@Der Aua - What a horrendous thing to say. Did you even watch the video? The sheriff and co-creator of the program stated at 02:12 that all the funds come from the "inmate funds," which are profits made from the commissaries, so none of "your" tax dollars are being used, you misanthrope. Don't you believe that people are capable of making positive changes in their lives? I do, and it's encouraging to see the men's empathy emerge and their commitmemt to the work they're doing to reform these dogs so they can be adopted to loving homes. The men get unconditional love from the dogs, and they feel validated. That brings about change in their lives, knowing they've succeeded at something, and that leads to continued improvement in their outlook and behaviour.
@@wholeshebang1 The question is not "are they capable of making positive changes in their lives" it is do they deserve to? In the case of most that answer may be yes but for some including some dangerous killers punitive punishment or death sentences seem more just than "rehabilitation", particularly to the victims.
@@kingfisher1638 there's no dangerous killers and the like im these kind of programs. There's safety measures. So it's absolutely great that inmates get this chance.
My last rescue dog, Starsky, came from a program called Mixed Up Mutts, based out of Indiana. It was a program that allowed prisoners to train rescue dogs. Best dog I ever adopted. Came home knowing basic obedience, had no fear of people regardless of what they looked like, what they wore, tone of voice, etc. Honestly, I can't speak highly enough about programs like this. Teaching dogs and humans new tricks and fostering confidence and love for all involved. 🐾
Grandma used to say "An idle mind is the devil's playground." I guess she was right. Giving these men this constructive, life-saving work to do for and with these dogs seems to have helped the men nearly as much as the dogs. I can't think of a more worthwhile cause!
The feels are for reals. Every prison needs to have a program with animals like this. Being around dogs and experiencing unconditional love changes people, and it would do so much good for the people in prison. It helps them grow as people, and it gives these dogs who would either be living on the streets or in a kill facility a home.
This is such a brilliant programme. It's a No-Brainer! It should be introduced into all the prisons - The Dog's get rehabilitated and the inmates learn to be calm, patient and know what unconditional love feels like which must change their out-look on life and become good citizen's when they are re-leased and the Dog's find a forever loving home thank to the heroes who made it possible.
And the prisoners get rehabilitated. I can't imagine the hurt they go through when they have trained, loved, bonded become emotionally attached to the dogs...and then have to give them up knowing they'll never see them again. That breaks my heart.
This is absolutely lovely. I can't imagine how much it must hurt when they get adopted, but this program is clearly turning around the lives of both the dogs and the people.
Yeah it would be heartbreaking! I hope this helps the people in the program stay on the right track after so they can have their own dog to love for so so long the way they deserve
I think learning to properly deal with an emotional loss like that is probably a part of the growth these men experience. It might not be something all of them need to learn but I've certainly known criminals who needed that emotional skill set along with the responsibility and empathy that they'll learn from this program.
redher I am sure it does, but all we have ever done stays with us for ever, so this guys will always know that they can make a life better, and I can bet the 2 dollars in my pocket that these fellas will, when they get out of jail, adopt another dog and save another life, as much as I bet that they do not regret one single second of having those dogs in their lifes. I know it must be heart breaking, but so is loving and letting go, the great thing is that love always changes you, and that is worth it!
Oh yes, I'm sure it's heart wrenching. But at the same time, they know the dog is going to a forever home where they will be loved. So they're really just sending them on their way, along their journey-that they have made happen. Still... Of curse I know they'll be sooo sad! Happy for them-but at the same time, they won't see their dog again. But I guess theynthey'll get a new dog. Who will surely steal his/her heart...
He should not be in jail for possession of cocaine. He needs to be in rehab not jail WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT USING MY TAX DOLLARS FOR THIS BULLSHIT. ugh we need a better system folks also don't hand out life sentences to burglars.
this program, I truly believe, does more to rehab those in jail than a few rounds of forced group therapy... It is amazing. I have felt the love and have been truly lifted up from low points in my own life by the strength and love afforded to me by my canine friends!
