  • I made the switch to a larger carburetor. It's a Weber 38/38 synchronized 2 barrel DGES with electric choke and oversized jets. I need to rejet it but it was an instant improvement in power. My fuel economy, even with it running super rich is still about 23. The 32/36 was 23 to 26 mpg on its best days.
    I am still having in issue with leaning out at light throttle, almost like a failing accelerator pump, but the pump has a new diaphragm and sprays strong. The dgev did the same thing last month on the way home from ft collins, and only got slightly better when I replaced the accelerator pump diapragm. Perhaps an air leak somewhere?

    This is funny to watch for me only because my step dad had a 1966 of this model, and it was automatic. Also had dual SU carbs. Neat to see one of these again!

    Great video. I have a Nissan 720 pickup with a Weber 38 Outlaw DGAS or DGES. All the things you describe is everything I've experienced as well. Better drivability, better cruising, truck just wants to go - not like a muscle car, but like a gocart. And it does get poorer fuel economy because of either the synchronized throttle opening letting more fuel in, or simply my foot-to-smile reaction every time I go from a stoplight. I came here to see this because I too have noticed it bogs a little in the low-midrange, likely too much fuel being dumped in too soon. Was wondering if you did jet down and to what size. And we are talking main jets here right, not idle jets?

    Keep up these videos, they're great! Do you happen to know anything about the older Amazon "wing" trunk handle availability? I found a dude in Mexico that has one for $200 bucks. Is that fair in your opinion? I've looked around in the U.S. and they're kinda hard to come by. Any tips or info would be appreciated.

    I think the 38/38 works bedst on engines more than 2 litre, for what more you get out of it compare to the fuel consumption, its not worth it.
    If you tune the rest of the components, cam, pistons, etc. its surely pays of with a 38/38, ohtervise the 4 stroke 1,6/2,0 engine runs more smooth with a 32/36

    I just got one of these 38s to go on my 2 litre pinto in my cortina.
    It has a factory 32/36 on it.
    I cant get it to run with the 38. It will start but then will die like its get to much gas or not enuff.
    The 32/36 has a fuel return line and the 38 doesnt. Im wondering if thats the issue? As still running engine fuel pump. Im not carb king so im a lil lost. You can tell the difference when ya rev it while it runs. But ive yaken 38 off and its just sitting there now

    I recently bought a Webber 32/36 single carb conversion for my Volvo 122 off of Craigslist. Do I have to buy a fuel regulator and if so what pressure should I have it on?

    • @jonbertocchi173

      Not really but make sure its tuned well. Or just get the 38dges which is la bomba

      Weber / redline say more than 3psi can cause too much pressure for the float.

  • @LukeBall1

    Are you running a mechanical fuel pump? I have done much reading and it seems that the 38/38 is best with a electric fuel pump such as the Carter 4070 4psi without a pressure regulator. That might solve your stumbling problems. I am still working on installing my new B20. Thanks for the videos.

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  8 років тому

      I did put an electrical pump by this point. it's regulated at 3.5 psi, like the 32/36. I'm dealing with accelerator pump issues now and in 3 days when I pick it up from the shop, I'll know what the issue was

    • @84hachi
      @84hachi 7 років тому +1

      If you upgrade the needle valve to the newest version with the Vinton tip you can run the carb with the mechanical fuel pump without a regulator. The Vinton tip is designed for higher pressures than the standard Weber needle valve.

    • @DavidBello
      @DavidBello  7 років тому

      Thanks, that's good to know. The Mr gasket fpr really helped

    • @84hachi
      @84hachi 7 років тому

      I'm still in the process of tuning my 38 on my 1.6 liter Toyota and decided to do more upgrades. Went to the Vinton needle valve and a brass float. Also a side note: Pierce Manifolds sells an air horn for the 38 that fits under the standard filter. (I went with the 70mm Ramair foam filter to maximize the potential of the airhorn)

      Jacob Blas remove the top cover of the carb body, and they're screwed in at the bottom of the bowls. should be easy to find detailed instructions online
