We need to jettison all Globalism, not increase it. Secretary Rice is an extraordinary person but not when it comes to globalization.

We are about to face a complete economic meltdown. Israel just announced that 25% of its people got laid off already! Given the enormous tensions that existed already before the crisis within the US and within Europe and versus China, it would be a miracle if this wouldn't end in numerous civil and international wars.

rocket49 do we have to do anything that extreme, or we can can we just say NO, and govern ourselves?
I wonder if the real worry is that we will just war with one another, and then they will be “forced” to come in and intervene?
      I’m Naïve, I don’t think we will.
I think most people are good, and we don’t want to harm each other.

"The US economy can't really function in isolation" says Ms Rice. Has anyone seriously suggested a North Korea-style isolation? What reasonable people are suggesting is a re-thinking of the countries in whom we are willing to put our trust, and CCP-led China is not one of them. Time to scale back our dependency on counties like that. Time to be alert to the threats they pose.

I'm not sure what you are responding to, but the US is an "indirect democracy" or a republic. No one here is advocating for a direct democracy here. The US is allied with many other indirect democracies, often those that use a parliamentary system. You are thinking about those advocating for the abolishment of the senate aka the bicameral system or the system of state delegates that elect the president.

Thank you Dr. Rice for a very sober outlook on the "Day After".
One minor objection: I respectfully and firmly disagree with your endorsement of UNICEF which is a hot bed of communism.

Not comfortable with her comments; sweeping generalizations; overly optimistic; very concerning regarding constitutional rights. I feel more worried about my rights as a healthy middle aged person than I did before listening to this discussion whereas I felt much better after listening to Victor Davis Hanson on this platform last week. His discussion was extremely accurate and bold.

On one hand she says, "authoritarians are going to do what authoritarians do" but then she thinks we should try shaming them. Haven't we been trying that for the past 50 years? People like Kissinger and Rice have told us for decades that if we just treat the China like a responsible power they will start acting like a grown up. Yet the exact opposite happened.
Didn't she learn anything from this? Can't she see that China is NOT responding the way the globalists predicted? Maybe authoritarians DO what authoritarians do and being nice to them isn't going to change that?
The Hoover Institution has been doing great work the past few years. I really hope her taking a leadership of the Hoover Institution doesn't change that. I have great concerns about Ms. Rice's almost blind devotion to the failed globalist experiment.

I was frankly stunned and very disappointed to hear a lot of her answers. Was always a fan but her answers were much too pastel about Communist China, international organizations, and she also seemed to be in favor of bigger government. Very much like the Bushes. It's one thing to be "diplomatic" but it's quite another to be tolerant toward globalization, big government, etc. She came across very soft on trade deals by referring to them as "trade wars". Hmm. Not good IMHO. And she is going to be the Director of the Hoover Institution?

Complicated issues discussed with rationality and absent the hysterical arguing, shouting, and partisanship swill served up by the alphabet networks on a daily basis. Very interesting talk, thank you. Mrs Rice a diplomat as always. Although I find it hard to believe she does not think COVID19 was a part of bioterrorism, due to the parallels she kept making with 9/11. In addition, I felt like she was somewhat promoting or at least redeeming the private sector's ability towards authoritarianism (e.g. Tracking, tracing etc) by saying it's voluntary whilst many are condemning the fear of a "virus" to prevent inclusion and freedom of movement.
Mrs. Rice also mentioned keeping an eye on "bad actors" however govts in history have often utilised bioweapons in order to instigate fear and unfortunately representative people in govt have a tendency not to understand medical jargon and may be under the auspices of pharmaceutical companies that will inevitably profit from pandemics, and I wonder what Mrs rice thinks about that?

I did some slight research about Dr. Tedros (General Director of the WHO). He was born in Ethiopia in a region that is now a country called Eritrea. Eritrea has been provided promise (or may be finished now) a 2 year long China road construction project. Also the same China government has bought Eritrea's gold, copper, zinc mines. Perhaps the road project is for the benefit of China's mining of resources there.

State Gov't overreach. The State governors derive their powers from the "consent of the governed", (We The People), and since their governance has gone rogue, it is our duty to "alter or abolish it". Join citizen groups to sue your state officials, support sincere organizations like Judicial Watch, vote out your governor, email and phone pressure Congressmen, email the White House, make your own protest sign and walk it/drive it through your town on your way to groceries. Pray but also take action!

I have a great deal of respect for Condoleezza Rice but she is vested in globalism(which should not be confused with international trade). Our free handedness in the world at large has been abused, including by those who play "beggar they neighbor" with people of their own countries. Money and goods are resources and just like every resource are limited and need to be used wisely. Frankly I haven't seen much respect for those resources in my lifetime and I am 77.

For the country where the virus originated now is sending material and resources everywhere to be so called helping other countries out but in fact selling to those countries with poor quality products isn’t a real leadership, because you flamed the fire, now you are say that you are helping, if I were those countries you also need to be cautious! America now should prioritise Americans first, if there are still resources available to be able to help tot her countries give a hand. The trump administration is doing this now,

Sectary tice, i thought that to switch the supply chain brakes a long time, if this is the case, you might need to do that step by step as it takes time but if America can do it now, now it’s the time to change, don’t wait until another pandemic come and then say we should have done that long time ago, I meant this is the right direction in the long term that America does not need to rely on certain country for the things they need, that would have great level of flexibility for America!

    Wisdom 6:24
Now what wisdom is, and what her origin, I will declare. And I will not hide from you mysteries of God, but will seek her out from the beginning of her birth, and bring the knowledge of her to light, and will not pass over the truth.
    Saint Matthew 10:35-38
For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
And a man’s enemies shall be they of his household.
And he that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
And he that taketh not up his cross and followeth me is not worthy of me.
