worse! cheers 🍻
Nice one Pete… this is why you make the big bucks ✌🏻 cheers 🍻
haha well I don't know about the big bucks part 🤣 but cheers! 🍻🤪🤣
Got an 06 with the 4.7 with a P0296 code. And has a few broken bolts that I'm about to tackle. Fel like I owe you a beer now for watching this
haha cheers 🍻
Great video. Thanks for reminding me why I'am not a tech anymore. 😊
haha thanks! and no problem 🤣🤪🍻
This is the best repair video ive had to watch 😂😂
haha I'm glad ya enjoyed it! 🍻
Oh yeah baby!! She does like it like that 🤣😁 You flipping rock my Canadian brother!!!!
🤣🤣 yeah she does! cheers 🍻
Bro I came across your channel and I am dying laughing! Good content!!
haha well I'm glad you're enjoying it! 🤣🍻
I have a 1997 Laramie SLT 4x4 with 156 thousand miles on it. It's a little beat up, she's quite and runs amazing. Has the locker 3.88 rear-end.
Nice job again Pete. ☃️👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!🍻
It’s true, Chrysler products are not the most reliable, but after owning Chevy and Toyota trucks, the Ram Hemi has been the most fun, best handling, most comfortable truck I’ve personally owned. Our Ram has almost 160,000 miles on it.
Awesome job, you showed exactly how to do it without using the speed clips in the video like most
I appreciate that! thank you 🍻
Nice one! I do it the same way as you for those rusted and broken off bolts!
Nice One! cheers 🍻
What a nightmare job and the reward is never enough. Knuckles and everything get destroyed. Great job!
haha ya got that right! thanks and cheers 🍻
Great video, getting ready to do the job, rthanks again
right on! cheers 🍻
Awesome can't wait to watch this.
sweet! hope ya enjoy it! cheers 🍻
As always Pete NICE ONE stay safe
thank you! 🍻
so im machanically inclined but i took my 06 mega cab hemi in to get those done man they suck to do i paid 900 a side to have it fixed , it included new manifolds and everything but anyways love the vids
thanks for watching! cheers 🍻
I had an 05 with around 115k miles on it and I had to do both manifolds before I sold it. I now have a 2014 Ram 1500. Got it with 48k miles, it's needed 3 till now all covered under warranty, now at 98k it needs another on the driver's side so I'll be doing this one unfortunately. My dad has a 2020 and his has already had 2 as well!
Every single one is doing that..come on Dodge! Could a fella put never seize on there for the next time? If so, why doesnt Dodge put it on there factory?
Great video of a common problem. Thanks.
This guy makes it looks easy!!!😂😂
haha thanks! 🍻
Nice work! About to do the same on my truck, the only thing im gonna do different is have the manifold machined flat, they were new 30k ago... mind they were not OEM... So hopefully no more warping
Right on! cheers 🍻
Well now i have the knowledge and excuse to fix my 02 dodge
Tires look pretty slick too.
You could always make it as a comedienne if you give up your day job. Well done my fiend.!
haha well thank you! I really appreciate that 🍻
Got my she dangles sticker! Thanks Pete!
that's awesome! cheers 🍻
GET THIS MAN TO 20K SUBS LET'S GO
thank you! 🍻
You Crack me up buddy .. Nice one 👍
haha thanks! cheers 🍻
gm, has brasckets that bolt to the head and will clamp down onto the manifold with another bolt and press the manifold tight to the head
GREAT CONTENT...STILL MAKES ME CRINGE WHEN YOU DON'T USE BEAVER PISS AKA PENITRATING OIL
haha yeah I've got a bad habit of not using it as much as I should 🤣 I'll try to use it more! 🍻
@@rednecksdirtyhands I'm just thankful you got them all!!! Nothing worse then flush breaks
@@rednecksdirtyhands Thanks for replying...always appreciate that bruther
I drive a chevy no problems there pete trashing the Polaris again Pete okay us Polaris guys we can take it lol. 😂😂 great work out the dodge today you made it look easy but I know it wasn't cheer's pete . You earned that deer today buddy but i'am sure there was more then one lol.
haha 🤣 it's all in good fun! thanks, it was well deserved beer.. or three 🤪🍻
Good penetration on the blob welds there. I always struggled with that lol
lmao "good penetration" that's what she said! 🤪🤣🤣🍻 I struggled with that too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🍻
Great job man i have to do the same thing on my 07
cheers 🍻
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it! 🍻
Good job Pete MINT
thank you! 🍻
The next gen dodge pickups had a bad run with he exhaust leaks too.
