You bring up a great point! If you’re eventually wanting to have all of the cards, the best bet is to play the long game and get the Party Pack and expansions. While Recipes is awesome, it’s more of a “Greatest Hits” collection, as it’s missing a lot of cards. Take care and hopefully this helps you make a decision!
You could totally use RFD as your starter set! The only thing is that it’s missing the Favor card from the base game, but other than that, it comes loaded with so many other cards.

Great question! I'd say it depends on whether or not you eventually plan on collecting all of the cards. Recipes has become known as the "Greatest Hits" collection: a lot of variety but missing several other cards. For a little more money, you could add Imploding Kittens and Barking Kittens to your already existing collection and get a lot more cards. The main benefit of Recipes is that it comes with "recipe cards" that enable you to play themed games. As well, if you're starting out with nothing, Recipes gives you a lot for $30. That said, seeing as you already have the base game and Streaking Kittens, you could go either way depending on whether or not you're in the process of collecting. Take care and hopefully this helps!
Isn’t it confusing?!😂💀 I still have to occasionally check the rules to remind myself which rule is the current one. Take care and thanks for commenting!
Hi! A question before i go and purchase one.. Does it have identifications on the top corner of the cards like the ones in zombie kittens and exploding minions have (paw & target respectively) to easily sort if we’re playing 2 players, 3 players or 4-5 players? Thanks in advanced!
Hello and thanks for reaching out! That’s a great question. In the bottom-left corner of each card, it states what edition the card belongs to. I believe the literal quote for this one is “RFD Edition”. This ensures that you will always be able to separate them. Take care and thanks for commenting!
That's a great question! This set released BEFORE Zombie Kittens, so it unfortunately doesn't have any of the cards from that set. That said, it DOES include a Zombie Cat card, which acts as one of the many Cat cards (Taco Cat, Hairy Potato Cat, etc). Take care and thanks for commenting!
Great question! The best way to look at the set is to view it as a “best hits” collection. It borrows multiple cards from the original set and the various expansion packs, without including all of the cards from each set (for example, this collection is missing the favor card and the curse of the cat butt card). All in all, it’s a really fun set, but with a few cards intentionally removed.
@@gameswithdenverjames oh cool, ok. So would you say to just get the standard version for me and my wife as beginners to play? Am I right in saying favours are the "pairs and 3 of a kind" to take others cards? Is that a vital part of the game?
I’d say the standard set is the best way to go. Recipes is great, but it can also be overwhelming, even for a veteran player, due to the various card types. Plus, if you ever decide to add Recipes to your collection, it’ll make for a great addition, rather than a replacement of the original. As for favor cards, those are the ones where you play the card, and you pick an opposing player to give you a card of THEIR choice. It’s a fun card to use. The two and three-of-a-kinds are the “cat cards” that you collect throughout the game. Taco Cat, Hairy Potato Cat, etc. When combined together, you can steal other people’s cards. I hope you and your wife have a great time with whatever version you choose to pick up!
@@gameswithdenverjames great thank you. I think we will stick with the standard version and perhaps pick up the the streaking kittens expansion to add something
You didn't mention the fact that they changed the Barking Kittens Cards... In the Original, you get to steal half of the other player's hand, but now you explode.
You’re right! At the time of this video I hadn’t realized the cards were updated. I’ve since referenced the change in other videos, like “What Happened with the Barking Kitten Cards?” Take care and thanks for commenting!
This set does NOT have clone cards! As of right now, the only sets that include Clone Cards are Zombie Kittens and Exploding Minions. Thanks for reaching out and take care!
Hello! It depends on whether or not you’re a completionist. It you go with Recipes, you’ll get at least 90% of all the cards ever made, with a handful of others left out. However, if you start with the base game and begin adding expansion packs, you’ll eventually collect all the different cards. Either way, Recipes and the base game are both great. Hopefully this helps!
I have a question that happened to me today, if a player uses an attack and the next one uses the catomic bomb, do the two turns end or does he have to draw a card?
Thanks for reaching out! That’s a great question. The Catomic Bomb would end one of the two turns, at which point you’d still have to play one more turn. In that instance, I try to have a “Draw From The Bottom” card in hand, seeing as it guarantees that I won’t draw an Exploding Kitten on that turn. Hopefully that helps!
That’s the only bummer! In their defense, Zombie Kittens didn’t release until later, but one day I hope that they do a “revised” edition of Recipes that includes cards from every set/expansion. There’s an Amazon link in the description for Recipes if you need it. Take care and happy gaming!
@@gameswithdenverjames My bad I wasn't aware of that (Still new to the series right now I only have the base game but I am hoping to get either Zombie Kittens or Imploding Kittens for Valentine's day)
Both of those are such great options! Imploding Kittens sits in the hall of fame for having one of the deadliest cards in the whole series (that being the Imploding Kitten card itself), while Zombie Kittens introduces a whole new way to play by bringing players back from the dead, a truly awesome twist. Whichever one you might get, they’re both winners!
Thanks for reaching out! And yes they do, but only for the cards that are new to the set, such as the Personal Attack cards and the Zombie Cat cards (the Zombie ones fit into the same category as the Tacocat cards, Hairy Potato Cat cards, etc). I haven’t found that any of the pre-existing cards have any new animations. It’s really a great set and I highly recommend it!
@@gameswithdenverjames Hmm might just get it after I get zombie kittens just for the personal attack cards. Still need to get party edition if the revision still has the slap cards and stuff / I know its the same as the attack cards but come on I need all cards XD

