Yea I deff agree or for youth hunting or anyone wanting to know about guns this video is deff a good start before you go to the range for the first time this and the gun safety video and the range etiquette video would be must have for any hunters saftey course or any Leo's
Don't apologize for teaching the newbies... I think that it is great that you are doing so. I really wish that I had access to information like this when I was first starting out!
I would never make any assumptions about another man's phallus, nor am I particularly interested in imagining it, but any man who is afraid to take responsibility for his own safety and his family's lives by carrying a firearm for defense is clearly lacking in testosterone production. My penis is none of your concern, Capt Trdl, but you might want to consult a doctor about your testicles.
For someone who has no idea what a firearm, or gun, is. I think this video would be very informative. Perhaps some of those people out there who think we are buying full auto, assault type weapons will learn something.
No, you got something wrong. The media calls them Military-style Assault weapons, thank you for reading and I hope you apply this knowledge the next time you talk in the perspective of libtards.
I have been around guns all of my life so there wasn't much here for me, but I do really appreciate this video because I will be sending it to lots of people that will really learn a lot. Thank you Eric. This is a VERY valuable video for so many.
Yeah everyone needs to watch this video speacily the libtards liberals who don't know jackshit about guns or common sense or busniees or god given rights that slow not be inferge or any other thing that matters
As a person who grew up and lives in a country with very strict gun laws, your video is indeed informative. I enjoy all of them very, very much as they are the window into the world of guns and actual, rational people who owns and shoots them. Ignorance can be remedied, stupidity does not. So for that, I thank you for teaching me about guns and the shooting community.
I've been shooting guns for 38 years. I'm almost 50. I've learned several things from this video. It's worth the time to sit through what you already know to get to what you don't. Peace...
I've never left a comment on a UA-cam video before. But I did want to say that I enjoy your videos, I find your information to be extremely correct and accurate, and I wanted to thank you for the information that you put out and the way in which you make your videos. How many people understand the various kinds of actions or types of guns and even fewer know how to identify them including the law enforcement community. I'm a retired law enforcement officer and in my day the kind of firearms training we got consisted of 50 rounds of practice and 50 rounds to qualify twice a year. We were fairly large or medium to large city. Chiraq this to encourage you and tell you to keep up your fine work
That is a very valid point. As a gun person myself I want people to understand firearms, wether they use firearms or don't. Maybe then they would be able to really get into the use of firearms and understand them better.
This was really well done. I am a firearm instructor and really appreciate how concise you were with these explanations and made it easy for someone new to understand. I am a seasoned firearm owner and watched this from beginning to end thoroughly enjoying it. Thank you for all you do from the firearm community
Even if somebody isn't interested in guns, or even hates guns, videos like this are interesting just from the perspective of machine design. Designing a functional firearm is a neat engineering challenge, and the evolution of that engineering is worth studying for its own sake. I really do wonder if something will come along eventually that's superior to the basic semiautomatic action we know and (many of us) love today. Or maybe something will change in how magazines work. Maybe somebody young who finds and watches this video will devise something revolutionary someday.
fakecubed I agree, as a mechanical engineering undergrad it's this kind of stuff that makes me say damn, humans really are smart. And I'm definitely interested to see where technology goes from here.
fakecubed personally i feel the next advancement would be handheld railguns. It completely eliminates the need for chemical propellant and casings and all that. Imagine and AR type gun where it had a magazine/hopper with just bullets that could be fed and fired. Just food for thought.
Kurtz Marxim batteries, just like they do now. Now granted, the batteries needed to power such a device would probably need to fill up a 10x10 room, but keep in mind the first computers in the 1950s took up like double that and had like 3 megabytes of storage and 2 kilobytes of ram. My point being things get more compact and sophisticated as time goes on, so i dont think its impossible.
