Unfortunate news of the death of author Akira Toriyama spread today as he died on March 1st, 2024. Dragon Ball has been and will continue to be a major part of my life. To this day, it is my favorite series of all time, no matter the highs or lows. I consider this an incredible manga/anime and it is the entire reason I got into art at all. So many of my life decisions atm was at least partially because of Dragon Ball Z. When I think of anime, cool fights, or nice action animation dbz is the first thing to come to mind. Dragon Ball is a franchise that has achieved success and accomplishments very few other animes ever will/have. You got me into anime, you were my childhood. May you Rest in Peace, the GOAT, Akira Toriyama🙏🏿🙏🏿. You will be missed by millions😢 - Фільми й анімація

A lot of us have grown up with goku and his friends, following us in their adventures, I'm 41 now and when I've learnt that Toriyama sensei passed away, it was Like I've lost a friend, all the new shonen heroes exist thanks to him. Without Dragon ball, Naruto, Bleach, One piece etc... will never be born.
So for giving us a wonderfull childhood, thanks a lot Toriyama sensei, thanks for everything.
And as Goku himself said in the last tome or DBZ "thank you, goodbye"

I can't help but feel the title is a flex on the folks who include GT in their tributes to Akira Toriyama since he wasn't directly involved in the series.
Oh lol, the title is mostly because of my old video😭 tbh I would've included movies and gt if I could've. However just having his works was fine with me.

I love Dragon Ball but I can't get into Dragon Ball Super. I liked the show but it played too much on nostaligia rather than be its own thing. I feel like they butched the characters and while GT isn't perfect they at least showed a level of respect to the characters and made them fun. What makes Dragon Ball special for me is the love, the adventure, the character development I don't see that love in Dragon Ball Super as I did with the original series.
Even the transformations felt cheap and plot convinced. Blue Kaioken was great but the Ultra Instinct felt cheap. I understand Ultra Instinct kind of makes sense in the sense that Goku been in so many battles his body just fights on autopilot however the way they went about disrespecting the past forms just to uplifts the god forms like cmon bruh...
Lastly Goku was nerfed. Goku was that guy now hes a shell of his past self, I look at past Dragon Ball and the Dragon Ball Super and Goku different. He's not him- its not even nostaliga I genuinely dislike Goku Super. The show doesn't have the love.
I'll call dbs objectively bad all day but I still love the show for its fun and good moments