I was watching a news show with a warden talking saying he had a prisoner that was a problem with guards and other inmates. Talked to him about traing dogs for disabled people. Told him the rules. No behaviour infractions etc. Your with the dog 24/7. I never had a problem with the inmate after that. He helps other inmates that are in the program with there dogs.
+Paula Allen (Paula's Place) wow thats truely amazing. this should definitely be done everywhere. we need to start trying to make this possible in every prison for sure. this will do so much good for both sides.
This such a wonderful program, really. They say, a person who likes dog is a good person. I think, in this program, this will show that these people being housed inside the prison also have a good side.
This program is definitive proof that dogs of any breed, background and temperament can be rehabilitated and adopted into loving families. Belfast can learn a thing or two from this video, spread the word and help save Lennox!
Wonderful job. I want to thank the inmates for having a wonderful heart ❤️ and help a dog. We can only save one at a time and one is better than none. 💋
This is a wonderful program! Both for the dogs, the inmates, and the future family that adopts the dog. It enriches the lives of the inmates. They have nothing to do in prison and some don’t have their family visit them. Plus, the dogs foster kindness, patience, and caring for someone else. And these dogs would otherwise be stuck in a cage waiting to be adopted. This should be in every prison!
Anyone that doesn't see this a a good program is FUCKING HEARTLESS. who gives a Fuck if your apartment complex doesn't let you have a dog and inmates are living better because this is saving these dogs lives and changing men. this is so impressive! i live near gwinnett county, and for me to randomly find this video on youtube while looking for training tips -- this needs to be put on the news more and the program spread across the state. georgia has a terribly sad amount of abandoned dogs. we rescued two ~6 week old pups who were left in the small wooded area near our house, actually pretty close to the dekalb county jail. i am sharing this as much as i can! i hope there is one in every jail in the next few years!!
+Jose Guzman u should definitely try to do something to make possible. its an amazing idea and that could change a bunch of lives and it could be because of u if try to make possible.
I wanted that one guy to be able to keep Queenie, I don't know why. They just had such a great bond. This is a wonderful program. I get so tired of our prisons being these profit-motivated dumping grounds where people go to be chewed up by the system. They pay for their crimes, but let's rehabilitate them and make them actually mean something in society! This program can give them that. It won't just save more dogs, it might just save some humans too.
Petey is so cute!!! He looks like wishbone the Star dog!!! I bet he did get adopted fast!❤ and gosh playboy the pittie is absolutely adorable ❤ I love a big squishy pittie!!!
I honestly think these programs should be implemented in jails across the whole world. So many people in jail aren't really bad people, just people who have suffered and turned to a life of crime because they had nothing else. By teaching these dogs to behave, they are also learning skills, patience, and discipline to gain control of their own lives. At the same time, spending days with creatures that love you unconditionally, who don't judge you, don't care about your past, want nothing from you but food and love, they regain their self-esteem and realize their lives are just as worthy as these dogs'. Also, the pride that comes from that sense of accomplishment when you suceed at something, like getting these pups to do tricks.
I love the tone of voice that these men use when talking about their dogs. They are glowing! Dogs love us unconditionally. We find our humanity when we are around other animals 🐾🧡

This should be in EVERY JAIL AND PRISON! Help the dogs get a second chance and the prisoners gain a sense of meaning and responsibility. This is awesome for both! Plus a family gets a new fur friend.
It isn't obvious to you that they really don't care about the money? They truly love the experience. Stop telling yourself stories. This is beautiful. Hands down.
I wish they could somehow keep the dogs. They raise them, train them and spend most of their time taking care of them and then they have to let them go, it must be so painful.
Where I live, there is 1 apartment that lets you have pets. It's $300 more than every other apartment in the area for the whole apartment, which is 5x what you have if you have roommates. Of course, the one guy is in for cocaine, which is ridiculous. My 'happy world' would be 'criminals' are actual dangerous people and we really like death row, and druggies get rehab (or we just let life go on, like tobacco)--and dogs were more affordable. :D
Thanks to this video we are moving forward to help Gwinnett County jail with their wishlist via Amazon! We lucked into a Pit Bull this year and he IS an amazing addition to our pack 5 strong! Thanks to Sheriff Conway and the inmates making these lovies adoptable!