Looks as fun as the Ford 4.6/5.4, which was notorious for egr tube rotting out n taking threads with it on drivers side, think i put one set on mine n two on moms truck.
Good job.
Thank you! Cheers!🍻
Lower steering shaft right from Dodge 160.00.
that's a surprise!! not too often the dealer is cheaper than the aftermarket....but lately I've been seeing the prices of parts from NAPA going through the roof! thanks for the info! I'll give kawartha dodge a call and check 🍻
@@rednecksdirtyhands I got mine from dealer in Lindsay, but assume all the dealers would be same price??? Lindsay driveline used to replace the u-joints in them at one point as well!
I have a 1970 International Harvester Scout2. Never had much problems besides it rusted away
My favorite breaker juice is PB boltblaster
Good job
Thanks! 🍻
Dude, Awesome!
Thanks! 🍻
I have a manifold leak on my 4.0 v6 ohv. It’s in a ford Aerostar. I hope it isn’t a nightmare to fix. I already had a new motor put in😞
That was a awsome video and I love the comedy value too. Would you suggest changing the bolts as a maintenance item before she spits them out?
thank you! I mean I suppose ya could change them out bit no matter what it's going to be a bear of a job at any point really and eventually they all seem to leak...🍻
The 5.4 is the most hated engine for consumer and the most beloved for the mechanics pockets.
haha ya got that right!! I've done more manifolds on them 5.4's than ya can shake a stick at! 🤣🍻
Great info. I always wondered how pro mechanics got those rusty manifold bolts out.
haha thanks! 🍻
adjust the door striker and she will line up better
Hahaha Pete! Man! Your a fucking comedian. Haha great video probably gonna be using this as my guide if I do my own. Thanks
haha thanks! glad ya liked it 🤣🍻
I did thanks man 👍👍
Right on! cheers 🍻
I have a 2005 with those two rear bolt on the passenger side missing their heads. Just like the one you were working on those 10mm are no longer 10mm or really usable at all to get out. I was good to see you torching them off. Since I don't have a torch, I am thinking I will first try cleaning one of the bolt heads up and welding a nut on it to see if I can get them out that way. If that doesn't work, I will have to spend a lot of time cutting them out with a Dremel.
I hope it works out good for ya! 🍻
@@rednecksdirtyhands Sadly, it didn't. I think it was likely at least partly the settings on my welder. I decided to cut the bolt heads off with an angle grinder and a Dremel. Getting those bolts out was simple. The one that was broken a little into the block was a different story. I tried and tried with no success with the 110V welder on flux-core. I was feeling pretty defeated. I tried again today using 7014 rods with my welder in stick mode. That achieved good penetration, at least good enough to get the bolt moving. Since I didn't want to have to deal with the flux-coating that stick welding produces every time I broke the weld off while trying to get the bolt out, I switched it back to flux-core, and on the third weld It came out. Now to see if I have anything amount the stuff I have to clean up the gasket off the heads.
That had to cost someone a pretty dollar.
GOOD job
Thanks 👍🍻
I've been dreading this with my dodge. Hasn't broke a bolt YET. However I know its comin sooner or later😂🍻
haha yeah only a matter of time! 🤣🍻
Change the bolts out now before they break
Have you tried that" Creep Deep" penetrating spray? Love watching your show!