As a total scifi nerd, I find the idea of electromagnetically launched projectiles quite appealing, however I think battery technology is really going to have to come a really long way before we get there. There was a time when I thought electric cars would be the driving force (no pun intended), but now I think it's mobile computing devices like phones and tablets that will push the limits of energy storage. Still, I think it's awfully hard to beat chemical propellants. Maybe if we manage to miniaturize energy production right in the gun, perhaps with hydrogen fuel cells or even something really crazy like a tiny molten salt nuclear reactor or even fusion power, but at a certain point you have to wonder if these things could take a hit from a bullet and not cause more problems than they're worth on the battlefield, and what sort of weight savings you can even get. Railguns are obviously the future of larger weapon systems, of course. The Navy is looking into them for surface warfare but right now the only mobile platform capable of generating enough electrical power is a big warship. We've got a long ways to go.
Great video! I don't know much about guns, never shot one and now I know how they work (at least very basically!). It's interesting to kind of follow how the train of thought developed as people invented more efficient actions. The Garand is particularly cool.
Great video as always Eric. Very informative for anyone unfamiliar with the range of firearm actions available. You mentioned different types of semi-auto actions and I know that while I'm relatively familiar with DI and long/short travel pistons, a follow up tutorial with info on other actions like delayed blowback, roller-block etc. would be fantastic.
Great Class. My son and I are expats living in BC Canada. I've been teaching my boy about shooting: 1. Red Ryder BB gun 2. up to Pellet gun 3. now moving back to states and preparing for picking out guns. This was a great class for my boy. we went on to other classes

Another AWESOME Video!!! I’ve been using firearms for 35-40 years and I learned something!! This was one of your best videos ever. I’m going to show this video to every newbie gun person I know and I’m going to share this with my local gun guy so he can use it for all those people that come into his store and have no idea about actions. Thank you thank you thank you. Another AWESOME Video!!!
I knew some things, but you helped me learn more. I think it's important that we always keep an open mind and value an opportunity to learn, and not criticize something as being "elementary". I'm glad you make these kinds of videos. Some people may know even less than I do, so they need this info, even if it is basic. And a more knowledgeable person can still benefit as well by having a refresher every now and then.
dude.. ive never heard anybody that's as knowledgeable and well spoken about firearms as you guys. you make sometimes complicated things such as caliber and action type hella easy to understand. appreciate the videos man. ( do a video on MOA!) lol please
Outstanding Eric.... I just played it for my 10 year old Granddaughter. She loved it! She trains and competes in the CMP .177 cal "Air Gun League" and the Beloit Rifle Club .22 cal "Silhouette League". She started the read the the string of comments that CobaltBob started.... she had a really confused look on her face.... then laughed when she realized it was a joke and had to read each one out loud! Keep up the good work!
Dear Eric, I have read and watched a lot of content on firearms over the last years, and honestly, I did not expect I would learn a lot from this video. However, I actually understand the more obscure action types a lot better now! Thank you! Kind regards from Amsterdam
I wanna thank you. This video popped up at the perfect time. Currently enrolled at Sonoran desert institute and reading about this right now. This video makes the reading make sense.
As someone that has quite a few years of firearms experience and is currently in gunsmith school I still find this video extremely interesting as there are more than a few types of guns I have not encountered yet.
I know this is an old thread, but I am using it to teach my two new son in laws who have never shot a weapon in their life. I'm asking them to learn theory as much as possible so they can make sense of it by the time I place a weapon in their hand. So thank you for the contents. Internally grateful.
Love these kind of videos..being a person that doesnt know about guns.. Its pretty daunting somtimes to ask anything about guns.. Esp some technical gun related jargon.. That what i love about this channel.. Very newbie friendly
this was a fantastic learning opportunity, because guns are not common at all in the country where I come from, some of these words had me on google constantly, I was not even aware that you could have different types of gun firing mechanisms....thanks again
i know plenty about all these actions and i still really enjoyed it. its definitely a very well detailed video and i hope folks who arent knowledgeable about firearms get to see it so they can see what sort of laws folks on the left are trying to implement. you guys and other channels like TGC, Hickok andf his sons, sooch and everyone else i believe do the american people a great service and i can say I've learned much from all of you. thank you
Thank you for the video. As a 4 decade plus shooter, hunter, carrier, I know all of this, and yet I still sit and watch the entire thing. Only a gun enthusiast knows what I mean. This makes me pine for my old Browning Falling Block 30-06. Why the heck did I get rid of it? Most accurate deer hunter I have ever owned. Lesson: never sell a gun. Just store it in a safe.
