    Utility of cycling ?
Respected sir, you explained that cycle determines end of inspiration and beginning of expiration. But isn't that already set by adjusting Ti ?
What is the utility of setting a cycling variable if I have already set a Ti... expiration being a passive process would automatically begin after end of Ti right ?

      Hi Arjun.
The variable that determines change from inspiration to expiration is called Cycle. It can be time cycled or flow cycled.
The set Ti as you suggest is the time cycle which is appropriate patient who is completely or partially dependent on ventilator (CMV or SIMV mode).
However, in spontaneously breathing patient who is only on Pressure Support, Ti is better adjusted by the patient himself and setting a mandatory Ti may result in asynchrony. So in such cases flow cycle is preferred.
      Hope this answers your query.