I haven't tried it before but I've seen some other fellas use it and it looks like it works so I might giver a go! thank you and cheers 🍻
The more cancer warning the better it works
Im dieing the stress of my manifold leak on my toyota is now gone. Was wondering if i should get a thicker gasket, seems like you did, also wondered if i should use gasket sealer, and you did. Hows it running? Thanks for the laughs
I had a quick question. Did you check the manifold or warpage? I saw other videos saying that the manifold warm and that’s why the bolts brake causing the exhaust leak. I’m wondering if I should buy new manifolds ahead of time since I have the same manifold leak
yeah the manifold was good on this truck but it is a good idea to replace them just to be safe, the only reason I didn't was to save the fella a bit of money 🍻
If you don’t mind me asking, what’d you charge a side to do that job ?
I did quite a bit of work on that truck at the same time but that would have been a couple of hundred to do the one side plus the new hardware and gasket 🍻
You’re working on more mopars because people love em more than gm or ford .
Does it affect the performance if it has manifold tic
What year is that, I have a 2017 and the dipstick tube makes it impossible
Hey Pete how did you get that scar beneath your eye? I have one too i was accidentally hit with a #1 wood golf club.
A bull mastiff dog that we rescued years ago decided one day that my face looked like it would be a good meal! needless to say I'm still here and he ain't lol! he tore my cheak and ear apart but not my spirit 🍻 I was 18 at the time...seems like forever ago but I'll never forget it lmao 🤣
Love everything about my ram1500 but the motor
Love the accent
haha thanks eh! 🤣🍻
Nice 1
It’s your manifolds
Cold start the metal is cold and dry until it warms up and expands it can seal the leak a little therefore the tick quieting down to going away completely.
I hate how manufacturers can make things on there vehicles so cheap and garbage.
Make the bolts TOO SMALL therefore they rust off leading to said problems 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ even the damn bed bolts on these trucks are tiny and can rust off.
What did the engine light turn out to be?
If you are no not tooo busy I have a 2012 5.7 needs a passengers side manifold job . A shop did the drivers side they just changed the head ( unnecessary ? )
Hey Pete...love your channel...is that your white camaro ?
thank you! no its a customers...there might be a video coming of that one soon! she needs some lovin 🤣🍻
My Dakota did the same thing
yeah the dodges are well known for leaking exhaust manifolds! 🤣🍻
Why does the sound the manifold makes go away when the car is warmed up? Is there any issue, outside of the noise, with driving it with an exhaust leak?
everything expands when it heats up which closes up the gap between the manifold and the head and the noise usually goes away or at least gets quieter. I know alot of fellas that just keep driving their trucks with that noise and it doesn't seem to affect anything 🍻
That wasn't some bud light in the back right side of the fridge was it???
I'm surprised you didn't do the passenger side with a broken bolt visible
I will end up doing it...still waiting for some other parts for the truck so I just figured I'd do a video of showing how to do it in the meantime but the otherside definitely needs to fixed as well only a matter of time before it starts tikin away too lol 🍻
@@rednecksdirtyhands I figured as much, cheers man great video!
What’s going on with the banshee?
haha I was wondering if anyone would say something about it! 🤣 it belongs to my buddy Cody and it needs a few things....probably do a video on it 🍻
My 4.7 been ticking for years even after being fully rebuilt timing tensioner lifters the whole Sha bang. Still ticking. This is fucking crazy really wondering if this is what's Makin my 03 tick tick tick away. No mechanical problems though man 220k miles super fucking reliable trying to keep her tip top💪 0 rust on belly flat bed w a ladder rack she's been a good puller.
Front wheel bearings is another fail point. Do they not grease these when you get a lube job? My mechanic was not happy about doing that job, it must be tough.
Theyre sealed bearings dude. Do some research. One of my 3rd gen rams has 300k on original wheel bearings
Looks like that truck was in Milwaukee all it's life
would a lose exhaust mise with the engine temperature?
I haven't seen any issues from it causing a temp issue..🍻
Not a fun job. Sometimes I use a zip(burp) gun to rattle some of the rust out. Usually works good. Have fun
thank you! yeah thats a good tip and worth givin a go for next time! cheers 🍻
Pete, my comment was more for your readers than for you. Your a very smart guy, I didn’t mean to tell you how to do it. Cheers. Rick
sounds the same as my 2005 dodge dakota i was thinking about doing this sometime soon because its annoying
Probably cheaper just to bolt in a rebuilt motor lol
🤣🍻