Can anyone answer me please 🙏🏻 I really would like to know that, I have never played exploding kitten before. Should I just buy this edition to get start with? Will it be too confusing? Or should I just buy and play the base game instead?
Thanks for reaching out! I would say that Recipes For Disaster is a great way to go for multiple reasons. First, it gives you a massive array of cards for a fraction of the price. Secondly, the recipe cards included in the game help to keep things from getting too confusing. The only downside is that this set does NOT include every card ever made, so if you’d like to eventually own every type of card, I’d recommend starting with the original base game and adding the expansions from there. Hopefully this helps and thanks for commenting!
@@gameswithdenverjames thanks for replying! I don’t mind if it’s not include every card tho. As long as if this edition is not too confusing and easy for newbie I’ll get this instead! Thanks!
Hello and thanks for reaching out! It allows for up to 5 players to join. That said, if you combined this with either the base game or the party pack, you could host 10+ players!
Thanks for reaching out! Honestly, this edition really is just a combination of all the expansion packs, except for Zombie Kittens, which technically isn’t an expansion anyways. I own all of the expansion packs myself, but I’m a bit of a completionist, so I took the plunge with this one. I’ve referred to Recipes as a “best hits” collection, because while it has many cards from the various expansions, it’s missing a handful of cards from other sets, such as “The Curse of the Cat Butt” card. Personally, I love Recipes for what it is, but it’s not essential to an Exploding Kittens gamer, especially if you have the various expansions. Hopefully this helps!
Great question! It does not. It most notably is missing the Barking Kittens cards, the Curse of the Cat Butt card, and the Tower of Power hat. While not a full collection, the set still contains a massive array of cards. Hopefully this helps!
Thanks for reaching out! You can play this set in multiple ways. For starters, you can take several types of cards of your choosing and mix them together for a game, essentially making your own "recipe". Custom recipe cards are included in this set, as well. The other option is to play a game using all of them. The tricky thing about that is that it'll make for quite a long game, depending on how much time you have set aside to play it. Otherwise, the recipes will be your best bet. Hopefully this helps and take care!
Technically yes! But Recipes contains many of the base game cards. This means that’ll you’ll end up with quite a few duplicate cards if you combine them. Hopefully this helps!
So if i don't have the base game its better to purchase this?i was planning to buy the adult version and then the expansions in the future, but this seems a better purchase... Good video by the way!
That would definitely be my recommendation! You’re getting at least 90% of the whole collection in this set. Some enthusiasts dislike not having the Barking Kittens cards and the Curse of the Cat Butt card included (which is a slight bummer), but overall it’s a steal considering how much comes with it. That said, this released BEFORE Zombie Kittens, so none of the cards from that version are included. Thanks for reaching out! Take care and happy gaming!
@@gameswithdenverjames So barking, the Curse & zombie are the options to expand the game in the future, good to know!i would keep an eye in your Channel for info about these ones :D Thanks for you response and have a good day Denver!
Ughhhh now I don’t know which version to buy. I played Exploding Kittens for the first time, now I love it but the one we played had a lot of expansions, but should I get the original one first and add the expansions later ooorrrr should I get this one and then maybe add more? 😭🤣
Haha I totally understand your frustration! There’s a few ways you can go with it. If you’re a completionist (like me), I’d recommend picking up the original set and then slowly adding the expansions from there. The reason for this is that Recipes is missing a handful of cards from other expansions (Barking Kitten cards, Curse of the Catt Butt card, etc.). Still, Recipes contains at least 90% of all known expansion cards, which is insane considering the reasonable price tag. The reason why I picked up Recipes myself, funny enough, is because it makes it super easy to organize your cards. It has slots for the many types of cards it comes with. Then there’s the Recipe cards themselves, which are really fun to use. Hopefully this helps you out! Take care and thanks for commenting!
@@gameswithdenverjames thank you so much for your answer 💙 I loved the organization thingy too hahahah I have another question and sorry 🤣 And what about buying this version and then adding some of the expansions too?
@@muluavila Absolutely! That's exactly what I've done. I essentially treat Recipes as my base game, and then I incorporate whatever expansion pack that I'd like to play with. Hopefully this will help you make a decision when choosing between the original pack and Recipes!

Oh gosh! That’s definitely not good. Lol I noticed the lack of the Cat Butt card too. I’m curious if they intentionally left it out. The creators of the game have been very vocal about their disdain for making that card. I think they looked at this as their opportunity to get rid of it.
You totally could if you have the other expansion pack! However, for anyone that’s wanting to consolidate their decks by getting rid of their various expansions, they won’t be able to count on the Recipes For Disaster pack having every type of card.

@@gameswithdenverjamesGood to know. Thank you for taking the time to respond!
Can recipes for disaster be combined with the base exploding kittens game?
@@gameswithdenverjames So barking, the Curse & zombie are the options to expand the game in the future, good to know!i would keep an eye in your Channel for info about these ones :D
Thanks for you response and have a good day Denver!
@@gameswithdenverjames Thank you soossoos much 💙
does it come with zombie kittens cards?
It does not! This set was released shortly before Zombie Kittens. Hopefully they will eventually release a set that has those cards. Thanks for reaching out and happy gaming!
@@gameswithdenverjames thanks! i geuss ill get this and zombie kittens then
and now theres a whole website for the recipes
That’s awesome!!
Well made video my dude
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that. Take care and have a great day!
I only got 1 barking kitten and no cat butt lol
Oh gosh! That’s definitely not good. Lol I noticed the lack of the Cat Butt card too. I’m curious if they intentionally left it out. The creators of the game have been very vocal about their disdain for making that card. I think they looked at this as their opportunity to get rid of it.
Couldn’t you just add it in if you have it?
You totally could if you have the other expansion pack! However, for anyone that’s wanting to consolidate their decks by getting rid of their various expansions, they won’t be able to count on the Recipes For Disaster pack having every type of card.