I'm on my journey to collecting every single 12 gauge action and I learned about a few other actions that I did not know about like the drop action and the straight Pole action
Well explained! Very useful for novice shooters and generic people unaware of the generic guns. Well appreciated! Defiantly a video i'll ask my 9yr old girl to watch. Even over here in Holland
Very well done. I am glad you included muzzle loaders. I remember being perplexed the first time I saw an inline smoke pole. I would have included a flintlock in the video. BTW. Do not apologize for providing "basic" information, there are new shooters everyday. I love that Greener.
TY IraqVeteran8888....Been shooting the better part of the last half of a century. Still awesome listening to you put so many guns through their paces! Stone cold prefessional....You nailed it brother! Darryl Former pukin buzzard... Kudos to you sir
Loved the video Devil. No one is above rehearing something that they know they know, there's always something you're going to forget. Well done, Semper Fi.
I would love to see a more in depth video on older actions like flintlock, breechblock, converted breechblock, etc. I think it would be a good follow up video for this. Honestly I haven’t looked to see if there is a video about that so I am going to go ahead and look that up! Iv8888 love all of your videos you explain so well and comprehensively that anyone wanting to learn about any of the firearms you have covered would be well informed and not be confused. Thank you for your time and effort put forth into these videos!
The amount of semi-auto actions are crazy. Long recoil, short recoil, DGI, Gas Piston, Delayed blowback, roller delayed, flapper lock, toggle lock, gas trap, and many more I can't think of. Some of these are also select fire actions the most common full-auto action would be open bolt.
I didn't learn anything new except a couple types of single actions I've never used but I still enjoyed the video. Your precise language and explanations are satisfying and I just enjoyed watching ya dink with a few firearms. Great vid for new sbooters for sure!
Excellent video. I have not seen a more thorough gun video than this one in quite some time. Appreciate all of the time and effort you put into creating this video. Job well done!
I really want those 30 caliber clip magazines that will make my guns fire 200 rounds per second, want one for all my guns even my muzzleloaders, just imagine a muzzleloader able to fire 200 rounds per second, the smoke cloud........
I find your educational vlogs not only interesting and informative, but necessary in today's world of hyperinformation. Clear, concise, factual, and relatively easy to understand. Superb job.
A large, heavy safe that you can bolt to floors and walls is perfect for firearms you won't need immediate access to. A small, quick open handgun safe that you can easily access is good for your home defense weapon, if you have kids who might find it.
Thanks for this. I knew nothing about guns. I'm going to do my Canadian firearm safety course in a week which includes a written test. The book I'm supposed to study only shows a drawing of the outside of a gun with its action type labelled. It will be much easier to remember the types now that I understand how each of them work.
Hey thanks for the video, I'm one of those newbies, I live in Canada and guns are not part of our culture, so learning anything about them is difficult if you don't have a family member who has a license. Im currently trying to get my license to own a fire arm and Im trying to absorb as much knowledge about firearms as possible before I do my course. This video was great, you make actions so simple to understand, great job and thank you again for that. wish me luck. getting a firearms license in this country is not easy.
Don’t apologize for your videos to trolls this is great information for anyone neat to see the rifles in any video regardless of the makeup of conversation thanks again for sharing your rifles
Good video! I think something that could help, especially for newbies, is when talking about specific mechanisms like an ejector or hammer put an indicator like an arrow pointing at the mechanism in the still shots. I like this video and think it’d be a cool springboard for a series on more in depth looks at each style of action with many examples through the years. Then add some more obscure actions in there too.