At the end of the day, we all want to love & to be loved. A beautiful video. Made me cry actually. Seeing love exchanged between them is powerful. I want dogs euthanasia to end. This is the perfect solution.
seems like a win/win situation, these guys learn empathy and how to care for another living thing, inmates should be able to keep and adopt unwanted animals.
What a wonderful story all round. The inmates are fantastic with the dogs. I hope that the community also accepts these men when they get out of prison. I'm sure many of them could become trainers and do other animal related jobs.
The Lord gave us a very special companions in animals, I think it would be wonderful for all correctional facilities should have these programs, and the facilities that already have these programs, it should be expanded!
Can I like this a hundred times? As an adult, I've rescued ten dogs, all young adults, adults, and seniors. A few were neglected, a few were abused, and my latest dog, a wolfhound mix, was almost impossible to train the first year. But all of my dogs were memorable, deeply loved. I'm not a dog trainer, but a builder and a weekend hiker and canoeist. My dogs are almost always on the job with me. The training session is 24/7. All were trained to stay close by, hke off lead, and be gentle with strangers and unknown dogs. Many of the dogs wind up in shelters because they weren't properly trained, because their owners didn't know how to train them. If you have a dog that is getting into trouble, spend some time with it. Start with the basics, sit and stay, and move up. Work a bit every day, and exercise the dogs every day. Be consistent, never hit, and only raise your voice if the dog is in actual danger. I've read about these jail dog rescue programs before. Seems like they save the trainers, the dogs, the future owners, and the general public who will come into contact with well trained dogs.
This type of program saved a Belgian malinois who was self mutilating. She had been in a shelter for months locked up 23 hours a day. Unsurprisingly she was stressed, the dog was sent to one of these programmes. After treatment for an ear infection, lice , nails clipped and a thorough bath/groom; she was named Jesse and trained as k9 drug detection dog. She went down to Utah and now works with their department of corrections.
This is a win win. Inmates rescuing dogs, dogs rescuing inmates. I believe there's a connection between a dog and a person. This program gives inmates a purpose and a human touch which they don't usually have in jail. Everyone needs a connection to something that loves them. Heartbreaking when the dogs graduate from the program and the inmates have to say goodbye.
smartest thing ever.. Utilizing prisoners and maybe instilling a better future for them as well as the dogs!!!
Yea the majority become dog trainers
I would gladly have my tax dollars go to funding more programs like this.
I'd gladly have my tax dollars to put dangerous killers out of their misery and give the families of the victims peace.

All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
There's nothing you can know that isn't known
Nothing you can see that isn't shown
There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be
It's easy
All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
All you need is love (all together now)
All you need is love (everybody)
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need.... "
At the end of the day, we all want to love & to be loved. A beautiful video. Made me cry actually. Seeing love exchanged between them is powerful. I want dogs euthanasia to end. This is the perfect solution.
seems like a win/win situation, these guys learn empathy and how to care for another living thing, inmates should be able to keep and adopt unwanted animals.
great job !!man
What a wonderful story all round. The inmates are fantastic with the dogs. I hope that the community also accepts these men when they get out of prison. I'm sure many of them could become trainers and do other animal related jobs.
Great program ! Should be in every prison
Worldwide not just American dogs only. All kinds of animals as well. I’m not fucking government at all. I’m corporations.❤❤
Wow 7:27 I've always wanted to teach my dog how to do that! I was smiling watching this whole video.
I didn't know Will Smith was in jail!
This is so beautiful :(
The Lord gave us a very special companions in animals, I think it would be wonderful for all correctional facilities should have these programs, and the facilities that already have these programs, it should be expanded!
Looks like a Jack Russel Terrier mix.
Yo become a k 9 police officers dogs
Or military dogs or
Air Force dogs
Navy dogs and
Marines dogs
This is a win win. Inmates rescuing dogs, dogs rescuing inmates. I believe there's a connection between a dog and a person. This program gives inmates a purpose and a human touch which they don't usually have in jail. Everyone needs a connection to something that loves them. Heartbreaking when the dogs graduate from the program and the inmates have to say goodbye.
