  • This is Part 2 of a two part video as I drove my Ford Model A from Jonesborough, Tennessee to Dearborn, Michigan to attend the 2022 Old Car Festival in Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford Museum.
    Taking backroads, you will see the adventure it took to get there. The roadside breakdowns or what I like to refer to as "roadside seminars" the climbs and drives through the Appalachian Mountain in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky, and finally, the rest of the way to get to the museum.
    Part 1 link • 1100 Mile Road Trip in...
    includes narration as I drove, ( and broke down) as well as music when appropriate. LOL, I know some of you might not like the music but hey, just be kind in your comments. There is never a need to be a keyboard worrier right?!?!
    This video includes footage taken inside the village during the festival. It also includes images I captured as well as additional experiences on the drive back home from Michigan to Tennessee.
    Okay, grab your favorite beverage, and come along for the ride. Enjoy the journey just as I did!

    My 1930 Ford Town Sedan has eyebrow fenders and still has the original interior. It's certainly worn but it still is functional. I have rebuilt the driveline, suspension, and tie rods, installed a modernized Model A motor with oversized intake valves, insert bearings, and a high compression head. I also have a lightened flywheel and V8 clutch. The car comfortably cruises at 50MPH but I've had it up to 60MPH. I have also insulated and installed sound deadener which has made the car enjoyable to be in even at 90 degrees.

    I am surprised by the amount of noise the cars make. The early days of the automobile must have been quite a change for the cities and towns every ware.

    I know you do not do this but some of our English Model A Ford club members have had front wheel bearing failures because of them being too tight . Paul Shinn on You Tube does them too tight in my humble opinion . Over 40 years I have never ever had a failure . One member had to cut the inner race off the axle with an angle grinder . He had adjusted them prior to a club tour . I adjust so I have the barest "rock" at the rim ,I have a box of axle nuts so I choose one to get the best "negative preload " Very best regards and a Very Merry Xmas !!!

      Hey John! Welcome to the page. I don't know how Paul does his. All I know is how I've always done any front wheel bearing assembly going all the way back to the mid 70's. Never had a failure from over tightening a front wheel bearing either. A very Merry Christmas to you too!

    Enjoyed that. I'm across the Pond in the UK and I own and regularly drive a 1932 Morris Minor two-seater. It's powered by an 847cc side-valve engine producing just 19bhp and transmits it through a 3-speed crash gearbox with 'silent third'. It should be capable of about 52mph or so, but it's much more comfortable pootling along at 40-45mph and will do so all day long. Back in June I did a long weekend (5 days) trip of 600 miles. The little (just under 10ft long) car didn't miss a single beat. Can I ask what gas/petrol you use in the A? We've just had E10 (10% ethanol content) introduced in the UK. Many say it ruins old cars. Have you any experience? Thanks.

    • @kensmithgallery4432
      @kensmithgallery4432  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Crash Box and welcome to the channel! Sounds like you have a sweet ride! Where I live, I run 100% gasoline. However, on long trips, it is pretty hard to fine. I run what's available during those times. My car seems to run fine on just about anything.

    • @crashbox7130
      @crashbox7130 2 роки тому +1

      @@kensmithgallery4432 Yeah, I've found that the little Morris runs absolutely fine on E10. I've done quite a few thousand miles on mostly E10 Regular with occasional fill-ups of E5 Super, which is quite a bit more expensive. Strictly speaking we no longer have 100% gas/petrol, but BP forecourts sell a gas/petrol called BP Ultimate which they say has no ethanol. Not every BP forecourt sells it though.