*I* am one of those n00bs and this was a fantastic video and everything i could have hoped for when i clicked on it. Great comprehensive and articulate explanation of the most ubiquitous gun types out there. I really appreciated how you explained all those different mechanisms. And 30 minutes of straight concise terminology, no jump cuts, just great oration. Thanks so much for making this video. So much info in one place! Also i just had to comment on the fact that on the wall behind you is a BASEBALL BAT with RAZOR blades all over it, i had a "lol wtf" moment there hahahahah 😆
Did not know about a; "straight pull" type of bolt action rifle. My main experiences with rifles has been the M-16 in my USMC days,( more years ago than I care to think about), and my Marlin 30-30. Good video.
I loved the level of introduction. I fully expected to find too much 'old hat.' Instead it was a fun trip down memory lane (e.g., Martini action). It has inspired me to take a few guns out of the safe and continue that trip down memory lane.
Great video for people who may just be starting out. Even though I’m a experienced shooter I enjoyed your lesson. You have a great knowledge of firearms. Keep up the great work!
For the new people maybe a diagram for each action. Have been subscribed with you since you did the videos on cleaning the Mossin stock. You have always been about the information. Thanks for your dedication and knowlwdge
This video should be MANDATORY for any journalist who wants to cover or present ANY story relating to firearms. Well done, Eric!

I actually don't mind hearing anything about firearms, I enjoy the conversation periode and iraqveteran8888 I can always count on what they say.
I'm new and I really appreciate this.
I'm jealous of any man who's got enough guns of the right types to actually make this video. Some of those are really sweet.

2 Pump Action.
3 Lever Action.

5 Semi automatic.
6 Revolvers.

Great video getting more seriously into firearms and really appreciated the way this was broken down.
Im a gunutz and own about all type of action on is table
I send this video to my dad , cousin and uncle what a great vids
Thanks eric !
CountryVetLiving don’t forget the baby skull seeking bullets
I find your educational vlogs not only interesting and informative, but necessary in today's world of hyperinformation. Clear, concise, factual, and relatively easy to understand. Superb job.
I know all this stuff, watched it anyway. You don’t have to explain yourself, Eric!
Thanks, I've fired a Garand a couple times but didn't notice the Op Rod was exposed
I remember something similar to this when I took my firearms course years ago here in Canada (basic firearms safety and handling) for us Canucks 🇨🇦
Great video explaining action types and why.A lot of UA-camrs forget the why in their videos.
How about a video on gun storage solutions. Safes, cabinets, and wall hangers. Hidden compartments. What is the wall behind you?
A large, heavy safe that you can bolt to floors and walls is perfect for firearms you won't need immediate access to. A small, quick open handgun safe that you can easily access is good for your home defense weapon, if you have kids who might find it.
I've got both of those. I'm looking at building a "gun room" in the basement. Also looking for ways to hide items around the house for accessability.
By far one of the best firearm channels
Don’t apologize for your videos to trolls this is great information for anyone neat to see the rifles in any video regardless of the makeup of conversation thanks again for sharing your rifles
From Canada.....been watching for a few years. Thank you. You are awesome.
great info
Great for showing/teaching my grandchildren!
People who don't understand guns shouldn't be able to report on them, this is an amazing video for any people who don't know much about firearms.
Well done Eric. There is no such thing as enough informational videos. Thanks for taking the time to make this. God Bless!!😎👍
Very good knowledgeable to beginners video buddy thanks I’m 58 and have had or shot pretty much all of them it a very good tutorial !
I'd love to see more about those other pistol actions you mentioned, like blowback, etc.
Thank you for all you and the team do to educate and support our 2A rights! Get content as usual!
Education is power! Maybe some people in the media will learn something but they will still try to turn into evil. Good video!
Never assume people know about firearm actions. Most people don't have a clue.
