I can relate. My ex bf had a violent history... With friends, his brother, even strangers. But he grew up with the cops around here. When he got violent with me, I got to my car, called the police, then WAITED half an hour for them to come. They arrived, spoke to me about 2 seconds, went inside to speak with him for about 45 minutes. The whole time I waited in my car. Then they came out and arrested me. I had never been arrested before, never been in trouble, not so much as even a traffic ticket in almost a decade. But I spent 3 days in jail and never did find out what my ex said but they believed him and never asked me shit. When I tried to tell them my side of the story they told me to save it for the judge. Ultimately, I was cleared of any wrongdoing. I went out and bought a gun and I won't be calling the police for help again. This is why battered women won't speak up about what's happening to them and it sucks. Actually, and probably moreso for battered men, I imagine.... Sorry for the rant. They started asking SO many questions even asked the cousins bday and I didn't know it. They acted like I had.stolen her. They asked to search the car and of course had nothing to hide so let them do their thing. They literally turned my car upside down! Even dismantled the carseat with the baby in it! NEVER again will I agree to that even knowing I have absolutely NOTHING to hide!

They find young, or vulnerable, or both people and twist everything that they say around... until they can't take it anymore. one day I hope the shoe is on the other foot and these detectives are being interrogated and accused of something they did not do....SHAME ON THEM!!!!!
what a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE interrogator. You dont accuse someone of lying because their eyes are moving in different directions. I know there is a theory about eye movement and truthfulness but alot of that can be chalked up to faulty nerves, which is explainable by their grilling him. Catching a kid in small inconsistencies like "I thought you said you patted him on the back AND shook his hand" is not indicative of him lying. Its indicative of his goddamn nerves being shot from two grown men grilling him like a Sunday burger.
Yeah, and if your story is exactly the same every time you tell it, they accuse you of having "rehearsed" your story because small inconsistencies are normal when ppl are telling the truth. Never talk to the police.
They accused him of making too much eye contact, this would be hilarious if the outcome hadn't been so horrible. Thankfully, they've all been released! Well, and have a shitload of money coming their way hopefully(and most likely).
The rooms are always so bland so that it drives the suspects crazy when they have to sit there for hours on end. But I do agree. Some potted plants, a framed photo of the words "Live, Laugh, Love" and maybe some throw pillows with blue birds on them. Maybe one of those electric fireplaces to cozy up the room and a white shag rug.
This is rediculous, too bad in his innocence answers the detectives who are using intimidation tactics and are downright rude and abrasive without needing. This kid respects authority enough to keep his cool when being interrogated and answers as honestly he can. I'd like to reach through this monitor to throttle those detectives. No need for hard core bad cop tactics. They should know browbeating a frightened youth usually ends up with the kid so scared he can't remember anything. Thumbs down on these two.
Just for a little history on this case.. these cops were eventually found to be wrong, wrong, and wrong.. Members of the family have settled a wrongful imprisonment lawsuit against the police officers in 2014. Police agencies have called this a textbook example of how false confessions can occur. The Lawsuit claimed Evansville officers coerced a false confession from William Hurt after a four-hour interrogation without an attorney present. William, Deadra and Andrea Hurt were all teenagers in June 2012 when they were arrested in connection with the death of Marcus Golike. William Hurt was charged with murder, robbery resulting in bodily injury and criminal confinement. He refused a plea deal and was acquitted after a short trial in 2013. The charges were dropped against both girls as well. Which I could tell just by watching this video he wasnt really lying he was just bad at telling a story in the right order and kept trying to fix it and tell it like he thought they wanted to hear. Poor kid. What a nightmare. So glad he didnt take a plea!!!! He could of been facing 65 years in prison if he had.
This is what police work looks like when you could careless about finding out who the guilty person is and just trying to charge someone regardless if there guilty or not.

An they're sweating him over ridiculously minor an irrelevant inconsistencies, that they believe may indicate he's lying about more. You're lying, because we know that you heard the door close.. REALLY, what cause somebody else told them that. lol I know it's their job to intimidate and implicate ANYONE they can, but come on.. He's totally oblivious to the situation, and the police are TOO DUMB to even see that he doesn't understand it in the same way that they're saying it. Idiots... This is the fastest I've heard Miranda Rights read aloud by the police in a long ass time. 😳
There are too many innocent people in jail, because you put an inexperienced, likely scared person, who may know something about a crime that they didn’t commit, up against 2 highly trained interrogators with the taste of blood and a “win at all costs” mentality. That’s why our criminal justice system is so broken. Detectives just want to get the confession. That’s their only concern. The prosecution won’t call certain witnesses or introduce something that may negatively affect their case. Even if it means more likely leading to the truth.
Should these suspects be lawyered up ? Even older suspects are interrogated without council. I don't understand it (from UK)
Its his right to ask for a lawyer, he will be informed of his rights, but thats it. This kid goofed up from the start.

Do you want to be in the first, second or third position? Third is going to prison, I don’t know about second but you need to start telling the truth and don’t leave out any details. You’re all over the place, if you’re innocent you wouldn’t be all over the place and looking at me in the eyes , …

I grew up wondering why people gave the police a bad name, unil in my early 20s, I got attacked pretty badly and really didn't know who the attackers were. I soon found out what the detectives are like. I still can't decide if they're evil or psychopathic.
Did they try to force you to confess to brutally assaulting yourself? Wouldn't be too surprising if they did.
Occasionally both. But usually speaking one or the other
I can relate.
The interrogation already had me riled up, lol 🤣
@@retard_activated that's disgusting! Scumbags! Your ex too.. I hope you got over that okay.

This kid was innocent. This is the *PERFECT* of why you never talk to the police, even if you're innocent, even as a witness. And while we're on the topic, never submit to a polygraph, even if you're innocent. And never let cops search your belongings, especially your car, even if you have nothing to hide. You have these rights for a reason. Use them.
Totally agree! I learned that the hard way! Got pulled over once for my blinker not working. Had my 2 daughters one around 8-9 at the time and a newborn and the little girl from next door, a distant cousin a couple years older than my oldest daughter.
I've always wondered how people can confess to something they didn't do....i sure know why now!

They're desperate

Very well said! I feel exactly the same. You can see how young people are browbeaten into false confessions.
